  1. I'm just taking it at a local community college. =]
  2. For me, specialization is everything. There are not a lot of programs that not only focus on policy but also have the flexibility that I would like. It was the major factor in choosing which schools to apply to and which one I will attend.
  3. I think that it is important to be cautious. From what I have heard, not all adcoms will see that honesty as a neccesity and it could backfire. It really depends on how you word it and how long you speak about it in your SOP. Everyone's situation is different and even though I was diagnosed with three mental illnesses during my undergraduate degree, I was able to not mention it during my admissions process even though I had to take a year off, and get accepted.
  4. I also had mental issues that affected my performance in school but opted to leave them out and focus on my drive for social work and what I wanted to accomplish.
  5. I didn't have an interview, my scholarship was included with my acceptance letter. Good luck!!
  6. Hi everyone!, I am looking into some research fellowships at the schools I have been admitted into. Does anyone have any experience with fellowships of these kind or any advice for those applying? I have not done any research before but it was a heavy component in all of my apps and I am very interested in it.
  7. Rosesw, I am going to wait for UIUC's decision and fin aid from both UMich and UIUC but right now I am positive I'm going to WashU. I love the program.
  8. Rosesw, it's still early! Hopefully you will hear from them soon and that will make your decisions easier =]
  9. Rosesw, congrats! Is WashU your first choice?

  11. I really feel like we shouldn't be held responsible for late recommenders ugh. But you have been waiting almost a month, so who knows you may hear something soon! My application status wasn't complete until I called them either, which was a little annoying.
  12. I suffer from a few mental health issues and have been in therapy for the past two years now. I plan to continue therapy when I start school. I know that without my mental health, I will not be able to compete a program. But I did not mention this is any of my apps. I also heard that speaking about mental health will "spook" an adcom. I have a few people in my life that I can talk to about my mental health and I know what I need to do to keep sane.
  13. I contemplated applying for programs right after I graduated with my BSW but I knew field work was going to be an important factor in my career. I am have worked for almost a year in the field and will be starting a program this Fall. For me, that year has given me great insight into what field of social work I want to be in as well as the population and organizations that I see myself working with.
  14. Rosesw, you still got your app in pretty early! You should be hearing something soon. Is WUSTL your top choice?
  15. I also was admitted as well earlier this month! Rosesw, when did you apply?
  16. I was sent an email about accessing Wolverine maybe a few days after I applied. Call them, in the morning was when I was able to get the fastest service =]
  17. I decided to email admissions because I looked at the calendar and it has almost been two weeks since I was admitted. I don't want to get lost in all the paperwork!
  18. Hmmmm I haven't set up my umich email. I guess I'll set it up and check there? If it isn't there I'll check with them this week. Thanks!
  19. How long did it take for everyone to get the "official" email? I saw my status on Wolverine and I got an email from Financial aid about important things for applicants but nothing else.
  20. I only applied to three schools out of state (which I heard was a gamble). I worked on my apps constantly and made sure that I was giving adcom the best representation of myself and my goals.
