Fall 2014 applicants??
aGiRlCalLeDApPlE replied to sugoionna's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Here I am, getting myself ready for Fall 2014 cycle. I'll actually start by "building up" my CV I'll start working on my GRE later, maybe in May. What really needs to be done is for me to find a topic for my writing sample, I'm sure my old one sucked. And although I liked my SOP, I think I'll have to rewrite some parts of it. That's all I can think of right now. Do you think it's about time to start preparing your list of schools? -
Hi, This is my first post in this forum. I'm willing to attend a conference about "Teaching English", new methods ...etc. I'm really interested in participating with a poster on "teaching English literature" but I have no idea about designing posters or whatsoever. Actually, this will be my first conference at all. Any help? Another question: DO you think presenting a poster is as impressing as presenting a paper, in terms of admissions decision? I'm trying to build up my CV for next application cycle and I wanna make sure I do it right. Thanks

Hi, I've already started planning to reapply next Fall, after being rejected by 3 schools. I do have a list of questions that I'd be grateful if anyone here would answer: For cop. lit. programs, is it enough to be fluent in a foreign language (Arabic/mother tongue)? Or should I try to learn another language like French, Spanish, or Persian...? So many people talked about how important it is to have connections? What is an appropriate way to make connections with the depts. that you're going to apply to? Are there specific details that I should say to professors or things that I should never say? Is it necessary to take the subject GRE? Some highly ranked programs require it, but not so many. Should I take it or should I just stay away from those schools that require it? I guess my writing sample sucks cuz I really really didn't work hard on it, I just summarized my MA thesis. How to choose a topic to write about? a topic that would be interesting to read and reflect my interests too. Is attending conferences, just attending, worth mentioning at all? I know this is a long list, but I'm trying to hard to be well prepared for next year. Thank you

Is it true that international students are not eligible to apply this program? Sounds like a great one.

Hi, can you illustrate more on schools that are very hard to get in and those who are the opposite? If you happen to know. Thanks !

Do you have to present the paper personally at a conference? I can't afford to attend international conferences. Or do they publish your paper if approved, even if you don't attend the conference? Sorry, I just don't understand how it works ?

Anybody there??? Why Upenn suddenly appeared yesterday then suddenly disappeared??? I already e-mailed them last week and I don't think it's a good idea to e-mail them again. I'm very hopeless after receiving my first rejection from UT today. What can I do? Waiting gets harder and harder every second. -

It hurts so much to be rejected by your first choice. And they don't even bother to e-mail -

Have you tried to contact them? I e-mailed them a few days ago but they didn't respond. -

Is anyone still waiting for Upenn comp. lit? Do you know if they send e-mail for rejections too? Or they will choose to send letters? So cruel !!! -

So, 3 acceptances and 1 waitlist from Upenn. It seems that they keep rejections for last, it doesn't look good -

I had the same question in mind, since I haven't heard from them and my application status is still the same. It scared me when I saw 3 results from Upenn one after the other. I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight until I know something -

I've seen two posts on the results page from Upenn Comp. lit. Anyone in this forum? -

UT-Austin Comp. lit. sent an e-mail asking for my transcript, they said the uploaded file is not viewable ? Anyway, I'm frustrated that while I'm waiting impatiently for their decision, they're still "in the process of reviewing my application". It seems that there'll be no end for that. Does anyone know if this is a good or a bad sign?
