Fall 2015 Acceptances (!)
InHacSpeVivo replied to hreaðemus's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Thanks for sharing, orbial. I didn't hear anything either. I was about to e-mail them, but since you did already I figure I'll hold off a few days. If you get a response and don't mind sharing that would be great; I doubt whatever answer I get will be much different anyway. -

Re: OSU, I've been hoping for waitlist since all the acceptances went out. Here's hoping you awesome admitted people getting the university-wide fellowship making some room for us lowly folk. Edit: Speaking of in-limbo schools. Any thoughts on Penn State or Maryland? -

I got an e-mail saying a decision was available. About twenty minutes later the decision showed up on the front page. -

First official rejection came in (Brown). Totally expected, but still a bit sad (there is always that little bit of hope regardless, right?). C'est le vie! -

It took twenty minutes or so for the decision letter to show up after I received notification a decision had been made (once it was posted it was plain as day). -

I was shut out of 11 in 2013... hopefully NOT the record, but it's a possibility. -

WT: without derailing things too much... Probably four years ago that would have been bad, but now the team is so different it's pretty much all the same. I'm not originally from Boston, so I actually grew up a Canucks fan (back in the Messier days). since you're a Canadian I can't really judge. As it happens in mildly obsessed with Canadian culture and am traveling to Toronto, Ottawa, and Gatineau next month on fellowship to study Morley Callaghan. It's very exciting for me, in no small part because the Bruins will be playing the Senators while we're there, so I'm going to my first Canadian hockey game! (The Blues will also be playing the Maple Leafs that week, but, despite my love of their mascot, I don't think we can pool the funds for the highest ticket prices in hockey.) I figure this is an appropriate thread for a minor hockey spiel. Anything is more pleasant than rejections, right? I love that you could tell the two (for me) obvious rejections! I'm biased toward big sports schools because my fiancé loves sports and, given that he went to a tiny liberal arts school, would love to have a team he could really get behind. -

Congrats! I met several Georgia State grad students at SAMLA last winter, and it seems like a very congenial, productive program. My plan is to hold off until tonight. I'm hoping the DGS will follow-up with funding info sometime tomorrow. If I haven't heard anything by the time I get out of class I plan to contact them. -

Hey! Saved me the trouble. It's good to have a place for commiseration. As an ex-VA resident (almost six years in southern VA), I must agree there are much better places than Charlottesville. By the by, morris... it looks like we have four schools in common! (Ohio State, Florida, Maryland, and Brown). I'm fully expecting rejections from two of those, but very much hoping the other two work out. -

Well, ask and you shall receive... I just got an acceptance to Georgia State! Unfortunately, no word on funding and it's not guaranteed, but hopefully they'll send a personalized email tomorrow with that info (it was an email to check the website with a standard letter from the dean). Oddly, randomly checked the website an hour ago and there was no update then. I'm on a mobile device now, but I will make that rejection thread tomorrow, nameassociations be damned! (or I can always change my user name ) Thanks for the advice on funding, echo. I was going to pose the question to the group toward the end of the week. They said they very much hope to offer me a TAship and that they'd let me know ASAP, probably in a few weeks. Of course that was back on January 20th. I figured it wouldn't hurt anything to ask if they had an idea of when they'd know given that admitted student weekend is at the end of the month. They're paying for the hotel, which is awesome, but I'd hate to spend the money on the flight only (and miss class) only to find out I can't attend because there's no funding. -

HaHa! <3 Between Friday the 13th and Valentine's Day (not to mention that my biggest reach typically notifies tomorrow), I think a rejection thread will be in order sooner rather than later... Of course, we can always *hope* otherwise, but I'd really like to just know at this point, ya know? Right about now the last time I applied I was in the all rejection boat. In some ways having an acceptance without funding info is almost worse. On top of the panic of getting rejected everywhere, I wont be able to go to the school that admitted me without funding! I think it's only maddening right now because my department is finalizing teaching schedules and I can't commit. If I don't get in anywhere and only get rejections I may also not have a job to fall back on depending on how long notifications take! Sigh... Complaining over... -

Hypervodka you're so classy! Never feel weird posting your successes to the acceptances board! We're happy to hear of your success. Welcome florentino, and congrats space_elf! There are several schools where I'd be thrilled to be wait listed! Edit: I have 14 left to hear from. I thought for sure this would be a big week but still no word. So, yeah, it's maddening... Bridge jumping pact? -

Congratulations, mehrlicht! And thanks so much for proving that with PhD apps "reapply" is the watch word. As a second (technically third) time applicant, it's always nice to see others who weren't dissuaded. -

AmityDuPeuple: I too am from Boston (currently living out of state for a funded master's, but still have a place in the city, about four miles from Simmons, actually). If you need any additional input you can PM me.

My feeling is that it's a troll given the recent anxiety surrounding notifications on the results page. Also, Brown hasn't done phone notifications for MCM in at least four cycles. However, the do have a new DGS this year, so maybe she's switching it up? -

I've heard variably that 160 and 163 (90th percentile) are the "magic" numbers for verbal scores, and as long as you hit that you're fine. The only time anyone has ever told me that GRE scires are really useful is when you're under consideration for university-wide fellowships. Otherwise, I agree with what NowMoreSerious posted. -

I didn't apply this cycle, but I was rejected from Chicago during the 2013 cycle. FWIW, that year that sent out rejections way after admits and WLs.
