  1. I love the way most of these answers are either really good for you, or really, really bad for you.
  2. Infinite series (new personal minigame: make every answer mathematical XD)
  3. Haha thanks! I thought it would fit this forum. That's a good point! I won't read too much into it. I'd like to think this isn't abnormal. Maybe when I do contact her, I'll ask if she wants to meet in-person since I'm in the area anyway? And thanks! It was a weird kind of application, kind of an automatic acceptance, but I still count it as a success, lol. EDIT: Typos, and I added a few words for flow. Stupid phone posts
  4. Bloody Sunday
  5. Oh man, I might have to write a browser plugin... On the plus side, it would take up some of my time!
  6. I don't even think it's weird to ask, never mind inappropriate, especially if you've been in-contact! Definitely email them. My cousin applied to a program with rolling admission and called to ask what the weaknesses in her application were. They said nothing, really, and that she should just apply earlier the next year. With that advice, she got into the program the year following! But even if your situation's different, it probably can't hurt to ask, and it can be a huge source of relief when you get an informed second opinion about your application!

  8. ...when a school allows you to apply to two separate PhD programs, and you forgot what one of them is called. x_x "What'd you apply to CMU for?" "Computer science!" "Cool! Which program?" "...Science!"
  9. I looked into previous years' responses. It looks like a big push for PhD replies is February (but not necessarily all done in the same week), then a push for master's comes in March, then a cleanup (rejections and acceptances of what I assume are waitlisted admissions) in early April for both kinds of degrees. I should be doing homework...

  12. Head trip
  13. Congratulations, tchaikovsky! Guess I'll just sit and wait patiently, then. I'm excited about this school for a million reasons... If I don't get in this time, I'll probably apply again in 2 years when I have my master's!
  14. Running gag
  15. Chicken wings
  16. Play offs
  17. What if there's something that makes him say "abandon ship!" You might not be able to tell you're going to like a school, but there are definitely signs that you're going to HATE it. EDIT: This isn't the only reason to go, but it is a good one! Anyway, you can't begrudge someone for wanting to make the most informed decision possible in times like these.
  18. I've only seen one person post of their results for UCSD. Has anyone heard anything? Am I just crazy impatient? It's my first choice school, in the sense that I don't expect to get into anywhere else... I think I just need the final blow to my ego at this point, or the boost if I get in! The tic-tac-toe of rejections is starting to get to me. EDIT: I ask because I'm not sure how many people on this forum applied to UCSD. If I'm the only one on thegradcafe who really cares about this school, I'll stop looking here for information about it.
  19. Plus, it's cool to have a paid trip, which a lot of universities do. I almost applied to UCSB for an excuse to visit lol!
  20. Congratulations!!! One thing I love about this site is the good news! It's awesome to cheer for people
  21. Nuclear power
  22. You can contact them and ask. You might be implicitly waitlisted, which is much better than a straight rejection! Or the message might not have gotten across for some reason. It won't hurt to ask!
  23. ...when you see someone with lower scores and less research experience get into your top choice program on the results page, then get your hopes up only to be rejected later that week. x_x It's awkward because I didn't think I stood a chance at all until I saw that reported result! That'll teach me to ever have hope. Lol To be fair, people way more qualified than me also got rejected! Fit matters.
  24. Poor people
