  1. Which SLP schools will take the MAT instead of the GRE?
  2. Yeap, it is true. That is what the Mutual Recognition Agreement is all about.
  3. Yeah, it is the same for Canadians too. We have exams, test, quizes etc. It depends on the course sometimes you will have projects, but they are still not easy and if a class give 10% it is not for showing up to class it is for participation in labs, seminars etc. Therefore if you are a person who is shy and does not participate in class, you will not get that grade. That is to compensate for our hard exams, test etc. I see it is more of an incentive lol.
  4. Yes, i agree with that too. Most schools also say that if they have two applicants with the same gpa and they need to decide who to take, they take the one with the highest GRE score
  5. Yes, that is the same case for me. In Canada you have to work extremely hard for your grades. They don't just give out A's and A+ that easily. It seems like America is easier when it comes to that because everyone seems to have near to perfect gpa which is not the case here.
  6. Yes, GPA is the most important. My GPA isn't the best either. judging from all the acceptances everyone has a high gpa unless something went wrong with LOI or references. I know that one school i applied to has a ranking 50 percent for grades and 10 percent each for everything else.
  7. oh ok gotcha. That is something i would like to know too. Hopefully someone knows.
  8. Well, if you go to the CSD graduate admission website it says references may be contacted for further information. See below References may be contacted for further information – do not send letters of recommendation. Letters will not be considered or kept on file by the department. Click here for reference form. http://www.wku.edu/communicationdisorders/graduateadmission.php
  9. I have a question for everyone. Your input is appreciated. Do you think that admission committee will look into the length of time that one took to complete an undergraduate degree and also repeating several courses? Thanks.
  10. What does "You have been placed on the alternative list" even mean? Is it a waitlist?
  11. It is my first time applying and i feel for all of you who have been trying each year. I have been so afraid of rejection that is why i never tried applying until now.
  12. I know it is hard to think of a back up plan when this is all you want to do. But i believe everything happens for a reason and SLP is not the only profession in the world.
  13. I know right? That is what everyone said. When i asked her the response was "i will give you a reference and hope that it will be helpful". That is when i had a bad feeling about it. Her response basically sounded like i am not good enough to go to grad school. She asked me to look at other alternative like ECE. She is older and she just has her BA before the masters became mandatory. So i am guessing she doesn't want me to get a masters. She did pretend really as if she care about me. Such is life.
  14. I only applied to schools that didn't require the GRE because i am so terrified of standardized test or any test for that matter. My GPA isn't great at all. I do have a lot of experience and related experience. My next step is continue to work, try to take the GRE, and apply for spring admission. An SLP i worked with also gave me terrible reference. I realized it because one of the schools i applied to only wanted 2 references and i decide to take out one of my references. I took out hers because i had a terrible feeling and i was right. She gave me a terrible reference. This is someone that acted like they really like me. So i know that will affect me for sure. But yes sending out positive vibes for everyone.
  15. I know what you mean. Same here. It is tough, but we need to stay strong. You applied to 26 schools? lol
  16. To all those who have yet to receive an offer of admission including myself STAY STRONG. There is a time for everything.
  17. Phonology and phonetics are two different courses. So no school would accept one over the either. You need both however, it seems like phonology is not really one of the prerequisites for most schools. Phonetics is.
  18. I don't know about America, but in Canada as long as you maintain a B average after you have been admitted you are fine. So usually people don't stress after their fall grades are in. We tend to relax unless you are doing horrible. With your GPA you are fine.
  19. SLPossible, if you don't mind me asking how do you this?
  20. Any one out there that applied to University of Central Oklahoma?
