  1. nyu social psych had interviews last weekend. i think cognition and perception is having 2 interview weekends - 2/15 to 2/17 and 2/22 to 2/24
  2. I think an alternative course of action is to read one or two of your potential advisor's theoretical papers. Those are papers where the researcher, rather than discussing a single study or a single series of studies, will offer some theoretical explanation for a phenomenon of interest. These papers are more general and often help in offering what a researcher's position on a given area or phenomenon is. If you're having trouble spotting papers of this sort in your potential advisor's publication list, it's possible that this researcher hasn't written a paper of this sort (especially if this research is a junior faculty member). If you want to DM me your potential advisor's name, I could have a look myself and send you what I think is your best bet. The reason why I think this is a good idea is that it gives you a general area to talk about, and its some thing about which you probably have some views of your own. Discussions of this kind are also less likely to require technical expertise.
  3. Just a heads up. UCLA updated the interview schedule on it's application instructions page for all areas, excluding Behavioral Neuroscience, Cognitive, and Learning & Behavior: INTERVIEW SCHEDULE FOR FALL 2018 ADMISSION: Social Area: January 19 - 20, 2018 Clinical Area: February 1 - 2, 2018 Developmental Area: February 2 - 3, 2018 Health Area: February 9, 2018 Behavioral Neuroscience, Cognitive, and Learning & Behavior Areas: To Be Announced Quantitative Area: Individually Scheduled With Applicants
  4. It's an interview to inform recruitment weekend invites. Good luck!
  5. I think the faculty in NYU's Cognition and Perception department are still making decisions about in-person invites. I have a phone call with one of the faculty members on the 9th, so I'd imagine the deadline for submitting candidate names for their recruitment weekend will be some time shortly thereafter.
  6. It's likely that your potential advisor has had or has arranged similar phone conversations with a few other candidates and will invite the candidate(s) he like(s) best to his department's recruitment day / weekend. I think that's how these pre-interview phone calls typically work.
  7. Just wanted to send an update about Northwestern: The interview invites for Cognitive Psychology with go out around Monday. So, if you applied to Northwestern and haven't received an interview invite, it's still possible that the administration will send you an interview invite next week. Perhaps the only official invites that have gone out are for Social Psychology.
  8. This is relevant to anyone applying to UCLA. I emailed the graduate administrator about my GRE scores being listed as "awaiting" rather than "received", and I received this response. I hope it eases some concerns.: The UCLA Graduate Division has informed the UCLA Psychology Department that the application status in the UCLA Graduate Division application is not yet linked to display test scores and documents received from external sources such as official transcripts, letters of recommendation, etc. Therefore, all applications submitted to the UCLA Psychology Department will not indicate whether official GRE General and/or Subject Test Scores, official TOEFL/IELTS Test Scores, official transcripts, letters of recommendation, etc. have been received by the Department. Our Psychology Graduate Admissions Committee has begun reviewing applications. We will be contacting applicants directly if we need any missing materials such as official transcripts, official GRE General and/or Subject test scores, official TOEFL/IELTS Test Scores, letters of recommendation, etc.
