  1. I also got my UCLA rejection today, along with my USD rejection. UNC is doing this thing where it acts like a frat boy pretending he never liked me... so I have to assume that is a rejection as well. Sad, yes, but I'll keep moving onward. This means it is time to pack up my bulldog, whatever else I can fit in my car and head west. I know I'll be seeing some of you out there and to everyone else, break 'em! Don't let them break you...
  2. This thread is making me want to get more tatts!! LOVE the Mucha and the Guernica sleeve is briliant... makes me want to know whose arm that is. I have definitely thought about a significant art piece inked somewhere... but nothing's clicked yet. I can never get something simply because I like the way it looks; it has to have a personal significance, you know?
  3. Theseus, beautiful! I have zero going on right now, well, I'm doing a staged reading next week, but I'm so terrible I don't even remember what play. It's for a local theatre; a friend just asked me last minute. That's how consumed I've been with this grad school process... I had no problem maintaining (TOO) busy during application/audition time, but this waiting thing makes me want to just stare at my email/phone 20 hours a day and do nothing else. I did Our Town a couple months ago (Emily) and then Trouble in Pantoland (Snow White ) after. Do you get a lot/any film work down there? It seems there has been a lot picking up in that area in terms of film/TV... whenever I get into a conversation with someone in the business about relocating (to LA, typically) , that area and "the south" in general always come up. I always feel, though, that in terms of location filmimg, they cast in LA (or NY) for the primaries and then have day players/extras/reccurring roles cast locally.
  4. Button, I'm so sorry, but remember we're all in this together! Unfortunately, many more of us will receive that letter than receive the phone call. We all know USD loves to see people try and try again, so don't give up! This business is all about perseverance; let 'em know you're not going anywhere! Thank you so much for keeping us updated!
  5. Hah, sorry. From reading your last post I thought you were Native. My bad. Yea, generally speaking a NA tattoo on a non-NA is a bad idea. Never well received. Also, though, I had a TOTALLY different understanding of what the Ghost Dance was and how it was received... Wovoka, right? He was a prophet. He predicted the second comming of Christ and gave the people the ghost dance to inspire hope. I mean, I know each tribe gave it their own meaning, really, but there was no negative energy associated with it; except for the white people.
  6. So, what I think is a really good option is buying fresh ingredients to make something that will last a little while in the fridge. Like... butternut or acorn squash, carrots, turnips, apples... squash in the microwave for a few minutes, then put everything on a cookie sheet, sprinkle with EVOO maybe some salt, pepper, cinnamon, roast for 10 min.s heat up some chicken broth put all the roasted stuff in a blender with a couple pieces of ginger, pour into the chicken broth and there's soup for the week! Last Sunday I made some turkey chilli which is basically turkey, tomatoes, peppers, onions, a little bit of garlic, and spices and, again, good for the week! It's an inexpensive and easy option that is also healthy. I think the most important thing is not eating anything processed. What, 70% of our immune system is in our gut? People don't realize the damage they do by ingesting all the chemicals in the majority of our food. It's why there's so much food allergies now a days... and cancer, and most other illnesses as well. I mean, I'm not a nut about it... I just ate an entire pack of graham crackers... but starting TOMORROW, no more processed food. Startiiiiing... now!
  7. Did you grow up on the rez? What kind of tattoo would you get honoring the Ghost Dance? With all the non-Natives sporting "native" ink these days, I'm curious to know what kind of a design someone who is actually native and honoring their culture would get. With such a rich culture and colorful (to say the least) history, there is soooooo much potential for some incredible ink, but of course, whenever you try and search for "native tattoos", well.... you know what kind of results turn up. Are there cultural taboos against culturally significant tattoos? Like, if someone were to get something referencing wounded knee... would that be seen as disrespectful?
  8. Tomorrow... feeling good.

Yes! Hopefully good news for you tomorrow!

  9. BTW, Unaware, have you heard anything from UNC? I know you said they made offers... I think you said that? But have they contacted you in any way? I've actually tried to contact the department twice now... no response. From reading the results page and past posts it does seem like the university itself has a reputation for lack of communication with applicants.
  10. Yes! I was going to ask the same thing in regards to posting your acceptances/rejections. Make it maybe a little less stressful for those applying next year. I'm so glad this was a resource for everybody; thanks for keeping it going!
  11. I attended Eugene Lang (The New School for Liberal Arts), in which students are allowed to customize their own field of study. Really, one could choose to follow the typical, more focused form of study, or explore more alternative modes of study. I was probably somewhere in the middle. I think I probably took around 3 tests throughout the 4 years there, never one science course, nor math, nor English for that matter. Only courses required for my concentration (Culture and Media), and then whatever the hell else I wanted to take. I'm sure I learned more in those four years than the collective 26 of my life. That being said, it definitely didn't prepare me for one specific line of work. Most people in my class either went into film or graduate school in hopes of teaching/working in the school. I think the school's aim is not so much dedicated to making students professionals in a certain line of work, rather than making them activists in any line of work.
  12. Hey! Thanks for the update and congrats again on your acceptance!! I am curious to know if you've heard from UCLA? Still nothing over here...
  13. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can....

  14. Billy Joel and Jimmy Fallon's "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" has no fuckin' idea how happy it just made me.

  15. There's now a hole in the sweater I wore to my UCLA audition. I was cleaning out my clothes recently and went to throw it in the "goes" pile. Couldn't do it. I'll keep it forever even if I shouldn't get it. Something to remember what a great experience this all has been.
  16. Be strong, believe.

  17. Am I alone in feeling the film "Stranger than Fiction" is drastically underrated...?

I'll go watch it later this week. Thanks for reminding me! I love the premise :)

  18. You ask, why? I ask, why not...?

  19. I like that.
  20. Haha... I am NOT giving in that easily. Not over 'til it's over. Keep thinking good thoughts.
  21. Thank you sooooo much for your response! I feel a little less crazy now for wanting to do this. If you don't mind me asking, about how much did the drive cost you? And how many days did it take? I am planning on using motel 6 due to their pet policy, but do you think I should make reservations before I leave and stick to a driving schedule that accomodates? Or should I just locate them along the way whenever I'm ready to stop? I kind of want to just wing it and locate them on the way, but I don't know how concerned I should be about them being at capacity or not being open if I stop at 3am or not being able to locate one anywhere in the area I find myself in.
  22. I'm sure they've made offers at this point. I'm waiting on them and two other schools as well. I'm assuming this is the stage where they have made offers and are now waiting for responses before making their next move. I know it seems late, but sometimes people don't hear until April, especially in USD's case.
  23. Hoping, praying, hoping, praying, hoping, praying, hoping, praying.

  24. Obviously I meant "incredible"... and I can't figure out how to edit. Ugh... my mind has succumbed to the stress.
