  1. did the email specify whether the applicants were to the phd or to the MA? gee i'd LOVE a tuition remission to the MA-- im not even asking for a stipend!
  2. she said they had "a lot" of applications. shock of the century.
  3. lmao this made my day which was shitty otherwise. where do you go if you don't mind my asking? (you can pm me as to not give things away!)
  4. that's odd. the peppy girl who answered the phone said the committee was still meeting. maybe this means there's a different MA committee or they're deciding on final candidates. i'm sorry to hear that though! i got the boot today from uconn.
  5. hey w2010-- when did you hear from u-mass amherst? do you have any info (haha, sorry!) or wanna share your stats? you can send me a PM if so. thanks & best of luck w the rest of your admissions journey!

  6. brandeis said they're still making decisions. at least a couple of weeks. i applied to the MA.
  7. ahhh :( when did you graduate undergrad? i am the department darling x1000 hahaha. i find it amusing now, though.

  8. i feel extremely hopeless rejected @ the MA program @ a school ranked #71. hmph.

  9. i'm feeling masochistic and calling all of my schools to find out when theyre notifying but since they're all on the east coast i'm sure they're all in the midst of paralyzing snow storms and hence, unreachable

  10. hey this was from uconn. i'm rejected to the MA as well which is really painful.

  11. the letter is dated feb 16th. says i'm rejected to the MA and MA/PhD and it does "not necessarily reflect badly on the nature" of my qualifications but they have many highly qualified applicants. it's a pretty nice hand signed letter, but i don't feel too good about my chances anywhere.
  12. anyone else just get rejected from uconn? and it says im rejected from the MA and MA/PhD #71 on the rankings. really?
  13. Lolita is AWESOME! I'm currently reading "Sarajevo Blues" - Semezdin Mehmedinovic for class... couldn't get through Herta Muller's "The Land of Green Plums" :X but will attempt to finish it for class. On my personal list, I started Jonathan Safran Foer's "Everything Is Illuminated" and I'm eyeing Ralph Ellison's "Invisible Man" on my desk!
  14. someone has also received one by phone!
  15. sure why not. 680 verbal, abysmal subject test but they didn't req it. 3.94 gpa from honors program. that's about it for numbers.
  16. haha woolfie just a TON of apps.
  17. i'm debating between two MA's should i get rejected all around (including the other more top-tier MA's i've applied to). one is a city school with links to a phd program and one is a terminal-MA at my undergrad institution. sigh.
  18. all my professors think i've received rejections/a summoning to the electric chair by my demeanor as well. haha. and the fact that i group rejections in with the electric chair speaks volumes on its own.
  19. tortola... i see you've applied to penn state too. some strange things going on there this year!
  20. ahh you think it's more likely in or waitlist if not rejected yet?? i was thinking i'd be a large waitlist candidate-- good scores and excellent GPA and recs but not sure about the other parts of my application.
  21. anyone like me, sitting on 10+ NOTHINGS?! only one or two of my schools have notified (not me), no letters, emails, phone calls or anything acknowledging my existence in this world. i even got up the courage to call 2 of my schools today- one is probably snowed in and the other just isn't answering i am going from hopefulJ to hopeLESSj but quickly. </endrant>. and i'm beginning to wish i applied to the midwest/west coast. they at least get back to people!
  22. congrats! i'm waiting to hear back from their MA program. my undergrad honors thesis is on chaucer
  23. i'm afraid to ask most of my programs. yet i'm sitting on 0 acceptances and 0 rejections. so, neutral i guess.
  24. i didn't get this email but early april is really late.
