  1. And there it is, the official rejection from Stanford...
  2. Yeah come on! congrats to you! come claim your praise!!
  3. I am a little perturbed this morning as I notice the Stanford rejections trickling in slowly. Why can they not inform everyone at once? Looking through the history on the boards, it appears that many people had to eventually call them to find out they were rejected or they would have never been given an official notice. Many people also voiced the same concerns that a few have this season regarding updating the ApplyWeb page. My page was never fully updated, even after sending multiple emails that were never responded too. The most expensive application, plus 2 copies of transcripts from each institution, and they don't have the courtesy to process and update? Why I am paying so much to apply then? Ridiculous! Ok vent over with. Seriously though, can I get an official rejection or what? Come on Stanford Anthro, take your foot out of your...
  4. I missed the Yale archaeology admit. Whoever that was congrats to you! Exciting!
  5. I think Columbia usually offers MA to those without. Could be why. I expect Stanford to come today and tomorrow. Like I said, I heard Stanford made 4 offers and they already know who they are. I have no info on Johns Hopkins.
  6. sorry Xstopfloating. how did you hear? email?
  7. This may or may not be true, but I heard Stanford made 4 offers. yeeks! I broke down and called them to ask if decisions had been made and the lady said yes, and that everyone had been notified if they were accepted. Like I said, take it with a grain if you will. The lady I spoke to sounded like a student, and did sound a little unsure.
  8. It's funny, they told me that my application was still under consideration and I'd know by mid March. This is what I was told today. I'm taking it to mean that I was rejected for the PhD, but I know they offer the MA. Such is the story of my application season.
  9. I wish it was me fasboo, but unfortunately I did not receive an interview. I am impatiently waiting for my rejection so I can move on. Congrats to you though, that is amazing!
  10. i'm now going to investigate... Congrats btw.
  11. fingers crossed for you! Sounds like a positive sign.
  12. Im trying to decide between the MA in Latin and Caribbean studies at Chicago, or Georgetown and waiting on Tulane for the same program. Chicago offered half tuition, Georgetown hasn't sent the official acceptance packet with offer yet, and Tulane hasn't made a decision yet. Chicago is a 9 month program with field study, then thesis write up. Georgetown and Tulane are both 2 year programs. Chicago has the faculty I want to work with for my PhD. I have a lot to mull over without the acceptance to Tulane. If that should come as well, it will make the decision harder. I suppose it will based on what I can afford, and if any TA or RA positions are available. Chicago does not have any available for my program and does not recommend working for the duration due to the intensive nature of the 9 month program. Thoughts? Oh yeah, I lived in Corvallis for a while just out of sheer fate and I loved it. Great little town!
  13. Here's the response from Columbia: "Your application is still under review. We expect that the faculty committee on admissions will return Ph.D. decisions by mid March. You will be notified via email when a decision has been reached." So I suppose it was just a generic response. The individuals who already have been accepted must have been unofficially notified by POI's I'm assuming. Not really much of a clarification, but at least it still lets me hold out a little hope.
  14. I'll be doing a Masters it looks like, but is it strange that I'm so excited for everyone who got accepted into programs? Lol. After watching everyone bleed emotion and anxiety, it is refreshing to see people achieve what they wanted. On the flip side, I also feel for those who were shut out. I found myself rooting for people. Anyhow, I know I'll be on the boards since I'll be applying again after the MA. Good luck to all, hopefully since my concentration in LAS is a cultural focus, I will be allowed to attend the SAA's and AAA's.
  15. Couldn't you conceivably take debt the first year but apply for fellowships and grants this fall and get funding for next year? I know this sounds risky, but I was just throwing it out there. Also, what are the chances that after working with the faculty for the year on loans, that you would be considered for departmental funding the following year?
  16. Historically, it looks as though tomorrow will be rejection day for Stanford. Yippee! Rejection makes Mondays so much more eventful.
  17. Excellent, I'll wear a Big Lebowski shirt. haha.
  18. Who's excited for tomorrow's True Detective though???!!!?? <-------This guy right here! Oh yeah, welcome Hula-hoop!!
  19. DigDeep, Thanks for all the help you've provided to the forums as well! I just wanted to say, that you should pop back in every now and again to offer any valuable information you've gathered along the way. I'm sure you'll be busy, but I know everyone here now and in the future will benefit from those who have experienced the process. That being said, good luck to you! <though i'm sure you wont need it>
  20. Awesome! congrats xstopfloating!
  21. I've been shut out of all PhD's I applied too, so I figured I didn't have much to lose in contacting Columbia. In any case, we'll see if they respond. I just couldn't wait any longer. I've been up all night studying, then the power went out this morning and I couldn't make coffee. I left and went to campus a few hours early for coffee and last minute studying. It must be the exhaustion that got to me... hehe.
  22. Well it may not have been very smart, but I just emailed Columbia GSAS and asked when we can expect to be notified. I'm guessing it won't matter much in the decision making process. lol. From what I gathered from the forum they have already notified, I just wanted to confirm... I shall keep everyone in the loop
  23. Sorry magiaepasta, at least you have two really good acceptances! Still a bummer though.
  24. did I miss who claimed the Yale acceptance? Congrats!
  25. I spent one winter in Wyoming when I was younger and it was snowy and cold, but other than that, I have lived in California and gotten used to weather. Something like Chicago is going to be a shock to the system!
