  1. Hey,

    To all who applied to McGill I was just wondering where exactly you have been checking for your acceptance. Has it been on the McGill uApply website that we submitted everything to? Thanks!

    Yep. When your decision is ready you get an email notification saying "Significant decision made" that directs you to log in to uApply to retrieve it. It's the same place where you submitted all your materials.

  2. <p>

    It doesn't say last two years on their website. Are you talking about the SLP or another program? See below. To me this sounds like your entire undergrad.

    M.Sc.A. Entry Requirements:

    • an undergraduate degree with a minimum of a B average (3.0 on a 4.0 scale);
    • a set of course prerequisites (24 credits total) completed in excellent standing;
    • your CV;
    • a letter of intent (this requirement has been modified please see specific instructions);
    • proof of English competency, if required.

    It says it in the FAQ section...last 2years.

  3. Thanks :) I am realizing that I have a lot of options still so I am ok... I haven't heard a "no" yet .... But also--- I want to specialize in Voice disorders .... UBC might not be the best for that anyway..... I only just started this journey and like so many of you who have applied numerous times ---- I am pretty darn persistent !! In the mean time I have two big auditions coming up so acting can be my back up plan !! ( most actors have a " real" job back up plan .... For me acting is my income so I will be ok for now :) )

    You have an awesome outlook, Van. :)

  4. "Why are you even doing a Phd? How is it relevant? How can you serve the Lord with a PhD in Victorian Literature?" --my mother

    I got into three schools, two with full funding/fellowships, and this is the response I get.

    ...sometimes, I just want to cry. I'm the first person in my family to pursue a PhD, but clearly that's irrelevant to my increasingly fanatic-religious mother. The only way she will ever be happy with me is if I settle down, pop out a few kids, and read every single sermon she emails me (which is 10+ a week, people, not even exaggerating).

    Tell her you're serving the Lord by using the brain that he blessed you with to further your education...wouldn't want to waste those talents.

  5. I just received a call from Monmouth University. I've FINALLY been ACCEPTED! I have a phone interview with another school in about fifteen minutes and I'm crying my eyes out. I hope you ALL get to experience this feeling if you haven't already. Never lose hope!

    Yayyy! Congrats, Arg!!! I'm sooooo happy for you! (FYI-I'm loving the green in your signature :-) )

  6. Guys... :(    I am trying to stay positive too, but it's getting hard. This week long stress (since McGill began admitting) has been so painful.

    Any program would be lucky to have such passionate SLP's as you guys.

    I know it's hard, and totally understandable to get discouraged.  All of us have been through every emotion imaginable at various times throughout this process, so we get how you feel.  But that's what we're here for...to keep up the positivity when yours starts to wane. We got ya covered... :).

  7. E, no more farewell/thank you speeches!

    Think about it...it makes sense that your app would take longer. You applied to the combined research program, so not only do they have to review your app for admission, but they also have to pair you with a research supervisor. AND you know they have to get the PhD students squared away first.

    You can give up if you want, but we're still hoping for the best!

  8. Hi there,

    I was just wondering about the funding for McGill. What type of funding did you apply for?

    If anyone else has any information regarding funding(scholarships, bursaries...etc) for mcgill or UofT, that would be helpful.

    Thanks and good luck to all!

    Hey,

    Being an international student (wow...feels sooooo weird calling myself that), I was not elibile to apply for the typical Canadian funding sources. I'm a doctoral student, so my funding package is being put together by my PI and the CSD Department.

    I do remember seeing on McGill's CSD Department website a list of funding opportunities for Canadian MS, PhD, and Post-Doc students.  The deadlines have passed for many of them, but you may want to check it out.

  9. I also wanted to go to McGill because the research, I can do SLP + one year in research...  I had a few chats with 2 professors last month about that and they seemed to be interested in me...  they contact me on their own !  That is why I am so disappointed to have nothing yet !  They told me I have a very 'strong dossier'...  I don't understand...   :unsure:

    Anyway, CSD seems to be a great place to do research, when you'll come back, PsycD, let me know how you found the school and the people there !

    Maybe it's taking longer because you applied to the combined program. I think everyone except the two of us applied to do the two year SLP program.

    Everyone I've talked to has been wonderful so far, so I'm really looking forward to the visit. I will definitely let know how it goes!

  10. I applied to schools based on research fit, not program, so I ended up applying to 3 different programs: Psyc, Comm, and CSD.

    You're right...I do have a tough choice ahead. I've narrowed it down to two schools, but they're two different programs, in two different countries, each leading me down two very different paths.

    Craziness...

  11. I'm going to have a heart attack if I don't get an email soon. My status still says 'In Review'  :wacko:

    Me too !  Nothing happened today  :huh:

    I'm going to have a heart attack vicariously through you two. Every time I see you guys post, I'm hoping it's to share the good news. Come on, McGill!!! :blink:

  12. I just declined offers at UGA and UT Austin, so I hope it helps someone on the waitlist!!

    I just declined one of my offers. Is it just me or was it tough to turn them down, even with an acceptance to your dream school? I was so grateful for the offers I received. I felt terrible. The final cut will be even worse. Idk why this is bothering me so much.

  13. I just saw on the results someone got a call from UBC on FRIDAY.... but the lady told me they wouldn't start contacting until next week. My heart sank.

    What?! I must've missed that one.

    Don't worry Vancity...that's just one call. They're not done notifying people...your call is coming! :)
