Who can say? Things have not been lining up like they have in previous years, unfortunately.
-
Anyone know anything about the Rice acceptance? In the past they've been notified by phone, but this was an email.

I have a hot tip for colonial americanists: learn some Canadian history. A professor of mine said they need professors at Canadian schools to teach us history.
-
Congrats fianna. What's your focus?
-
IU sounds fantastic! It's definitely very high on my list.
-
I wonder if that's true for many of these larger research schools.
-
From my limited understanding of the process, if someone declines an offer I'd imagine the next person on the list is then offered the spot. That would seem to indicate that you can move off the wait list at any time, depending on when the person declines. That being said, many will wait until the April 15 agreed upon decision deadline before declining.

That's what I've seen on all of my program pages as well. Until it says otherwise, I'll hold out some degree of hope.
-
Sorry about the misinformation. Thanks for the correction, ashiepoo.

Some have official interviews, such as Northwestern (from what I gather). Others have more informal interviews. Still others don't have any interviews. It really depends on the program.
-
And we have the second Northwestern. Congrats!

I just finished an interesting book about being a professor called "Life on the Tenure Track." Pretty good, quick read.
-
Interesting. I actually mentioned a Europeanist (Tobias Brinkmann) and Amy Greenberg. I'm also 19th Century US, though I plan on approaching it transnationally if accepted. Hope we hear from them soon.
-
I second that. Congrats!
-
JJWS, you've applied to Penn State I see. Who did you mention as possible POIs? Also, this may have been in an earlier post, but what is your focus?
-
I think the results are equal parts reassuring and maddening. They definitely increase anxiety and also give hope for admits being just around the corner.
-
It's refreshing to see many different types of stories and experiences on here. I really think this forum is coming together as some type of crazy community. In some small way it helps with the (mounting) anxiety of wait and see season. Thanks all.

I actually have a strike against my past academic history as well. I attempted a master's program in my mid twenties but due to family issues had to not complete the program. Since that time I went to a different master's program and finished with a 4.0. I didn't mention the initial program in my SOP on the advice of my LOR. Hopefully, the programs I applied to won't hold it against me.
-
Ok. So 26 = not old for sure. 34... now maybe.
-
Interesting. I didn't address any shortcomings in my SOP. Perhaps I should have... I figured better not to say anything and let them ask then to mention it. That's what my adviser recommended too.
-
I'm in the "older" bracket too, i.e. not just out of a BA program.
-
I have an infant too! He'll be one years old this month. I didn't mention him in my stuff though.
-
So from past experience, do we anticipate state schools to do two waves of admissions?
-
Hmmm getting a bit discouraged now that there are a few Minnesota and illinois. Hopefully tomorrow will bring good news
