This is bodes *really* well for your next cycle. Head up.

Guess who was the trolllll... Seriously, just don't reply to antagonistic accounts made in the last 24 hours.
-
Yeah, I just took that one down because it was sus as fuck (brand new 1 post account making an app thread?), given the problems we've been having.
-
Just think of it as a performance art piece. Also, if you don't quote or reply but just report, I can delete the posts without messing up the thread for future readers.

I think the prestige difference between the degrees, even if there was any, would be the least important bit in your application.
-
IDK, if they roast you for trying, then that's really good information to have early.

Don't expect to succeed, is my thought. Especially in this environment. A funding offer that's not comfortably livable is not actually a funding offer.

You gain nothing from such an email and you may annoy someone. Just be patient.

Rejections always go out after acceptances. If you didn't hear yes, then it's almost certainly a no.
-
It is literally impossible to pass them otherwise.

"What question did you not ask at your visit that you wish you had?" Probably best asked over a beer, but pandemic.

UC Berkeley – EECS class is fifteen percent black

Oof, yeah, no, we're not doing this. I suggest you spend some time with yourself and figure out why something good happening to someone else feels like a personal assault. -
You're not so bad yourself

I wasn't even going this far! A MAPSS with 1/2 tuition is something that one should consider; the MAPSS program is really good as these things go. Chicago is much better than, say, Columbia, when it comes to just taking MA money and running, although this is also a difference between the MAPSS and MAPH. 1/2 tuition is just not a good deal.
-
Yes, there are indeed many programs which you should not attend.
-
Calling even 1/2 tuition on $60k without stipend "generous" stretches credulity.

Going from an unranked MA program to reputable PhD... is it possible?
dr. t replied to sonnybunny's topic in History
Oh, then yeah, that's doubly trash. If a place has enough money to help fund its MA students (and you shouldn't go otherwise), then it values the program enough that you'll get something good out of it. -

I don't even know what an "unranked MA" means in a humanities context, TBH. -
Hm? Usually this just means if you don't have a PhD you should get a letter from a direct supervisor who's willing to say you're qualified. That you think your BA, whatever your gpa, should fulfil this requirement just means you don't really have a good grasp of what your skills are relative to others. Documents are fragile and can't be used without qualification. Those dirty fingers (or even clean ones) destroy the documents over time. They should digitize them, of course. But access to archives isn't what's killing the humanities.

Pretty sure that was my first impression of you as well ?

Even my patience has limits. Take a break.

Take a break.

Well, that's an interesting interpretation. But I'm not a graduate student. Having been subject to cyber-bullying myself in the past in a variety of forms, I take allegations of the same quite seriously, because I know they are easily dismissed. Consequently, I have a particularly strong reaction to those who, as you have done first with Samir and now with me, weaponize such language in order to force those with whom they disagree to shut up. On that note, enjoy your "call".
-
I did no such thing. I thought you were deleting your account?
-
Really? No, it's not. It's not even close. Again, just because you don't like something, or something isn't phrased in a way that makes you happy, doesn't make it against the rules.
