  1. Says the geophysicist haha but seriously those skills can probably make you more marketable
  2. Also did you ask your POI about a waiting list for TA positions
  3. Are you going to get funding next year though ?
  4. Most people in the sciences can't give up on grad school. With how the economy is now, a science degree at the bachelor level is almost unmarketable. Back before I got my acceptance I was sending my resume out to a bunch of environmental consulting companies and a lot of them say that they are really looking for people with master degrees. This of course isn't the rule everywhere. It use to be that people with geology degrees can find a job easily with just a bachelors but it appears that is now being diminished as time goes on. Something for the people who are giving up to think about. Also from a financial and earning prospective, master holding students make a lot more on average then people who just have a B.S but this is known already
  5. Email your adviser at rice they should have answers by now
  6. University of Massachusetts at Amherst is the only school where no decision has still not been made on my application. Anyone hear from them ?
  7. I agree. I did horrible on my GRE and still managed to get a TA position at a good school. However, I had s high GPA as well as other factors that were backing me up. Still got rejections that were due to my GRE but I'm the end it all worked out
  8. Sorry about that did you get in anywhere else ? The only two schools where no decision has been made on my application are UMass and VT. Even though I already have an offer from another school I still would like to know what my status is. I'm guessing since the 15th is two weeks away that we'll hear soon
  9. Oh okay mine doesn't have a letter. From what my POI said it sounded like at the very least I would get admitted without funding. I would obviously turn that down
  10. That's the section where you check to see if your materials have been received correct ?
  11. Did you get an email telling you to check the website ? Also it was April fools UT Austin, the great school of Laura Bush, does not make mistakes
  12. So a very weird situation, UT Austin actually emailed me saying that the rejection letter was a member mistake and that I was offered a TA position !!!!
  13. ^ VT = Virginia Tech ? If so I emailed connie and she told me that they pretty much have an idea of what the funding will be like and will most likely not offer anyone a spot
  14. I wouldn't spend s dime on grad school my advisor said that it isn't worth it. Luckily I got a TA position at UNL but if that didn't happen I would've applied for jobs and differed my acceptance until funding became available. This was an option I had that my advisor presented to me.
  15. Got my rejection letter from UT !!!!! All decisions have been made !
  16. If anyone applied to U Mass, my advisor contacted me today saying that they still are figuring out TA positions so funding isn't completely off the table yet
  17. Yea I had a lot of professors tell me that too especially this one from VT. I would agree to apply to a lot more schools. If I was reapplying I would definitely try to improve my GRE since they were s major problem for most of my schools. I would've gotten a lot more offers if they were a little bit higher. It doesn't matter at this point though I got in somewhere with funding and that's all that matters in the end
  18. I'm sorry to hear about your application season. Will you be reapplying ? Have you gotten any offers ? By the way my POI from VT emailed me today saying that they could accept me without funding but I turned it down.
  19. I pray no one else has this experience haha
  20. Found out today that my advisor managed to snag me a TA position ! Nebraska here I come !!! Does anyone though have info on the job placement in oil as a whole at UNL ?
  21. Who's still waiting to hear from this school? They're sending out rejections it appears so for those of us who haven't heard anything, have you contacted your advisors ?
  22. I'm in a similar situation. If the department can't give me a TA position or if my advisor can't get funding in time for the fall I'm putting off my acceptance to next fall. Why don't more people do this btw if funding is unavailable this time around ?
