  1. I mean how much more could I have conveyed in my confidence ? My SOP was looked at by two professors in my department, one of which, my advisor, sits on the admissions committee here. My SOP basically explained what my current research was about and what my interests are. True I've been in doubt because of the GRE but can you blame me for being worried ? As you said it's the lowest score you've seen and its putting me in danger at all of my schools (again I'm confident that I'll get into at least one). I know at this point I sound like a broken record about the GRE and how it's horrible and the bane of my existence Blah blah blah but I do feel that I'm a strong applicant. I would've put in my application that the GRE does not reflect my abilities and that I have a history of doing poorly on standardized tests but my advisor told me not to. I still feel like that would've helped me at least a little bit I could be wrong though
  2. That or they have some really good connections. I'm not that disappointed in Stanford my POI just got hired as a new faculty and will probably be setting his lab up for the first year which might retard my research/graduation. I really want to get into one of the Texas schools though. Besides all the oil connections and everything the guys down there are cute haha jk sorry after last night I had to
  3. No I agree I believe I'll get into at least one. I mean be honest with me besides my GRE how strong is my application ?
  4. There's actually someone I know who scored a 140 in one of his sections but he didn't wind up applying. Also someone got into Princeton with scores very similar to mine, granted he did better in quantitative and I did better on the writing. thanks for the rooting though !
  5. In regards to VT James and I along with on other applicant still have no decisions on our applications. I think they're waiting for someone to turn down a TA position then one of us will get it.
  6. Does anyone remember when we were in hs and we were told that getting into a competitive school as a grad student is easier then getting into as an undergrad. Anybody think that still holds up ? Because I don't
  7. 2 yrs I was also a lab tech for a little bit as well. I started doing volunteer research my sophomore year in biology then it moved to geology and eventually my thesis. As undergrads how much research are we expected to actually have ?
  8. Yes I understand that but I really thought I had a unique application. Aside from everything I just said, my POIs from Wisconsin and A&M were former students of my current thesis advisor. The problem at A&M was that she couldn't take on any new students so I had to mention I wanted to work with someone else as well. She's going to look into what the other professor had in mind for me. Also I'm not really interested in a PhD I just really want a masters. I'll shut up too me ******** about the GRE isn't going to get me in anywhere but I have to say it feels good letting everything out
  9. Plus I was even told by people on this forum that I should still apply to these programs regardless of GRE scores. I even suggested that I just apply to the less competitive programs like Nebraska but they told me that would be unwise.
  10. My advisor told me to. I have a very strong application besides my GRE score. 3.8 GPA with two science majors and a minor from one of the top geology programs in the country along with a senior thesis. It really makes me sick that the GRE took all of this away and yes I understand that these schools have a lot of applicants but they should not have a cutoff for the GRE the ETS even says so on their website. And I know how this sounds but I really shouldn't have to lower my standards because of one part of the application. I mean I said this multiple times but o did horrible on the ACT and still did very well in college.
  11. My POI at Wisconsin, Nebraska and Rice have funding but my POIs at VT and UMass don't. In all honesty how common is it to get rejected just based on GREs. I mixed things about this. Also idoci, I highly doubt I have a learning disability, you can look at my stats on the first page of this topic I just suck at standardize tests. I got a 4 on the writing which is decent I just bombed the verbal and math section
  12. I think my GRE is what killed my chances of getting into Stanford even though my POI didn't even mention it and said he was very impressed with my application. It sucks to because Graf school admissions claims to be less number heavy then undergrad but in reality I think it really comes down to fit and funding really. Two of my so called "safety schools" don't have funding so the only school I think at this point that I have a shot at is Nebraska. Highly doubt rice will take me, GRE score, and highly doubt Wisconsin will too. I do not want to reapply this whole process cost me close to a thousand dollars and a lot of time. So you can see why I would be extremely agitated not getting in anywhere because of a stupid test score. I have very little hope at this point and with graduation in two months with no grad school or job offers I don't know what I'll do.
  13. I disagree I found out a lot my emailing my POIs but I've talked to them already in the past. We're almost in March so I don't think that it will do any harm
  14. Yes and basically the situation with me at Texas A&M is complicated but my POI at Stanford basically said he doesn't think he'll be able to give me a spot. Well that's 5 schools out of 8 where I have little to not a single chance of acceptance.
  15. Maybe you should shoot your POIs emails ? That's what I did
  16. I basically just got a rejection notice from my POI at Stanford who said that he doesn't think he'll be able to give me a spot. He said that he and the other faculty members were impressed with my application...........so why not give me a spot ? 5 schools now are very close to rejecting me this isn't going well at all :/
  17. No not from UT :/ and James both of us are probably wait listed let me know if you hear anything !
  18. Texas A&M apparently made offers to their top candidates.......this is for oceanography
  19. My school doesn't notify people if they've been wait listed. They do send out rejections though
  20. Yes a couple of people heard back from some of my schools
  21. Still haven't heard anything should I be worried at this point ?
  22. I got an email from UMass they haven't looked at applications yet but they should be making decisions within the next two weeks
  23. I emailed my advisor today lets see what he says !
  24. No they'll probably just say that once a decision is made you'll be notified. I spoke to my advisor and he emailed a couple of my POIs. The two he spoke to so far their committees didn't even meet yet. Well, at least with one of them I'm not sure about the other. He thinks I was waitlisted for VT but he was kind of surprised that I didn't get notified yet from anybody
  25. I think it would just be easier on him if they don't wait until April to send out rejections
