  1. Masters or PhD UCSD is a great program. They probably have merit based scholarships through your first semester that you can cash in.
  2. Dang that sucks. You should have given the PhD programs a shot. All my acceptances were for PhD and they are fully funded. My stats arn't great either.
  3. I believe all the doctoral students are given some form of assistance that involves a full tuition waiver and a stipend. I may have that wrong for other programs though.
  4. I wonder why there isn't any buzz about Vanderbilt IMS. Their scholarly output is off the charts and for their size ,they are probably the best out there.
  5. Case is a very good school for engineering but I think Vandy is more complete as a school. Both schools are top notch, you cant go wrong with either.

Do ya'll have any ideas as to how Vanderbilt's PhD program in materials science compares with schools like case western, wustl, drexel and uconn?
  7. Applying to top schools "feels" good but if you don't give yourself several low backups you would have dug your own hole. This is regardless of GPA, GRE or anything else that may affect the admissions. But for you, it's not too late. There are schools out there with their deadlines either still open or have rolling admissions. Keep at it.
  8. I am still waiting for 6 schools. I think it's reasonable to expect at least till march 30 for the admissions to be made.
  9. It is actually quite common. Lower ranked schools , a lot of the times, screen students purely on numbers. Your application may not get reviewed beyond the GRE scores in some cases and if you get lucky may be your GPA maybe looked at. With high ranked schools, they may be willing to take the risk in students even if their GRE or GPA lower than their average applicants as long as they deem the students will excel in their program. Do bear in mind, this isn't a standard operating procedure for all high ranked or low ranked schools.
  10. Some graduate coordinators are quite the A******s , so be careful when writing to these schools. They may be arrogant enough to deny you an opportunity.
  11. Sometimes a delay would imply a clear rejection, they just haven't gotten to that stack since they are probably busy dealing with those that are accepted. I had seen this happen to a buddy of mine. As much as they may be getting a good number of inquiries from students regarding the decisions, their annoyance or ignorance of a prospective student is not acceptable. We are paying a lot of money to ensure that they take the time with every application. The schools arrogance in dealing with their applicants is not so uncommon but needless to say shouldn't make you feel dejected and opt out.
  12. I do not regret applying to more schools but I am however a little disappointed that I lost out on deadlines with Caltech , UCB and Cornell.
  13. Anyone know the status on Yale materials engineering application decisions?
  14. Alfred is part of the council of graduate schools and they need to observe the same rule as others within the council , i.e. they need to give you until april 15 to make your "accept" decision.
