  1. I have a colleague that applied as well and he hasn't heard anything. I had an interview when I home in Mass back in December. I think I read either on here or the results page that someone else had skyped/interviewed with their POI about 2 weeks ago and said they would be making decisions this week. How accurate that is - No idea. But hopefully, we'll hear soon. I know that my portal for UIC still says applied even though I got my acceptance letter last monday. So maybe they are calling?
  2. I haven't heard from them, I think they're still reviewing apps. at least that is what a friend of mine said who's in the program.
  3. Jumping on the bandwagon, I know Chicago is a queer friendly city, but is there any advice where to live based on that information? where not to got? etc. Thanks!
  4. I got accepted to University of Illinois at Chicago!
  5. I’m a finalist for Emory! I’m pretty psyched
  6. Yeah for sure, that’s great that you got an update like that!
  7. @bioarch_fan currently attends Mississippi State, thought they are in a different sub field, they could talk more about the dept @GameofLoans16
  8. You could also see if you could present the job with the PhD offers and see if they could do something comparable. I’m not sure how that would work but you could see if they would so a special admissions type thing. Just a thought
  9. @EvelynD I would think just a general outline of your progression in fieldwork and research, like “I plan to apply for field research grants and work in the field every summer for 2 months; initial field research would allow me to decide the best field setting and build rapport”. Something like that? Obviously a little more formal, haha, but that is the best I can think of.
  10. I did to all but 2 ( since the deadline was 1 Jan) to let them know my application was in and to show that I cared enough beyond our conversations to make an effort to inform them. Whether it helps, I’m not sure but it doesn’t hurt. It yeah to echo @GreenEyedTrombonist And @bioarch_fan it puts your heir mind when reviewing to at least keep an eye out for it.
  11. Thanks! Yeah, I would - I’ve had a few before the application was due. I think it helps because it can narrow down who is actually interested in working with the prof or who is eager to actually meet even if it was just a skype interview. UMass is definitely top 3, especially after my interview.
  12. Great! I actually found doing that opened up a lot of programs and interesting collaborations!
  13. Hey that was me - I submitted my app 13 Dec so about a month before. I emailed my POI and we set up a meeting when I was back in Massachusetts (my family lives about 40 mins west of Amherst). My POI considered it an interview since we talked about the program, doctoral research, etc. I wouldn’t think to much of it though, My poi said that they won’t start reveiwing until a week after so to make sure all the documents are in.
  14. @EvelynD yeah I understand. I typically look at the courses too. Some of the schools that I applied to I had to frame my statement in how my POIs interest in “d” fits with my interest in “g”. I think each time I came back to theoretical alignment than geographical at some schools.
  15. As of right now no, I think my POIs said they’d get in contact after the new year due to the uni being closed. I think first week or so for interviews. I do know they don’t always interview too so I guess it depends what’s going on internally etc. Thanks! Id say submit because it will be a wide net of programs.
  16. I am so happy that all of my applications have been submitted - now the dreaded wait....
  17. @waltzforzizi William and Mary would be a great school too to look at for PhD, UGA, BOston U, SUNY Albany, Penn State, umm I’m sure there are others too that would be possible. I know UMass Boston has an MA in historical archaeology
  18. We have quite a few international students in the program so you could reach out the DGS and see if you can get into contact with them and ask what they’re doing, etc.
  19. Hi @scatomancer, check out GSU. There is funding available for the masters students and 2 professors that focus in medical Anthropology - Cassie white and Steven black.
  20. More or less yeah hahaha. it’s all over the place tbh so I would take a mental health break for a month and come back haha. I remember I would check it literally every 10 mins or so for an update. This, of course, was and still is not healthy ha
  21. Oh cool, who are you applying to work with there? I didn’t know there was faculty with your article interest.
  22. No worries, yeah I contacted them and then my POIs set up interviews with me before I applied and talked about projects etc. Brown should be after since that’s what they told me. Some programs don’t interview so it’s a wide range haha
  23. @phyanth I had to cut one of my SOPs from 1400 to 1000 so I feel your pain. Ultimately I got it down to 995 and shed tears of joy haha. Don’t worry, you’ll get it. It also helps to have another pair of eyes on it to catch mistakes and extraneous wording. Last year when I applied, I had an interview in October and then one in December. This year, I’ve had interviews beginning mid November and had my most recent like a week ago. Brown told me that they would contact me after I submitted my application to set up a time to chat.
