  1. I graduated from MAPSS in 1998. I'm glad that I did it, though it was like academic boot camp at times. I had a work study job and received 1/3 funding. I took mostly anthropology courses, but my faculty advisor was Wendy Doniger from the Divinity School. Good stuff. As for the open house- I would dress smart casual. I remember a lot of beer and chit chat.
  2. Congratulations, EdYouKateOr!!!!!!!!
  3. OK guys, tomorrow is the start of a new week! I'm feeling positive after a sunny, and dare I say - warm - weekend! And I'm hopeful that many of us will receive good news in the next couple of days. Let's do this thing!
  4. http://babyanimalzoo.com/ That is all.
  5. I have had struggles with similar issues for much of my life, so I can really relate to this. <3 While I was able to get an MA many years ago, I was thoroughly miserable and cried so much that it's a wonder that I didn't float away. I'm ready to enjoy graduate study now! This is for my self-fulfillment.
  6. Ughhhh, I had to come to work during this snow storm, so it would be really nice to get some good news....
  7. My husband is unemployed at the moment, so we are both stressed. We went out for pizza last night, which is particularly special because I have to be gluten free. That + draft Angry Orchard cider = happy. Can't do that every night, though
  8. For what it is worth... I was in the same exact situation several years ago, only I had applied to 5 grad schools and had gotten 4 reject letters. The last one was Chicago, my top choice. They ended up giving me an offer to MAPSS, with partial funding. You never know!! Congrats on the job!
  9. Got this from a family member recently. It doesn't help that their spouse just got an online master's. I should be able to just sign up for a PhD, right?
  10. Sooo, last week, I emailed the director of graduate studies in the department. He took a few days to answer, but he essentially said that he hopes to hear back on my case this week, and that he will be in touch. Fingers and toes are crossed!
  11. WTH?????? Did they ever send you a real letter?
  12. I think this is fine!
  13. I applied to just one program, myself - health communication at UConn (I see you're in Hartford as well!) I'm 40 and I've been working in public health for 15 years. Got my MA in 1998. I work for a state health care agency and I'm interested in using social media in the public health care sector. My goal is to stay with the state and do applied research. This is my second time applying to PhD programs and I'm a bit wiser and experienced than when I was 25.
  14. The DGS answered my email of a few days ago... "We are still working through the process. I'm hoping to hear back on your case next week. I will let you know."
  15. I just tried to use my SurveyMonkey login for ApplyYourself. Sigh. Happy Friday!
  16. ...you mess up a quote in your SOP.
  17. Pears, I sent that email yesterday morning and haven't heard back yet. Wah!
  18. Absolutely! What will it be?
  19. I contributed to the Indiegogo Tesla museum project. So excited!
  20. Actually, she mentions being a "single mom with no support"...
