  1. Thanks for the advice everyone. The person I have in mind would enjoy sitting in on a class and meeting professors. He has an MA in English, but went on to a JD. He is still an avid reader/ studier of English, and often reads the texts I am reading for my classes and the notes I take in class. But I do agree that some of this I will have to do alone, so I will just have to tell him that. I will also ask the program though if he can attend larger events. Thanks everyone!
  2. Hey everyone, I have a random question about attending visiting days at schools. Is it ok to bring a spouse/ partner/ friend/ family member, or someone like that? Or is it better to just go alone? I understand that there are some things this individual would not be able to participate in, like individual meetings with POIs. But what about receptions? Sitting in on a class?
  3. Not at all. Location isn't nearly that important to me, and for the most part, I don't think it should be. Of course, everyone has their reasons and specific circumstances, but I think it is more important to go to the right program over the right location. I am not saying that the right program can't also be the right location. For Keely, UCLA could be the right school for him/her. I am more interested in funding, fit, and to some extent rank. I am MOST concerned about where I will be able to produce the best work possible.
  4. Thanks, I will try that! I REALLY appreciate the help!!!
  5. Looking at Fall 2013, there are like 4 million I want to take. No idea how I'd narrow it down...
  6. But... the course listing doesn't say when the classes are held! That seems strange.
  7. Thanks! I know I found it before somewhere. I appreciate it!
  8. Does anyone know if the list of courses for this semester (Spring 2013) is available anywhere? I know I saw it somewhere before, but now I am only seeing the courses for this upcoming fall. I am wondering because I want to sit in on a seminar when I visit.
  9. I would have to agree with kcald. I wouldn't outright tell them that: it actually might sound desperate. Instead, I'd emphasize the resources you'd take advantage of, what you might bring to the campus, etc.
  10. Well you know what they say, Ohio is for lovers! Haha, congrats on your decision.
  11. Even if you want to study video games, make sure when you apply that you seriously emphasize your language knowledge (Persian and Arabic - it doesn't matter if you can only read the latter). They are hot languages right now and will only help you quite a bit.

  13. I'm in at two places, and I spelled an author's name wrong.
  14. Also, check out U. Southern California's comp lit. The school in general is big in media and video games (a professor there now is "translating" Walden into a videogame). They offer a track in comparative media and culture.
  15. Guys, this is what happens at Ohio State!
  16. Well the last few days on here were certainly exciting! Here's to many more acceptances in the near future!
  17. So you are fairly certain you'll accept their offer over Indiana or Wisconsin?

  19. CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW that's amazing!!
  20. Thanks! I am DEFINITELY planning on attending the admitted students day. Are you planning on going?
  21. Thanks! I knew that rant I went on in my SOP about how Buckeye football was robbed of the title this year would get me in!!! Edited for grammar.
  22. Thanks!!! I was very surprised to get the call tonight. This morning I was told via e-mail it'd be early next week. There still might be more notifications to go out...
