no they did not tell me that but i am just supposing that if we are to be rejected , we will be notified...its not like they are cutting 2000 people...just a hand full..Plus, on that email wait list notification we received it said that they will notify people if they were unable to make an offer.....now WHEN that will happen i dont know... i guess i am just assuming for our sake and sanity it will be right away -

hello all...a few of us on the wait list were supposed to be cut this week...has anyone talked to anyone in the program or has heard anything??? I need to disconnect my internet because i have been sitting in front of this computer while my daughter is begging and crying for me to take her outside. Grad apps= me bad mother -
Hey, i have a question. So first...what does the MAPSS stand for? i see that alot of people talk about this program. I applied to the NELC program and it is the same story there. If i dont have a MA they send me there...but i already have a MA in archaeology- so does that mean i am rejected? They cant just send everyone they reject to the MAPSS program

well good luck with that!!! it sounds fascinating though. I dont have a back up plan and there is no ....museum like this around here ...I have also striked bad luck in the excavations department in turkey because most projects are not happening ORRR i missed the deadline.... So, i have lost hope for the waitlist ...its probably the first choice for most people who applied and got accepted there . do you think you will apply again next year to cotsen? -
trust me i know how you feel , but at least you have 2 acceptances! i have nothing to go by and my whole life sort of speak is hanging by a hair thin chance of hope...
-
wait...hold on....are you saying that BEFORE i get accepted i need these funds/????? Like.....if i dont have them no one will take me into a PhD program or are you saying AFTER PhD ???/

Another GRE question post (Sorry in advance!)
Daisy123 replied to Seattlestudent's topic in Anthropology Forum
yeah i got scores almost the same as yours but dont get exited by ME cuz my biggest achievement so far this cycle is getting wait listed by Cotsen. HOWEVER i was told by a university i was rejected by that they did not even LOOK at my GRE, it never came into question- problem was something completely unrelated. -
thank you everyone for the kind words. what i cant believe is that i randomly checked!!! i wrote my POI and i asked him when the results will come last week- radio silence...now i know why
-
I randomly checked the website and started reading something "we are sorry..." .....yeahhhh i am not getting in anywhere ...
-
rejected from U of Arizona....and i thought i had a great chance there...

I think what we can summarize is that 1) going to a "top " school in the right department/ subfield IS an advantage, 2) not going to a big name school will not necessarily hinder your chances of success, 3) the most important thing is what you can do with yourself when you are in a program, 4) it is important to have a POI that has a network and a name that can get you to those academic events and projects that will dictate what you can do by your self once you are out of his/her hands. Thats what i understand and believe....please feel free to add. Everyone has made great points, thank you for the inside. On the topic of competitiveness.: University of Arizona had over 200 applications, 8% were accepted, and 8 people were accepted into the sub-discipline of archaeology. -
congratulations!! i got rejected by that program so i am very happy for you!
-
I am sorry for your rejection! But look on the bright side you have two other great offers!! WHat are your research interests?

I honestly think...everyone is right. I am sure there are SOME schools that do care where their teachers graduated from. For example, my undergrad school, San Jose State University, which is not an Ivy League or anything of the sort, supposedly will only hire people from Stanford, Berkeley, and UCSC (for tenure) .... now , the way the director explained it is that these universities fit the school's research interests the best. -
i am sorry about the bad news i hope the new week will bring some positive wind
-
ahhh hahah. well have fun and tomorrow i might be drinking with you too! i really hope we get one good news at least...i have been rejected from 3 out of 7 so far and my only hope is my waitlist. What is your situation?
-
I am sooo sorry and trust me , I know how you feel. Dont over do the gin, because tomorrow you are going to have to drown your sorrows AND hang over
-
but you can apply for FAFSA! that will take care of your tuition at least!
