alizarin Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 My list, all Painting/Drawing except SAIC since they encourage multiple submissions: BU: ? FSU: ? Hunter: ? LSU: ? PAFA: ? SAIC - Painting: ? SAIC - Sculpture: Rejected (rec'd letter 16 Feb) SAIC - Fiber & Materials: Rejected (rec'd letter approx 11 Feb) UGA: ? I hope I haven't missed any mail... my mailbox is shared between 7+ people and it's been known to disappear before. I plan on waiting until I just can't wait anymore (probably around the 26th) and then calling programs to see what their timelines are! I worry about my mail being lost too, dropped off at the wrong house, or stuck somewhere, etc..
afrost Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 @ aspmongo: I heard from UGA monday for photo, they called and told me I was accepted.
RKSim Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 update: I got an email from UC Davis informing me that the Statement of Intent to Register form is now available. I clicked on the link and got another email that reads: "Thank you for starting the official online UC Davis Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) for the graduate program in Art-MFA. To access your SIR in the future, log in at:[] We are hopeful that you will choose UC Davis for your graduate academic experience and look forward to you joining the UC Davis community." I haven't received my official acceptance letter yet (available tomorrow AM), but I assume this means I'm in.
aspmongo Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 @ aspmongo: I heard from UGA monday for photo, they called and told me I was accepted. Thanks for letting me know. I'll check my phone to see if I have any missed calls/voicemail, and hope that if not perhaps painting is taking a little longer! I did figure they should be letting us know soon since their application was the earliest due of all of them for me (Jan 7).
swartzturfle Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 I thought I'd chime in with my list. I applied to the painting programs and have heard back from three programs so far. UNC-Greensboro: Interview UNC-Chapel Hill: rejected Tyler: rejected No word yet from... VCU Cornell Columbia Hunter Best luck to everyone.
Jestem Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 I applied for MFA in Graphic Design/Visual Communications. Didn't see many ppl applying to this field of study here. I come from a non art/design background. Graduated form business school and worked briefly in advertising/marketing but still couldn't adjust myself to the world where $$$ matters more than anything (though we often pretend otherwise). Interviews Yale (3/29) <= having hard time registering the idea of being in the final for several days. no email sent. I logged on my page and it's there. I applied for 3yr program but they bumped me up to 2yr without my consent and knowing. Calarts (3/4) <= received email notification on 2/13, Chinese New Year's Eve. I don't think I'll be able to make it to Calarts in time for the event. It's New Year's holidays now and visa office won't open until next monday. Plus, where should I live between the interviews? They're alomost a month apart! For now, I think I'll do a skype interview with Calarts and fly in for an in-person interview for Yale. It sounds crazy, flying in from Asia for just an interview, I know. The admissions office lady says they totally understand if I can't be there, and that they do skype interview with international applicants every year and it works very well. I wanna go because it's Yale. I never dreamed of the possibility of being associated with the name my entire life! What do you guys think? Stay or fly? Pending SAIC RISD CCA Pratt Boston UIC NYU ITP Has anyone heard from graphic design/visual communications department of these schools yet? English isn't my first language, I may sound kinda awkward in it, pardon me.
grad_wannabe Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Pending SAIC RISD CCA Pratt Boston UIC NYU ITP Has anyone heard from graphic design/visual communications department of these schools yet? English isn't my first language, I may sound kinda awkward in it, pardon me. I applied to NYU ITP also - haven't heard anything. Let us know when you hear! Congrats on your upcoming interviews.
alizarin Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 I haven't heard anything from SAIC either! I am getting worried, because I know people are getting interviews. Wonder is this is a good or bad sign? Hey Crayons, I finally got my rejection letter from SAIC (painting) today. So there goes that. I wonder what was up with the delay though, many applicants got theirs last week.
