  1. That's been my problem. One of the programs I applied to has only one person doing research that I'm suited for, and she is taking on one new grad student. The program normally receives over 1,000 applications each year. So when one of my friends just said, "I already know you're getting in, so congratulations!" I just sighed and reined in the crazy. I've given up trying to explain.
  2. I don't think it's unreasonable to call and politely ask when they will be sending out invites. People do have jobs and school to plan around - not to mention making transportation plans - so it's not crazy to want to have a basic timeline in mind. Just try to keep the desperation out of your voice.
  3. Oh dear. I was reading that last night, and couldn't stop laughing to save my life.
  4. Makes me think of the PhD comics, which I've been following for a long time now. Those are the best.
  5. Well, I more mean that they seem to think that as long as you have good grades and good LORs, you'll get in everywhere you apply - more like undergrad. But no, I agree that we only have a somewhat better idea!
  6. Sounds very familiar! ... Except I'm not married. Or even engaged. And test tube babies just aren't in my field of study! And DataTape, that's all I keep hearing. I don't have the heart to tell them that I think I've already been rejected from one of my programs. People (my mother included) really don't seem to understand how grad school works... especially the admissions part.
  7. I'm wondering the same thing. Does anyone know? Mine haven't changed, even though the deadline has passed.
  8. You should invent that and market it. It can pay for your grad school expenses. Or it can be your thesis!
  9. I just discovered that in one of my SOPs, I accidentally changed font size halfway through. That's it, no more reviewing already-submitted materials for me.
  10. I haven't seen anyone else applying to human factors programs. Feeling a bit lonesome here. Anyone else? I'm jealous of the clinical people who are already starting to hear things back.
  11. Everyone is talking about their mentor being disappointed in them if they don't get in... am I the only one going through this process without a faculty mentor? I feel like an academic orphan!
  12. I'm so sorry, PhDreams. I am sure that when you get in, it will be a fitting tribute to someone who helped you so much.
  13. Really, AugustusP? Half of my schools still haven't hit their deadlines, and I know of several others that don't have their deadlines until January 15 or February 1.
  14. Last night, I dreamed that a professor from my top choice emailed me and said that "the town decided to stop funding the program," but they thought they'd be able to continue at least through next year, so he hoped I'd apply anyway...
  15. I don't think they're fake interview invites, Bpsydme. The two on the results section say that they were invited to phone interview. DrClinPsyAdvice is probably referring to the official Interview Day that UNC holds.
