  1. I also have a really nice Mac desktop that I was hoping to use in general, but even the lab software I needed for anatomy used windows. Had to bite the bullet last summer. One of my profs advised me to go windows/PC. That doesn't preclude Mac, if you really want to go that route, but I am not sure if a tablet could run programs unless they are already in the App Store.:-/
  2. Honestly, I am a Mac fan.... But I would suggest getting a windows computer if you can, because according to the profs I have right now, some of the software you will use and may install uses the windows platform. I bought a refurbished HP laptop from IBM-Lenovo for under $300 early last summer and it has done really great. I opted for a heavier computer, something more higher durability ratings, since I anticipate having to carry it at least every other day. Technically you could install windows on a Mac, but honestly why would you do that to a Mac, that was my thought. Plus, for the price, if you are going to use windows anyway, get a sleek Vaio or something similar if you want the sleekness of the Mac air.
  3. T minus 11 days until expected notifications start coming in!

  4. Congrats to all the MGH folks! Big day for all of you!
  5. Looks like this will be a big week for MGH folks! I have to say it... Every time I see someone's signature and they have had the benefit of multiple acceptances already, I look to see if they applied the same places I did. I have a small jump for joy when I don't see my remaining schools on their list... Because somehow I have convinced myself that I still have a chance if the aren't many applicants to the places in my list in TGC. Friday should be a big day for UNCG and Western Carolina... Another week out for ECU and App State and probably USC... I will say, I have felt the LEAST stressed today than I have the past few weeks. TGC therapy must be working. ;-D
  6. I think if you email Ina Diana and ask about your status, she'll call the people who are entering them into the computer and get it expedited. At this point, I would assume wait-list or rejection. Mine was rejection, and about 3 hours after i emailed her, my status was made available online.
  7. I dnt know about "most," but that's the estimate on when the rest of my schools will send notifications. Several on here have already heard.
  8. I"m here!! Trying to keep my mind off waiting. There is a slim chance I *might* hear by next Friday, but definitely not holding my breath. March 15th can NOT get here fast enough! These next two weeks will be busy for all of us. Praying for everyone to hear some news that helps send them on their way to grad school!
  9. What's with the down-vote on obsidian? Grammar aside, I can't find anything wrong.
  10. I emailed Dr. Hall at UNCG to find out about expected results, and she answered (rather quickly, I was impressed) - between March 8th and April 15th. A very big window. I figure they are giving the first acceptances up to the 15th of April to decide, then going to the wait-list. Maybe we'll know by this coming FRIDAY! Wouldn't that be nice!! :-) I don't have all of the pre-reqs (in progress now, 4 complete, 4 to be done during summer) but I indicated that I wanted to complete them over the summer prior to, or concurrent with enrollment, to try to finish in the 2-year window or 2.5 year window if at all possible. Who knows... I'm out-of-field, so anything is possible.
  11. If I don't get an offer this year, I plan to take a GRE class... let's face it, it has been been since 2007 that I did any academic writing or math... teaching K-12 and K-5 school during those 6 years hasn't helped my skills, to say the least! If I can't take a GRE class in person, I plan to complete it online and then take the GRE in the fall. Praying I get in somewhere this time, so I can do my GRE class and re-take for when I apply for the PhD program. So, if the GRE is a weakness, look for GRE pre-courses or books that will help jump up your score. I am also going to keep taking classes, interact with the professor, etc., so that I can get good LORs - in the end, those can make the biggest difference. I felt pretty happy with my SOP this go-round, but I have thought of things I can say next time I apply. I feel like I got good letter this time, but since it will have been a year since I had those same prof's for another round of applications, I will need new (and more current) references. Big thing around the forums is GPA. Just make sure you do everything you can to keep it as high as possible. Numbers don't necessarily make you get in, but they can keep you from getting past the initial cuts that admissions committees make.
  12. Sending an email now! I am anticipating needing to take it again for re-applying.
  13. I'm taking a quick break from my studies at the moment ... noticed a few more new folks posting! Welcome!! Tried to check your signatures, etc - is there anyone else who applied to UNC Greensboro on here? I think I've found others who have applied everywhere else I did, but not UNCG. Come on out and say hi!
  14. I hear ya! I'm experiencing something similar. I go through a short mild cycle of depression, then I put myself back together, and it repeats every couple of hours. It's hard to see other people getting acceptances from schools that apparently notify a lot sooner than where I've applied. It makes me think I should have applied more places, including places that historically notify a lot sooner, just so I would know that I at least have one option for grad school. Ah well, it will happen soon enough... hopefully sooner than 13 days from now!
  15. Where do you really want to go? If you had offers from all three, where would you choose? I would contact the US school that is your top preference to see how soon decisions will be issued. If you would choose the London school over the others even if accepted, then it is okay to go ahead with that opportunity, as long as you know 100% that you would say no to two other potential acceptances.
  16. I'm such a goof that I decided to put it in my signature. I get on TGC just about every day anyway, so I'll be updating as I wait ... mindless stuff like that helps take the load off, and remind me that I still have time to wait. Anyone up to anything good this weekend? I'll be studying / doing audiology on Saturday (pretty much all day), and going to celebrate my new niece's dedication service at church on Sunday. Looking forward to it! Warned my brother ahead of time that I don't really want to answer a bunch of grad school questions from the family - 1, because the event is about my niece and her parents, and 2, because I am so anxious about the whole thing, as are many of you. We'll get there, one step at a time, one day at time... counting it down!!
  17. Aw, at this point I'd LOVE to have gotten wait-listed, since there aren't any acceptance notices sitting in the mail box. Thankfully, from what I've been told by grad admissions secretaries, they do go to the wait-list because like most of us - people generally apply to multiple places. Now for you, it's just a matter of how high up on the waitlist you are! Stay positive! Maybe we'll be at WCU or App State this Fall, who knows!!! Keeping you in my prayers for people wanting to hear good news!!
  18. That is NUTS! At least the acceptance came through. Congrats!
  19. I am miserable in my current job, and I'm trying to head into a new career. Every day that I don't get an acceptance (or even worse, a wait-list or rejection), I keep stressing out that I'm going to have to stay miserable in my job until I find another job in this economy. I am driving myself nuts, unfortunately. And mildly depressed. My husband acts like he understands, but he doesn't. Glad I can find other people going through the same thing with me on TGC... My remaining apps aren't expected to notify until probably March 15-April 15, so I have quite a bit more waiting to do.
  20. Anyone else on the T-minus 14 days countdown? Gonna have to keep myself busy (and positive) in the meantime!!!
  21. We don't really have apartment finders down here... Your best bet is to visit each condo or apartment you are interested in. Apartment guide, rent.com, and other rental websites will be helpful. What town are you going to?
  22. The FAFSA also can make you eligible for need-based scholarships.
  23. Even if you are paying out of pocket, the FAFSA is the only way to get traditional grad school loans, but if you want to do private loans, you can. The traditional loans usually have lower interest rates, right now i think it's 6.8%. Both are deferred repayment until six months after you graduate, but you can always make some payments while you are in school, if you are capable of doing so. Private loans are around 9.75%.
  24. My husband and I decided that if I don't get in anywhere, we are expanding our geographical search next time. It's only two years for school anyway, and after all I have learned in the forums this year... We probably should have applied in more nearby states, too. Waiting and praying for all of you!