Spaced Out Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Hey Crayons, I finally got my rejection letter from SAIC (painting) today. So there goes that. I wonder what was up with the delay though, many applicants got theirs last week. Sorry to hear that. I still havent heard a thing from the Painting Program, I dont know what to think. I feel like I would know by now if I got in
james Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 @ RKSim: Congrats on UC Davis! Been reading your posts for months and silently rooting for you. Your work is intimidating-ly strong. Way to go! @ littlenova: Rooting for you also, what day are you interviewing @ MICA? Think Im going on Thursday March 4th, but havent gotten confirmation yet. (Hoffberger, that is, realize your photo)
Crayons574 Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Hey Crayons, I finally got my rejection letter from SAIC (painting) today. So there goes that. I wonder what was up with the delay though, many applicants got theirs last week. @alizarin thanks for letting me know. I just posted in the other one that I received my SAIC rejection letter today as well. Yeah, I wonder why ours took so long. Maybe they sent them out in spurts. Mine was dated 2/8. Well, that door is closed...
Crayons574 Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 (edited) Anyone else heard or not heard from MICA or CCA yet? I haven't heard a peep. Edited February 19, 2010 by Crayons574
littlenova Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 (edited) Go RKSlim! You are having a great week... @James: Thanks, man! I am interviewing on Monday over Skype for the Summer MFA. I already met with faculty at the Open House. I live about 45 minutes away. But, my interviewer teaches at MICA & SAIC...So...she will be doing Skype interviews from Chicago. The other program for Photo I am suppose to schedule after this meeting for sometime in March. That one will be in person. We already talked for a while about my work and she asked me alot about where I see my work going. She said to think about it over the weekend and bring my thoughts to the interview on Mon. Good luck to you! If you want, we can chat after mine on Tuesday if you wanna compare notes...but, I think it's questions relating specifically to your body of work. michaelwebster Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Anyone else heard or not heard from MICA or CCA yet? I haven't heard a peep. I just had my interview with CCA, but for social practice. Since they only accept 5 I bet they are ahead of the other areas.
Guest Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 New to the group - here's my list: SAIC - Sculpture: rejected 2/8 UT Austin: rejected 2/16 Pending: Alfred CCA Cranbrook LSU RISD SAIC - Ceramics U Washington Anyone else out there in ceramics?
Betty Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 I get the impression that MICA Graphic Design isn't doing interviews, they are just sending out notices before April 1st. Anyone else have any news on MICA Graphic Design? The suspense is killing me. I have other options, but they are my first choice.
RKSim Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 (edited) Thanks Guys! I got my official acceptance from UC Davis this morning. I'm really excited that I haven't had to do any interviews yet, as we all know how painful they can be. I am still fretting one in particular; I applied for a fellowship in Social Entrepreneurship at NYU that requires in-person interviews if accepted as a finalist. Also, I'm still waiting to hear from U Washington, CU Boulder, NYU, and MIT. Good luck everyone! Edited February 19, 2010 by RKSim
Jestem Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 @Betty / A guy from MICA Mount Royal told me they didn't conduct interviews until recent years. So I guess things could be different at Graphic design department too. You never know! The waiting's killing me too. Good luck! @RKSim / A BIG congrats! It's still very early for MFA admissions decisions to be made. You must be VERY impressive!
NWT1983 Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 I just heard back from Tyler, can anyone give any thoughts on the program?
MichelleRaminPaints Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Got an email from SFAI today for a phone interview... hooray! My first response from any school... Still waiting on: SAIC (although I have a feeling at this point it's a rejection since everyone who's received anything this week so far has been rejected) RISD Columbia UCLA PNCA University of Washington phew! so much waiting!!!
sophiab Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 I'm applying to MFA Interdisciplinary/New Media. My background is not in art, so I really have no sense at all where I will get in. So far: CCA - interview SFAI - interview RISD Berkeley UCLA UCSD Calarts CMU Cranbrook UCSC San Jose State I haven't heard from Calarts yet...probably a bad sign...
grad_wannabe Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Also, I'm still waiting to hear from U Washington, CU Boulder, NYU, and MIT. Good luck everyone! What program did you apply to at MIT? Congrats on your acceptance to Davis!!
RKSim Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 What program did you apply to at MIT? Congrats on your acceptance to Davis!! I applied to the SMVisS program. http://architecture.mit.edu/masters-smviss.html This one is right up my alley and I'm really crossing my fingers for it, and some heavy-duty funding as well. Tuition + living expenses as a grad student at MIT are around $68k a year.

littlenova Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 @lapzirdonocomad: Why did you drop out of MICA if you don't mind me asking?
