  1. Question: Does anyone know what happens if you don't complete your research project for a CGS-M?
  2. I've been accepted to Carleton and Dal's MPA. Still haven't heard from Queen's, UofOttawa and UofT MPP.
  3. Hi, I've spend a bit of time researching already but I figured I'd ask all you fine people, just in case... Does anyone know of MPA programs that give generous aid to foreign students? Thanks! In case it helps, my details: Undergraduate institution: Top Canadian School Undergraduate GPA: 3.95 Undergraduate Majors: Political Science, with a concentration in Public Affairs and Policy Analysis Years of Work Experience: 6 Describe Relevant Work Experience: - I stopped university for a couple years to work for a political party as an organizer. I also served on the party's provincial executive for 5 years (and on the policy committee, finance committee and fundraising committees) - Worked on a number of campaigns, including as deputy provincial director at one point. - Since returning to university, I did a year as a legislative intern on Parliament Hill and have a very prestigous summer fellowship doing policy analysis in the governmental sector. Languages: Intermediate French I'm doing the GRE in a couple weeks
  4. Thanks, those were interesting readings on the differences between the programs. Any idea of a ranking? I've been told that Carleton, Dal and Queens are considered the best but haven't been able to have that confirmed in any way ...
  5. I think what you mean to say is "Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance" or in military talk, the "Ps".
  6. Hello everyone, I'm planning to apply to HKS MPP, LSE MPA and several Canadian Schools for Fall 2014 and I would love your feedback. (And I'm considering others in the US) Undergraduate institution: Top Canadian School Undergraduate GPA: 3.9+ Undergraduate Majors: Political Science, with a concentration in Public Affairs and Policy Analysis Years of Work Experience: 6 Describe Relevant Work Experience: - I stopped university for a couple years to work for a political party as an organizer. Languages: Intermediate French Letter will be excellent, one from a top professor in Canadian Public Admin., one from a senior political staffer. I have yet to take my GRE, mostly because it isn't required for some of the Canadian programs I was looking at and I only recently decided to take a shot for the moon. But I've started studying ... I feel like I am a strong candidate for the Canadian schools but would love any feedback people can give in general or about my competitiveness in terms of top US schools/LSE. I know it can be tougher for international students. Thanks in advance.
  7. This is very good advice. Maybe I should have provided additional information about my qualifications. I have a 3.9+ GPA, 6 years of political expericence and very good references ... so I'm in the range that with good GRE scores I would be probably be competitive for top US schools. But I wasn't necessarily thinking of this as a "Am I competitive?" post (I've been browsing enough of those to have a strong sense) ... I was hoping this could be a discussion on the relative merits of the various Canadian programs and experiences.
  8. Hi All, I'm currently finishing a Carleton U undergraduate degree in Political Science (focusing on Public Affairs) and am looking into grad MPA/MPP programs. Much of this board seems focused on US programs but I was thinking that I would ask if anyone has opinions or experience with Canadian programs. What do you think? Which are best? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each program? If you were accepted, what is your background and how do you like it? Thanks -K
  9. Hey everyone, Great to read your comments. After reading the forums for a while I finally made an account to post in this thread. I'm planning to apply to HKS for Fall 2014 as my dream school (I'm also applying to LSE and several Canadian Schools). I'm still not sure if I am a strong candidate and would love any feedback people can give. I know it can be tougher for international students. With any luck I'll see you all next fall. -
