Good Sign, Omen or Hallucination - All Are Welcome!
Eager replied to Eager's topic in Waiting it Out
First, Welcome! Secondly, if that is one of your programs then it is good to know that they are finally reporting so that you know you will hear something soon. On this topic we usually say good signs are when the program shows interest (in any way) towards us. Omens are mystical. So while someone else getting in may not fall into any of those categories traditionally, it let's you know the line is moving, and if the line is moving that means soon it has to be your turn, there or somewhere that's right for you! -

First, thank you! That makes me smile. Secondly, I agree with you, it does seem awfully confusing and cumbersome that every applicant gets an email of an "official student Id"? Jeeze! In any case, as your deadline was only a few weeks ago, you do realize that as those of us who were here earlier move on to the forums for those in programs, you and others must take up the torch of optimism and allow it to burn brightly for others that will find this topic. Are you ready to pick up your pom poms when I make my (hopefully graceful) exit and cheer others on? -
You are so right. I actually need to fill out financial aid parts and thing of that nature, but if I were to be honest, I actually am doing a little more than I should. i just want him to succeed so badly....I'll get him to fill some papers out tomorrow! Can you believe it...I'm going to a Ph.D program and my baby is going to college!

Let me tell you what I consider to be an amazing sign and Omen (a double whammie) and oddly enough it has nothing to do with my program. I have been saying to my husband (we just celebrated 18 year of marriage last month) that "this is our time!" We bought a foreclosure April of 2011 (you wouldn't believe for how much - crazy) 4 bedrooms, finished basement, three bathrooms. It was always my dream to own my own home and have a Ph.D. before I was 40. Well at least I'm on track with the house. Since we are in NY and the house is in Georgia it was so expensive going down to look at it, then going down to close, on and on and on. We finally got a rent paying tenant (woooh hoooo hoooo!) But we spent all the money getting his basement ready and the kitchen. We have never stayed in the house. We always took the kids and stayed in a hotel while we worked on it. We finally made a decision that we would not stay in any hotels anymore. So we decided we had to get bedroom sets for the four of us, fix the bathroom, oh and buy flooring and have it installed by the end of March, which is when we were going back. It seemed impossible. I mean impossible. But all of a sudden, one by one, we have been getting little blessings dropped in our lap. Unexpected blessings, and it looks like we might actually make it. Now everything isn't paid for, but I just heard about another unexpected blessing the other day. I looked at him and said again, "Baby, this is our time!" After so many years of struggle, I really believe that. And I know that those unexpected blessings won't just end at our house but it will sweep me right into the program I belong in. This is my hope....my prayer for everyone that comes in contact with this topic. It's not an accident. This is our time! Unexpected blessing are on the way....and not just with acceptance letters, that too, but think bigger than that...Something good is getting ready to happen! -

Oh, do I feel you! Absolutely. It sounds like your job recognizes your value, so it's a no brainer that the right program will recognize your value as well. 1-2 weeks you say? Well, I will be get ready to light this topic up with congrats when you get your good news! Woooo Hooooo! -
What a great topic! What are you trying to do? Make us feel guilty? Okay, what should I be doing... a lot things... Cleaning Filling out my son's college apps. (Wouldn't it burn if he got in before I did?) Working on my third novel (should have finished it a year ago!) There's more to the list, but suffice it to say....you have guilted me into getting something done tonight. Darn you!

I'm so sorry to hear that. Sometimes the #1 school in our minds, doesn't necessarily mean it will be the best fit for us in the long run. I am definitely hoping that the other application will bring good news. Believe and don't doubt! That is what I am telling myself over and over again! -

Awwwwww! That is so sweet! I really believe that we will all get into the program that is meant for us....that said, if I have a little breakdown between now and the time I hear, don't hold it against me! -

First, Welcome! Secondly, why wonder? It is one of two things, they either assign applicants a number that they can use to be easily identified, or you're in and that is your official student ID. Why not just call Admissions and ask what it means. Then you will know. Keep us posted. This sounds very interesting!!! -

