Uranus smells really bad today.

short amount of time? i did 10 applications in the span of 8 weeks and i didnt start until early fall, and i took my sweet time. anyone who was laid off could have easily done what i did in the span of 3 weeks or less. i'm not really sure what your applications entailed, but it doesnt take months to put one together.

looks like the applied math depts at both univ of arizona and univ of iowa have started making offers. but nothing in my email inbox.     somebody hold me... -
i heard that if the post office were to stop tuesday delivery, that it wouldn't happen any earlier than may.

81st percentile means 81% of the people taking the test scored lower than you. please explain to me how being in the top 19% "isn't pretty"? i'd say thats certainly respectable enough to get anybody's app looked at.

although i haven't received even a single response from the 10 schools i applied to, i've already been looking at different schools that i might consider applying to next year. although like i said in my previous post in this thread, i'd only apply to maybe 4 schools total next year and really focus on doing everything i could with those schools like making strong correspondences with professors and maybe even visiting the programs.

seriously, there needs to be a nationwide boycott of ETS by potential grad students everywhere. that organization is the screwiest and the biggest scam ever. how can it possibly cost TWENTY DOLLARS per school to send a piece of paper? and on top of that, there is no guarantee that it will even get there!

the math program at NC State that i posted about in my first post has apparently accepted another "gradcafe-er" that wasn't me. -
this is the second year for me. last year i pompously only applied to 2 schools. although i was at least waitlisted by both, not outright rejected. so i do think both of those schools were within my academic reach. i think i just didnt present myself well enough in the application process. this year i'm applying to 10 schools including those 2 from last year. if i dont get in anywhere, i'm not completely sure what i'm gonna do. i think i'll try and find a real job and then apply again but probably just go back to applying to those 2 i applied to the first time and maybe just one or two others as well. if i get in then i'll go for it. if not, then i'll probably have to move on with life and accept that it isnt for me.

many. but others reach that point before 15 years if they start out with a masters degree. as i've already explained.
-
and with all of that education and experience you still have to rely on sarcasm to try and prove your point? (which also doesn't disprove anything i even said in my last post.)

WRONG if you look even more carefully, the majority of those making $100k are in fact teachers. yes there are plenty of administrators as well, but typically the administrators are the ones making closer to 150-200k. and there are noticably less of those. the entire chicago suburban sprawl is FULL of schools that pay comparably well. peruse the site and find out for yourself. ok. fair. but my point would be that if you want to be a teacher and you want to make decent money, you certainly can. not all teachers are paid peanuts. unfortunately, making decent money as a teacher is heavily dependent on these three criteria: 1. having at least a masters degree 2. teaching high school 3. teaching in a decent suburb in a decent state and so of course, the majority of teachers do not have these three things going for them.

due to the freedom of information act, all public teacher salaries are available to the public. http://www.thechampion.org has all illinois teacher's salaries viewable. here is a neighboring school district of mine. a TON of teachers make over six figures. and this is a middle class PUBLIC high school. http://www.championnews.net/district.ph ... &year=2007 hell, the chicago suburbs are full of well paid teachers.
-
those are some really unimpressive numbers. there is definitely a much higher percentage of teachers at my old high school making six figures. i've heard people say you could make more money as a high school teacher than as a professor, but i never actually believed it.

^^^ that's awesome. there have been a few local food places in the past where they knew me as well. anyways, as for me, i'll be eating Fruity Pebbles, Fruit Loops, L'eggo Waffles, milk and OJ more than anything else. i love breakfast food.

you may be on to something. i spent 3 years on a professionally oriented masters degree at a fairly decent school, but the whole program was a poorly organized mess. and many of the classes were also somewhat below average in structure, curriculum, and assessment. its too bad that i was ignorant of any warning signs in the beginning. it wasn't until about midway through the program in which i realized what i had got myself into. i still finished it, but i can't say i'm too happy with what i got out of it even though i got good grades and all. i'd recommend you do whatever else you can to find out more about the program. try contacting some current students. you never know, maybe they're just having a really hectic month and its actually a really good program.

Anyone else regretting not applying to more schools?
frankdux replied to waitingNC's topic in Waiting it Out
i applied to 10. my goal was 10-12. so i feel fine. although, in all honesty, maybe 1 or 2 aren't really a great fit after all. i still feel fine though. last year i only applied to 2, and these were schools i felt were awesome fits. i was waitlisted and eventually rejected by both. i'm applying to those 2 again, and those are still my target schools. but i know i needed to add more schools and be a bit more realistic and less cocky with the number of schools i apply to. -
best of luck to you! (just dont get obsessed over minutiae. it'll eat you alive.)

find more ways to argue with me, why dont ya?

there have been a few stories on here before about people getting rejected by safeties and accepted by reach schools. it happens.
