  1. thx. I'm already using this website. I hope I see some results on the real test
  2. regarding the GRE: I didn't find any of the vocab that I study for the test (those that we find in the famous lists of Barron's...etc.). Is this only because it's a practice test? Or really I won't find much of the words that I take hours and hours to memorize? Has anyone who took the test recently encountered the same problem?
  3. Well, good luck with all that writing. I don't think they have a diversity statement for the comp. lit. program. I didn't even know they require a cluster statement. Anyway, I'm glad you're done, almost. I'm currently working on my GRE cuz the test is next week. I feel horrible about it and I'm not optimistic at all cuz I suck at vocab. After next week I'll start working on my fit paragraphs. Ah, best of luck to all of us
  4. Are you applying to their comp. lit. program? Cuz I'll soon want to write a cluster statement? Which cluster are you aiming at? Mine is MENA. I'm afraid I'll have to join you later in Feb. or March, who knows?
  5. Does the test fee still include sending out score for 4 schools for free? I took the test once a few years ago and that was the case then
  6. Why don't you look at WUSTL? They have 2 or more people working on Jewish lit.
  7. Guys, is Nov. 14 too late for GRE? Most of my deadlines are in mid Dec., so a month will be ok right?
  8. Thank you all for your input. I checked this website ( http://www.uark.edu/ua/cplt/ ) and it says that two sets of application materials should be "mailed" in addition to the online application; one to the Graduate Office and another for the dept. itself. I still can't find the application deadline though. Anyway, I still have it on my list, although I know that their funding is not encouraging since I'll be living with dependents.
  9. Glad to see more people joining the group. Best luck for all of us
  10. Thanks. You know, I hate it that their admissions handbook doesn't even state a deadline for the application. It kills me, but I'll apply as early as I can. Whatever...
  11. How late do you think I should take the GRE if my deadlines mostly fall between mid-september and mid-Jan.? How many weeks does it usually take to get the scores sent? Should I be ok if I register for the test during the first two weeks of Nov.?
  12. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll try to be optimistic about the test and see, who knows
  13. Hi Proflorax, glad to hear all is well. I don't really know anything about the topic but I thought you might want take a look at this: http://orbala.blogspot.com/2013/09/call-for-papers-hashtag-publics-edited.html#more Sorry if this doesn't interest you, just wanted to help
  14. Congrats! I'm planning on taking it early Nov. Wish me luck. Can I ask a question though; how many words did you attempt to memorize before the test and were most of them on the test? Thanks
  15. Thank you for responding. I really don't like paper applications at all. I don't want to delete it cuz I really had a hard time to find only 4-5 programs that offer comp. lit. PhD with an emphasis on Arabic lit. Anyway, I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Thanks anyway.
  16. Hi, Is there anyone around who already studies at U of Arkansas, or maybe planning on applying there? I keep e-mailing their comp. lit. program admissions and they never respond. Their website is vague and they still require paper applications ! Any information or tips, or should I just remove it from my list of schools? thx.
  17. Welcome to the group Have you taken the GRE or not yet? I'm planning on taking it in November, hopefully first week. What about you?
  18. I think it should apply to all those between 1 and 20, even if they're more than 20 schools. The same number given to two schools means that they both have the same ranked, so they both should be counted, right? However, I'd advise you like many people here advised me before; focus on fit, no matter what the ranking is. You can apply to a school ranked as #100 for example and you'd think it's a safe choice but you may not get in if you don't fit. My two cents...
  19. I'm already following Arablit.wordpress. I'll see what I can do to make my research more appealing. I hope that you manage to do so too. It looks like very few people are heading for comp. lit. programs this year. Last year there was a very interesting group. I hope more people will join us here. Good luck
  20. I appreciate your encouragement a lot. You actually made me feel more hopeful that I'd be able to get an acceptance somewhere. I'll probably try to study or revise what I've studied in French so that I can add it to my CV with no shame. I have a question about my research point though; do I have to make a link in my research between English and Arabic? I have, I think, a very interesting and uptodate topic but it only focuses on Arabic lit. Do you think this is a downside of my application? I feel that it'd make my research less valuable if I try to force this kind of link, right?
  21. UT comp. lit. admissions page is even worse. It keeps repeating what is required for domestic students versus that which is required for international students and some parts at the end of the page are missing. I don't know how they never notice that. Anyway, I'll try to survive their (re)application process this year and see what happens later
  22. Nice. I've been looking for something like that. I'm applying to Comp. Lit. programs only and UT is on my list, again ! My languages are English and Arabic. I know it's not enough and having a third language would do me good for sure but I don't think I'll have the time to start learning a new one. I do have basic knowledge of French from high school, but I'm not sure if I can list this in nmy CV?? What do you think? I'll retake the GRE in a month or so, still working on my WS, and my SOP is yet to be revised. I'm aiming to applying to 5 schools. I hope more comp. lit people share their worries and hopes here. Best of luck to all
  23. I just saw that, and it does make sense in this case. I'll apply then
