  1. I know this is a stressful time for many people here and I was in the same boat many times over and over (still haven't gotten in lol). But I just want to remind everyone that at the end of the day- this is just a graduate school program. I know it means a lot and may get you started on your career path, but all of you have the capability already there. Find what gets you fired up and makes you happy and follow it. Do it whether you get in or not and you will be happy anyway. This is just one option but what's needed to have fulfiling careers is already in you so try not to make this into more than it is- just one more option of making your career dreams come true. You will make it happen either way if you really want to and it will be just as amazing when you do
  2. Lol do we want to do that to ourselves... ? We know how competitive this program is
  3. Fair enough. I'm in the same boat as you! This is my third time applying to Ryerson and I got interviews last two years. Third time is definitely not a charm for me! lol Oh well *shrug*
  4. Fair enough. But we're all anonymized here no? How would they know who's talking about them..? What am I missing.. Also, does anyone know if all interview invites for Ryerson have gone out? Should I let go of the hope like I did with UTSC?
  5. Why are people so secretive about their POIs...
  6. Ryerson interview invites going out eh? Got interviews with my POI last two years. Nothing this year. Somehow my application got worse or what?
  7. Any reviews on the Clinical and Counselling Psych program at OISE that you guys know of? Good program? Good prospects? I've applied to only 3 schools this year. Let's see how this goes
  8. I need a bit more motivation to study for the GRE (again). Wondering if people in the Toronto area would be interested in meeting up for a study group every now and then!
  9. My lab is opening up a position for Part Time (at first) RA at CAMH in schizophrenia research. If anyone is interested, please PM me. Thanks!
  10. I keep hearing about people getting invites or communication after receiving rejections.. If only I could experience this too.. haha
  11. Omg congrats!!! That's so lucky! And exciting!!!
  12. Did you get in? I saw a post on the results thread that seemed similar to your situation
  13. I am beyond impressed...
  14. Hey, thanks for the reply. 17 schools? wow. That is a lot! Can I ask what the process was like for you? The most I have applied to is 5 and it seemed like so much work! How did you manage 17??
  15. Thanks @piagetsky and @FacelessMage. It's definitely a hard process!
  16. Got official rejection from Ryerson (from POI). Second time interviewing with him. Honestly dont know what works in this process.. so disheartened...
  17. I currently work in a psychiatry lab and have had no issues. I have made great connections and have learned a lot. It is especially interesting because you learn things from a medical perspective. Got 2/3 interviews so can't be that bad I would highly encourage it.
  18. Thanks! Are POIs sending out recommendations?
  19. do you have anything on Ryerson?
  20. Some advice from my POI to go over and above basic requirements: "It will also be important to have a line of investigation that you can claim as yours. There are 2 parts to that: a- it is important to demonstrate that you are constructing your own line of investigation. It can certainly be related to whatever your supervisor is doing but needs to be independent enough to let committees know that a piece of the work is yours. b- it is preferable if your work has a common theme vs. several different lines of investigation (unless you can tie them together in a cohesive story). As a rule, committees like concentrated efforts vs. "dabbling" in different areas (and that is true through a person's entire academic career) I've sat in a lot of these sorts of meetings over the years and there seems to be general agreement one dept. to another regarding these 2 points." And regarding LOIs: "In general, I suggest putting down as much concrete as possible regarding what you have done and what has come of that work. Personal statements are often seen by candidates as an opportunity to wax eloquently regarding their goals and future. That's not necessarily bad but I believe in the end these are trumped by statements where candidates clearly detail what they have done that warrants them being considered as good picks for a program. My own PhD advisor drove that home from the time I started working with him and now, having sat on the other side for many years, I see that he was correct." Hope it's helpful!
  21. Thanks! My POI usually gets back to me within a day but he's been away. There is some hope maybe! Congrats on getting waitlisted though! One step closer! I hope it works out for you!
  22. Anyone know if Ryerson applicants are getting notifications from POI or from admin? My POI is away with limited internet access and it's giving me hope...
  23. I would probably do so in just a sentence or two and thank him for his time and say you're looking forward to hearing back and such
  24. I'd assume rejection, which I have
