Thanks for all the info! I spoke to Dr. Brayman Hackel on the phone today. She seems incredibly nice! I also booked my flight for the open house! Can't wait to be on the west coast for my first time ever!

Haha I am just joking. I do have some other great offers so I will not be devastated if ultimately rejected from Irvine. Please, do what is best for you. -

I've heard HORROR stories about traffic in southern California. Is that something I should be prepared for? Or is Riverside sort of outside the area where traffic gets bad?

0% Confidence of Acceptance

You have an AMAZING acceptance, and a GREAT wait list. This process is so quirky. I know someone who doesn't post here who has gotten about 10 rejections, and only one acceptance. Her one acceptance: UPenn. You just never know. By getting in to Penn State and a wait list at Michigan (both schools from which I am assuming rejection) you have proven that you are VERY worthy of PhD study. -
I WILL be attending the open house! I am very excited. I've never been to the west coast before. One thing that does make me nervous (and is swaying me a little from UCR) is the cost of living in CA. I've heard that Riverside is cheaper than many areas in CA though. Is that true?

Ohh I am sorry. I read your post too quickly. Congrats on your one acceptance though! And good luck on Kentucky! -

I did not apply to Kentucky, but I love your username. What happened to Don'tHate? But more importantly, CONGRATS ON KENTUCKY! -

I really want to make sure I sit in on a seminar at my prospective schools, so I am getting there Wednesday night, attending a seminar on Thursday, and probably leaving on Saturday. I am not quite ready to look for apartments yes, because I have no idea what I'd do if my wait list at Irvine converts... -

I don't know what their funding situation is like (and it can't be cheap to live in DC), but I feel like I'm always meeting people at great PhD programs who did their MA at Georgetown. ETA: I meant to conclude that with a congrats to those accepted there! -

Just booked my travel plans for the visiting day. Is anyone going the day before so that they can attend a seminar? -
The rejection posted is NOT mine, but I e-mailed UF this morning to ask about my status. The reply was something like "I will send out notices next week. Watch your e-mail." So... doesn't tell me much, but I am probably going to assume rejection from a reply like that, since acceptances there tend to be phoned. Not sure if that helps you out or not!

YES! CONGRATS!!!! -
For anyone interested in Irvine: I was told that top candidates have been accepted and that some candidates who did not make a cut were rejected. If you haven't heard yet, you are in a middle ground. There will be two wait lists: a "primary" and a "secondary." There will be more rejections as well. This should all be happening "this week or next." I am not sure if any more acceptances will go out though, or merely wait lists. So if you are waiting on Irvine - there's still a glimmer of hope!
