I'm holding out hope that Hunter didn't send all the interview requests at once and maybe those of us who haven't heard anything still have a shot.

i interviewed with Brown earlier this week, and i got an acceptance call today (I’m still very much in shock)

this thread was super helpful in my prep — so i thought the data might be helpful. Happy to answer any questions you might have

don't want to burst any bubbles, but when i interviewed with hunter last year they sent all their requests out on the same day ;( i didn't get one this year so i'm in the same boat as you! good luck!

oh my god, you guys. ut austin mistakenly sent me a rejection email tonight. i responded asking for clarification on whether this meant i'd been removed from their waitlist, and their coordinator sent me two apology emails stressing that this had been an error and that he was sorry for causing me unneeded stress. well, now i feel like ut austin and i are even after i messed up my interview time last month. 🫠

Finally caved and returned to the GradCafe forums after swearing I wouldn't this year, so, hi all 😅

First off, congratulations to those accepted! And wishing patience to those also in the waiting trenches right now.

Has anyone heard from Brooklyn? I'm not seeing anything on Draft... Historically they've sent out acceptances at the end of February, so I'm curious about the silence / convinced I'm missing something.

I haven't heard anything yet either, I'm wondering if they're late this year, if federal budget issues are affecting them, or if it's all one of those soft rejections...wishing you the best. I hate this uncertainty too! We're in it together lol

Hi all! Anyone heard anything from UCSD yet? People I've spoken to have not yet received any interview requests. Wondering if they're late this year, or if I have gotten one of those dreaded "soft" rejections.

I have not heard anything from UCSD, nor have I heard of anyone hearing anything.

I did hear from USC that they haven't made any decisions, and they only promised to make first-round decisions by April 1st. So if the California schools are at all aligned, we may not hear from UCSD for a bit.

I caved and emailed UCSD the other day and haven’t gotten a response. I’m assuming a soft rejection, but am also wondering if federal funding cuts have anything to do with a potential delay.

Curious if you've heard anything back from them now that the weekend is over? Also, I have hope for you! (I also think federal cuts might have something to do with all of this...or at least I wouldn't be surprised)

Hi, for people who interviewed with Yale last weekend, have you heard back? Anne said she's hoping to get back early this week but I haven't heard anything and the anxiety has crept in.

Here's what helped me when I prepped for some interviews this year and last year:

 

"Why this school" and "why playwriting" should be the two biggest things you focus on. Your essay and writing does the heavy lifting, schools just now what to put a face to the name, see how you hold yourself and how you talk about yourself and your writing. You don't have to justify your entire existence as a playwright in only 10-15 minutes, but focusing on the main bullet points about how/why you found yourself trying to make a career in theatre, and why you want NYU to help you get to that next stage in your development.

 

I would also focus on the questions "what do you have to work on in your writing" or some variation of "what do you struggle with" is not only commonly asked to students interviewing into a writing program, but also most job interviews on the planet. I think people like people who are self-aware and self-motivated to get better in areas they already know about.

 

And then, as always, make sure you have questions for them! Even if it is something as simple as "what's the student to teacher ratio", any questions you have about the structure of their program goes along way in showing to them that you are thoughtful and meticulous when planning your future.

 

Break a leg with NYU! Here's hoping you hear positive news from them, and quickly!
