Fwiw I got into a school with GRE scores lower then his but I also had a really high GPA and other things going for me. Don't give up hope !

Another week gone by and still no new news :/ Luckily spring break is coming !

For those of you who already are attending a program, how did you spend the summer between college and grad school? Did you apply to any grad internships ? Did you work somewhere ? Did you just lay around and relaxed ? Did you read a book, see a movie, or travel to a distant land ? I guess this question is skewed towards those who went directly into grad school without taking a year or two off after college

In the grad school world, I've come to realize that there are no "safety" schools because of issues like fit and funding. Now you might stand a better chance at some schools then others based on GRE/GPA but still high marks does not mean you'll get in. I would apply to a range of schools so maybe 2 top ten programs and a couple of lower tier schools. My mistake I think was taking my advisors word on everything and I winded up wasting money by applying to schools like Stanford and Wisconsin. Possibly a few others too but that was my situation. GL

Ask them, my POI at Nebraska has a website that shows where all of his students wind up. Mostly in industry so that's why he's probably the closest thing I have to a number one pick

It's because his POI had no funding probably or he didn't want a masters students. I don't even know what the funding situation is with my POI down there

No one from my school has heard from UT Austin :/ anybody have any luck ?

If you haven't done it already I recommend that you email or call your POIs. That's how I found out about all this

I think it's safe to say that UT is pretty much done. They'll probably accept a handful of applicants as people they accepted go elsewhere but that's about it. Same with VT I called and all TA positions have been awarded with three applicants still having no decisions. UMass will make their decisions either this week or next most likely and the other big state schools should be doing the same. We're in March so we all should be getting news soon

It still says under review. Chaos, thank you and I understand. I'm just happy that I still have a chance at Rive despite what a lot of other people have told me. The spring idea is interesting if I'm not awarded funding for the fall then maybe it's possible for him to admit me in the spring if funding becomes available ?

The first cut I'm guessing is GRE and GPA. He was responding to an email I sent last week
