  1. Redlands is in a pretty nice area, close to the mountains that separate the Inland Empire and the desert. It's about 2 hours east of LA in the suburbs, so cheap housing!
  2. https://m.facebook.com/groups/754335638013096 A Facebook group for us I just created. Everyone join!
  3. I'll create one! Where have you found your roommates?
  4. @slpPLS - are you planning on living alone or having roommates? I would love to live alone, but don't think I can spend that much lol.
  5. They have such little presence, that even after visiting them in person, I still can't think of much of a unique reason to go there.
  6. I think it depends on what you want to do as a career. Since I am interested in research as well as clinical practice, I'd choose Dallas over Pacific. Plus, they are actually cheaper even though I'm out of state for Dallas (I got some money as well). Also they have research opportunities, which are nonexistent in Pacific. But Pacific has such a short program… Also, I'm going to Dallas so you definitely want to go there! XD
  7. If memory serves, they are extremely clinical based, and don't specialize in any particular field. Locally, UoP is seen as a good option, comparable to the other options (in NorCal, those options are the public cal states). In fact, I'd consider UoP better than the Cal States, but this is partially due to my UC snobbery. They have placements all over the area, and in the Bay/far Northern California. And you're going to love living here! Today stockton has a high of 72 degrees.
  8. Makes sense. Another option is CSU Dominguez Hills. It's apparently a bit longer, but designed for working students, so maybe they'd offer classes fewer times a week and on evenings/weekends to save on commuting? I'm just concerned that CSULA is competitive, so it's good to have backups.
  9. The only parts of CA that are expensive are the SF Bay and greater LA. Stockton is seen as the Detroit of CA. Though I've been to Stockton and uop with no problems, I would still live in Elk Grove or North Stockton. As for loan forgiveness, I *think* you have to work in a low income school for some time. UoP itself should have more info on this. The campus is beautiful and all of the buildings are new. Plus you'll be close to this: http://youtu.be/yunwTSfbAyI
  10. Also, from their info sessions, UoP does not fund. They essentially claim that they don't need to since their program is so short, and there are loan forgiveness programs.
  11. Native Californian here: cost of living in stockton is incredibly cheap, compared to anywhere in the SF Bay. Stockton is a suburb of sacramento (which is a cooler area than stockton imo). Stockton isn't exactly the best city, but north Stockton, Elk Grove are inexpensive safe cities. They are boring suburbia though…
  12. From what I know, CSULA highly values GPA, so you have good chances of admission. But why specifically CSULA? Have you looked into Fullerton (if you're tied to the LA area)?
  13. This is amazing information! Thank you, and I hope you get accepted!
  14. Thanks! I'll definitely check it out! I find that looking for housing is overwhelming because it drives home that undergrad is over and now I'm a graduate student!
  15. I'm starting in the fall. One of the professors recommended taking a break, and I'm hoping to go and spend a lot of time with relatives. Speaking of housing, does anyone have any leads on that?
  16. A few people on the UTD thread have not heard from that school.
  17. Maybe they should send acceptances by telegram, rejections by semaphore, and waitlists by smoke signal. THATS old-fashioned lol.
  18. Thank you so much for the detailed description of the program! The dedicated, personable faculty, individualized attention, research commitment, and urban location is exactly what I am looking for in a program.
  19. I am so glad I don't know your classmates. Do they not realize how hard it is to get into grad school? It's not like applying to undergrad, where decent grades and extracurriculars will get you into a fine college. The way I see it, from November to January, while your classmates are scrambling to take the GRE, write essays, get letters, and balance class work, you'll be much calmer, given all of the research you have done. And this time next year, you'll have more acceptances than your friends. It all gets better!
  20. I made a spreadsheet about program details, length, application deadlines, etc and I have sent it to everyone I know. They all find it helpful, not stressful. There's just so much info and no one who has compiled it...
  21. I have informally accepted UTD! Even if I had other acceptances, I would have chosen Dallas anyway.
  22. Tomorrow, it's going to be sunny and 75 in NorCal. I now see why it's impossible to get into grad school here.
