Princeton applicants: I just called the department's admissions person and was told that the faculty are still reviewing applications for the social psych program. Interview invitations won't be extended before mid-February.

That. Stanford's (and Princeton's) no-skip policy drove me crazy. Harvard and UCLA had apps where you can't copy-paste text for most browsers on a Mac (Safari and Chrome did not work, I had to download Firefox to make it work). And UMass also only sent out LOR requests after submitting my full application. How annoying.

One of my POIs emailed me today that he was "really impressed" with my record (he referred to specifics) and that he wants to admit me to the program. While this is great news, he said he wants to check my "level of interest" before the department makes any official decisions. So this is where things get tricky. The school would be a great fit but I also have a few other applications pending that are even more attractive. Since the apps are going well so far (interview invitations from Ivies etc.) I don't want to commit myself now. What should I reply? I was thinking to be honest and tell him that I am really interested but that I'm still waiting for the outcomes of other apps before I can make a decision. The thing is, I really like his work and would love to collaborate with him either way, so I don't want to burn any bridges. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Yeah but last year a friend of mine was informally contacted by POI before SPSP to arrange a meeting at the conference. Well, let's see what happens...

I talked to one of my POIs yesterday and he said they admit 75-85% of the interviewees (in this particular department).

I just called NYU and learned that the social area has not yet invited people. Might be interesting to some of us.

Hi all, I also applied to UCLA. I had a Skype interview with my PoI a couple of weeks ago, and we are in touch via email. I'm based in the UK and will visit UCLA only in early February, which they say is no problem. As I'm not American, my admission is contingent on external funding (for which I have an application pending). If I get it, UCLA will most likely admit me -- but that doesn't really help me right now
