  1. Well, if it is overdoing it you're not the only one!
  2. Good luck to you, MoreAdventurous! And my apologies for all the pessimism on my end!
  3. No info on NYU or Buffalo, sorry. In Minnesota news, my status changed from "Final review" to "Decision made," so I should have a decision by end of day tomorrow. I'm not exactly optimistic because I haven't encountered anyone who has received good news straight from the Minnesota website. I promise this isn't a *pity* party, just an observation for the other Minnesota applicants on the thread.
  4. Happy Birthday kyjin! Here's hoping for a birthday acceptance! I submitted an app on my birthday and thought that was stressful enough, but I imagine havuing your birthday during notification season is way more stressful!
  5. I can totally relate to the not concentrating aspect (I write from my office...) As for the scholarly work part, this may sound weird, but I've looked into a couple journals where I'd like to submit articles. Now that all of my apps are officially in, I'm thinking of working on a submission. It gives me something related to academia to focus on, is something I still have control over, and, if it works out, would surely help my applications if I don't get in anywhere! This may be crazy, but it's just my little idea for something to pass the time.
  6. Seriously! When I started the application process for my PhD, I re-read the SOP I wrote for my MA apps. I was shocked I got in anywhere. Definitely not looking at any of the PhD SOPs any time soon... Thanks, RubyBright; that's what I figured. Also, I agree, girl who wears glasses. All weekend I couldn't wait for Monday and now I'm dreading a week full of trying to focus on work (and not my personal e-mail, grad cafe, etc). I really wish my dream school wasn't the first program I'm expecting to hear from!
  7. Does anyone know if departments ever send out wait list notifications before rejections and acceptances? Obviously I'm not privy to a representative sample, but I've heard of wait lists going out at one program, but haven't encountered anyone who has been admitted/rejected. It seems odd to me, but maybe it isn't all that uncommon?
  8. Yeah, congrats Eidda! An amazing way to get your responses going!
  9. Thanks s0classic! Yeah, I. Getting the feeling my status changing probably isn't a good thing. Good luck to everyone else though!
  10. Welcome spatel918! For those of us still waiting to hear from Minnesota, when did you hear about it and has your status changed on the site? Thanks in advance for indulging those of us waiting not so patiently.
  11. Maybe there's something up with me then! I got the first two (really quickly), but not the third. I did reply yo the department response to let them know my recommenders mailed their letters a few weeks ago, which I got a response to, so maybe I threw the system off? Thanks for the detail, though! And good luck!
  12. Kglad, let me know if you ever get that email. It never came through for me, and I'm wondering if it was a system issue or just something off on my end. I had the exact same issue pickung a track; your solutionwas a good one! Ultimately, Critical Studies in Media, Film, and Culture was a better fit with my interests and the cross-listed faculty I would like to work with, so I went that route. I can't believe we could hear back as early as two weeks from now! Here's hoping for quick, good news!
  13. Eager, you're the best cheerleader ever. so glad you're here!
  14. I thought so too! I never got the email with upload instructions, so I ended up sending it to the address provided by the department. Definitely one of the more unique apps I've seen.
  15. What makes you not optimistic, kglad? You're at Minnesota now, right? I figure you might have some inside info
  16. Thanks much sansao and RubyBright! I'll hold on to hope a little longer Best of luck to you both!
  17. Hello all! I posted this on another thread not too long ago, but everyone here seems so nice I thought I'd share it with those who check in here just to get some more input. Here goes: Toward the end of the business day today my application status changed from "Awaiting Program Decision" to "Final Review." The grad school notes on its website that this status means, "your program has made its admission decision and University officials are doing a very quick (usually within two business days) final review of your materials before sending out the decision notification." I thought that departments notify applicants informally when their applications are accepted and passed on to the graduate school for final the review. Does anyone know of any cases where this is not the case? I'm hoping this is a good omen, but I'm getting the feeling that I'll only be hearing from the directly graduate school (and not the department) if it's a rejection... Good luck everyone!
  18. Much appreciated, EdYouKateOr! Of course an answer would be nice, but knowing I'm not alone is definitely a comfort. Thanks.
  19. I am officially freaking out, but, rather than bothering everyone on the interdisciplinary thread I usually post to, I thought I'd move my obsessive anxiety to another thread! Here's my current fixation: Toward the end of the business day my application status changed from "Awaiting Program Decision" to "Final Review." The grad school notes on its website that this status means, "your program has made its admission decision and University officials are doing a very quick (usually within two business days) final review of your materials before sending out the decision notification." I thought that departments notify applicants informally when their applications are accepted and passed on to the graduate school for final the review. Does anyone know of any cases where this is not the case? I'm getting the feeling that I'll only be hearing from the directly graduate school (and not the department) if it's a rejection... Thanks for letting me vent on here all!
  20. I couldn't resist... I just called and the person I spoke with (grad secretary maybe?) said they are in the process of notifying people and we will all know by early Feb at the latest. :-/
  21. In Minnesota news, my ApplyOnline status just changed (at some point since I last checked around noon, yes, I'm officially obsessed) to "Final review." Any other Minnesota applicants notice something similar?
  22. Yeah, BGSU has an awesome program. I'm halfway through my app and second-guessing everything. I should have just submitted it with the others so I wasn't going back and forth like this!