I didn't mean to vote your post up, I was trying to hit quote at that moment...didn't want you to wonder why I was voting up news of a rejection. That said, I am sooooooo sorry to hear that. I know it must be rough. But you have a lot of places to hear from. So this has toughened your skin, you've gotten the first one out of the way and now you can make way for the good news. Keep your head up. I believe in you! -

It's not braggy at all! This is so awesome. I am so happy for you. Of course you are going to be a great grad student. Wow! 2 for 2! You go! We celebrate you and look forward to more good news coming your way! Wowzer! -

Don't do that to yourself. I don't think the adcom from your program is googling you and saying "Ah Ha! Look who she is following." Relax....Do something good for yourself. Think about all the other great things you've accomplished and wait for good news! -

This actually is a great explanation. Thank you. I had been wondering for awhile now. There are some posts that seem a little....out there. But for the most part the forums seems filled with down to earth people who want to go to grad school. Having said that, I'm not the anonymous type. So, I will probably be switching from the cute beaver to the my real picture at some point! -

I agree with spacezepplin. It sounds like the vibe was really good. And as I have said before, POI's don't want to be the one who let's the cat out of the acceptance bag too soon. If I were you I would expect good news... -

First, the fact that they have your completed app is important! I read a post by someone on another topic saying they were rejected and found out that one of their recommenders never submitted. That's terrible. So now you know they have all your materials. Excellent! I don't know why you think you won't get funding once accepted. Think positive. There has to be some good news on the way for all of us..... -

I think this is great. At least you have some movement! My app doesn't say a blessed thing. It simply records what has been submitted. I would love to see final review. That would mean that something is going to happen. We are all thinking positive thoughts for you - that's how we roll here! Let us know what happens!!!!! -

Wow, EdYouKateOr that is such an awesome idea!!!! I kept fooling around with my picture today. First I wanted a picture of Bert from Bert and Ernie. Then I uploaded a real picture of myself, that I really like, but I thought almost no one has a picture of themselves and I didn't want to be in the minority and people think I'm a weirdo. And believe me with all this obsessing about my program, I feel like a weirdo! So finally I found a picture of a beaver (get it, eager beaver) and I uploaded that. But your post gives me the idea that once I get accepted I will either upload a picture of my sweatshirt from the school or a picture of me wearing it. Why can't we all just show ourselves I wonder? What is the big secret of the fake names and odd pictures? I don't get it, I just go alone with it. If anybody knows why we do this, I would love for you to tell me. I for one would like to see the people I'm talking to and not just flowers and animals and random things... By the way, I need your opinion people. I have never visited my program physically. I am in Brooklyn and the school is in Manhattan so not far at all. The wait is driving me batty. I would love to go visit the school. I've heard it's nice. But is that pushing it too far? No matter how hard I try, I will end up in the English department and I don't want them to find me wandering around before acceptances go out - like A WEIRDO! As much as I want to, maybe I should just wait until I get accepted so I have a real reason for being there. Thoughts anyone? -
I just went from an Espresso Shot to a Double shot! Oh sukki sukki now.

Try to hold it together a little while longer. We are all in the same boat. My thought is we can all go as crazy as we need to, just as long as we don't jump overboard. Hang on! We will celebrate together on this forum!--Gosh I'm looking forward to it! -

First, Welcome! Secondly, congrats on the interview. Sometimes people have poker faces (or poker emails) when it comes to things like this, so as not to be the one who let the cat out of the acceptance bag. So I wouldn't go so far as to say this is a bad sign. I think you are really going to have to wait and see on this one. But for goodness sake, don't keep us hanging. Let us know what happens. -

Gosh, that sucks goos eggs. Sorry to hear that! Try doing something pleasant before you go to sleep, kinda help yourself along. it's funny that you say that because this entire process is extremely nightmarish...the only question is: when will it in? -
Good Sign, Omen or Hallucination - All Are Welcome!
Eager replied to Eager's topic in Waiting it Out
Well, I care too much to lie, it's not a good sign in the traditional sense. A good sign would be an interview invite, a nice email from a POI, things like that. Now, omens are mystical, so someone might consider it an omen. Personally, I wish I had an email about anything, for anything, regarding anything (except a rejection) from my program. So..let's go with an omen. It would be so courageous to actually buy some apparel and wear it as though you got in. Not sure I could do that.
