  1. Thanks I have it written up for anyone who would like to read it
  2. I'm submitting a supplemental essay. It basically states that the GRE does not represent my abilities to do well in grad school. I said I did poorly on the act and sat but look at my grades all As and a couple of Bs in all my math and science classes. I also wrote (and in my ps) that I wrote a senior thesis and will create quality work both for my university and my advisor.
  3. Has anyone had any luck with explaining a poor GRE score on an application? I wrote a short essay that I'll submit as a supplemental item. If you want to review it let me know and I'll pm it over
  4. Also has anyone submitted an additional essay like this before ?
  5. I'm going to submit an additional essay with my graduate school applications explaining that my GRE scores do no represent my ability to excel in graduate school. If you would like to evaluate it please let me know and I'll shoot you a PM! Thanks !!!
  6. I like magoosh I'm taking it the 28th of sept but should I get the 99$ deal for six months or should I get the 79$ deal for a month ?
  7. Do you really need that high of a score ? You know most schools just use the GRE as a cutoff. Btw I would die to have those scores
  8. I'm thinking about getting magoosh. Anyone have experience with them
  9. Most schools don't even list their average scores.
  10. Also the ETS practice tests seem to offer to explanation to how to solve the problems. Is this true ?
  11. It is bullshit and I'm really frustrated by it! No he did not give a specific score I need to get. I probably should focus more on the math section even though I've done horrible on math standardized tests
  12. I took the GRE for the first time last October and did horrible, 145 V and 145 Q. I really didn't take a full serious practice test but I did but the PR book and did a bunch of practice questions from the book. During the test, I found myself guessing on a great majority of the questions. Every time I read a verbal or quantitative question I had no idea how to solve it or what they were asking me. The verbal passages are just so blah and the vocab is horrendous. Since the other parts of my application were strong, I decided to take a chance and apply to 8 graduate schools. I got into two of them but I wasn't offered funding, due to my GRE scores. My GRE scores kept out of a lot of schools I applied to and I'm just sick by that fact. My advisor at one of my schools flew me down for the week and before he dropped me off at the airport he said to strongly reconsider retaking the test for financial support for Fall 2016. Taking his advice, I scheduled the test for Sept 28th and took a practice test today, from ETS, with very similar results, V 143 and Q 145. I feel so stupid because I graduated with honors and two majors from a top state school and this test is weighing me down. Any advice ? I've never had a good history with standardized tests, I did just as bad on the SAT. Also do the ETS tests offer explanations for the right answers ?
  13. Oh Ohio State I was talking about Oklahoma State
  14. So how's the gay scene at Lincoln? I'm coming from NYC so it's going to be dramatically different
  15. I know this is College Station, TX which is a very conservative area but how is the gay scene down there? I got into Texas A&M
  16. Out of curiosity how late was your application ? Also I found out OSU doesn't require the GRE so that would've saved me a lot of stress last year lol
  17. Funding was a big issue for me with many of the schools I applied to also
  18. I wish I only had 10, 000 k in debt
  19. I can see where you are coming from but for the record no I would not take that offer lol. Connections still doesn't garuentee that you'll get a job for example my advisor at my current school had connects with my POIs and almost all of them said no to me. I think another fact that must be considered is how much debt you have. Someone who has 5,000 dollars in debt will probably make a different choice vs someone with 70,000 + dollars in debt especially if they only got into a private or out of state school that costs 28,000 + a year. Some people want to gamble and others want to play it safe. I was told by multiple people here that of not offered funding to not accept the offer and reapply. Originally I was skeptical but by looking at what the school would cost, what expenses I would have to lay out etc, it wasn't worth it for me. Again my situation and my opinion
  20. It's not a guarantee though that you'll land a job in oil right after grad school. If it was then that would be a different story. In my case the GRE kept me out of a lot of schools so improving might help. Overall I see a lot of grad students, including everyone at my current school, who aren't paying a dime for their degree. Wh should I ? I worked hard for four years I shouldn't have to pay either and luckily I won't. That's my opinion though
  21. Anybody here get into Nebraska ? Are you going or are you turning down your offer ?
  22. Personally unless I get a full tuition waiver I wouldn't take any of those
  23. This might just be me but like a lot of people on here, grad school isn't worth it if you don't have funding. Especially if you have a huge amount of debt like me from undergraduate. I would've found a job, retake my GRE (hopefully improve) and reapply. Again that's just me I was thinking about going to grad school and self fund but a lot of people turned me off from it
  24. Most people I know who major in biology that don't go into medicine or grad school go into environmental consulting. Same with geology and they train you to do field work and also how to operate programs
