  1. I like www.zotero.org/ -- it's free, supports tagging and resides in the browser (one click to download and it can also save webpages easily). You need Firefox though, so if you're using Safari on your Mac you'll have to switch.
  2. None that I know off-hand (I'm into cog psych), but a quick google search does bring up the student listserv for spsp. http://groups.google.com/group/spsp-announce/topics You have to sift through the entries, but I do see a few postings for full-time research assistant/ lab coordinator type jobs.
  3. I've got some links that might be helpful: http://www.cognitive..._assistant.html http://www.psych.mcg...aElsewhere.html http://www.columbia....ortunities.html http://talkingbrains...fellowship.html http://www.socialpsy...er.htm#listings http://www.cogs.indi...cogsci/res.html
  4. I hope so. I'm actually looking forward to finally having four seasons instead of being either hot or wet all the time. Have you visited MSU? I'm a little worried cos I accepted without going for their interview day -- did everything over skype. I just started looking at craigslist and the MSU classifieds (http://www.allmsu.com/), but haven't got down to any serious house hunting yet. Any idea where's good to stay? Seems like most of the grad students live off-campus, but I'm not planning on getting a car, so I'm hoping there are good options either walking distance or on the bus route.
  5. Me! I'm in for a psychology PhD. I'm excited, but it's going to be sooooo cold...
  6. Yes, I would wait until I get an official email or letter.
  7. Yes. March has been scarily quiet so far. Please please please let everything be mostly settled before April.
  8. Anyone else in and thinking of going? I'm really thinking of taking up their offer, but I'm not too sure how MSU fares in terms of prestige (I know it's the top place for I/O, but haven't got a clue for the other sub-fields). Any idea how this might affect job prospects later on? Also, are you guys going to wait to get ALL your responses in before accepting? I didn't have any first choices when I began, but I've had great contact with them and hardly any word from the rest of my schools except a couple of rejections. I'm expecting a few more rejections and maybe one waitlist, so now I'm not sure if I should just give up hope from the rest or continuing waiting it out.
  9. I look forward to moving out of my parent's place. Finally!
  10. I totally get the feeling. I wouldn't say I'll stop visiting the forum entirely, but I'll be so glad when I don't need to obsess over the results page anymore.
  11. I don't think it means anything, they are probably just busy. If you really need an answer urgently, you could try calling them, or maybe emailing your POIs?
  12. Hmm... were your friends interviewed before March? Or were they just notified of acceptances then? Now I'm wondering if there are schools which don't interview, because it seems like most cog psych programs do.
  13. This. I've got one acceptance that I think is pretty solid, but now that I have it, I'm just hoping for one more so I have a CHOICE. Maybe I'm too greedy, but please oh please, just give me one more acceptance and I'll be forever happy and stop wishing for more. I promise!
  14. Yay -- we finally have a cog psych thread for this year! Anyone have any news from these schools? Indiana: POI said I'm on his shortlist, but then nothing after that, not even an interview... Maryland: Nothing CMU social and decision sciences: Nothing WashU: Nothing, probably implicit rejection since the invites were out early on the results board
  15. Congrats! That's such a nice coincidence. All the best for the interview
  16. I actually think it might lighten their workload. If they posted regular updates and if most of us applicants read them here, they should get less emails or calls from anxious applicants inquiring about their application status, which would require individual replies! Or not. Well... I guess I can still fantasize
  17. I do have an acceptance but don't think I'm cured yet. Waiting on the other schools still gives me the jitters, though at least I can say I've begun treatment and have taken the first step to recovery...
  18. I'm an international from Southeast Asia, and completely empathize. It was quite challenging to get research experience, especially in my areas of interest because (1) my country is small so there's just less opportunities for research in general; (2) fields like engineering and bioscience are valued much more than psychology (which is considered "soft"); and (3) I was part of the first intake of psychology students in my university and it took forever for projects to get going because the infrastructure (lab space and paperwork) wasn't in place. Still, I figure that even if a POI or ad-com understands that access to research may be more difficult for us, it does make sense for them to accept someone that has demonstrated experience their stated area of interest, all else being equal. So I guess we can just try to get whatever experience we can get and hope for the best!
  19. Ooh... wait, there's this list: 1 Stanford University 2 University of Michigan--Ann Arbor 3 Yale University 4 University of California--Los Angeles 5 University of Minnesota--Twin Cities 6 University of Pennsylvania 7 University of California--Berkeley 8 Carnegie Mellon University 9 Washington University in St. Louis 10. Cornell University 11 University of Wisconsin--Madison 12 Columbia University 13 University of Texas--Austin 14 Indiana University Bloomington 15 University of Virginia 16 Ohio State University--Columbus 17 University of Oregon 18 University of Colorado--Boulder 19 Northwestern University 20 University of North Carolina--Chapel Hill 21 University of Massachusetts Amherst 22 Duke University 23 Rutgers University 24 University of Rochester 25 Johns Hopkins University 26 Purdue University--West Lafayette 28 University of Iowa 28 University at Buffalo, SUNY 29 Vanderbilt University 30 Stony Brook University 31 University of Florida 32 University of Southern California
  20. Ditto. That seems like the only list around so far, and I'd love to get my hands on a more comprehensive version.
  21. If you're applying to clinical programs, this is the best thread for updates: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=679923
  22. I've been checking that every now and then too -- mine's still blank. Heh, who am I kidding? I check on that each day and it's still blank! Yes, so thanks for asking, at least now I'm certain it's not just me
  23. If your end goal is to go into consulting rather than research, you might want to look at Organizational Behavior programs in Business Schools rather than go into social or personality psychology programs which have less of an applied focus. Also think that one of the major theories in I/O is PE-fit (Person-Environment fit), which looks at how personality traits match with environmental demands like job scope and organizational culture to influence things like job performance and satisfaction. So I wouldn't really say that I/O lacks aspects in human behavior and personality --to me, it seems like a very large part of it. Do note that I'm recalling this off-hand and not very well versed in this area, so I/O folks -- feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on this.
