  1. I decided to look for some documentation of an ancestor's Revolutionary War service. Figured it would be a good distraction. Found a scanned muster roll within an hour. OK, now what do I do with the rest of my evening?
  2. "Last time" was in 1997. *creak* I had applied to top anthro PhD programs, and got rejected by all of them. Chicago accepted me to their MAPSS program with partial funding, so I did it. I don't regret that decision at all, even if I'm still paying off the loans. It was the boot to the head that I needed. I actually used this "last time" story in my SOP, to illustrate how my interests have evolved and matured.
  3. Heart attack city!! Glad they have sorted that out!
  4. I like this one a lot. "No problem of human destiny is beyond human beings. Man's reason and spirit have often solved the seemingly unsolvable - and we believe they can do it again." John F. Kennedy
  5. For the Camus quote (sorry, I haven't figured out how to do that on the mobile site) how about, In truth, the road matters little; the desire to arrive is enough.
  6. LOL, Vincenzo! Yeah, I don't really blame them, either.
  7. I emailed the AA of a program to ask about a timeframe, and the reply was along the lines of "most people will learn by April 15th; some before, some after. Sorry I can't be more specific. " I suppose it's better than no answer?!

  9. I tend to seek comfort in oracles when I'm anxious and uncertain. Just downloaded Galaxy Tarot and Galacy Runes for Android. Very nice!
  10. Hi - another MAPSS alum here (1998). Bando's post is spot on. Academic boot camp describes it very well. However, if you get through it and finish, you will have a solid foundation to build on. I finished in 10 months and promptly started a job in a field totally different from what I'd studied. (Wrote my thesis on the use of popular imagery in contemporary Hindu worship. Ended up working in public health!)
  11. I applied to just one program, UConn PhD. I'm trying not to go crazy checking my email, although I was told by someone familiar with the review process that the admissions committee had their first meeting last week. Ahhhh!
