Hey everyone, I've seen a lot of people ask about facebook pages for schools both in this forum and on the results page, so I figured it was about time to make everyone's lives easier and compile them! I ended up applying to different schools than last year, except for 2 or 3 where I was waitlisted. I tried to be more strategic about it. I took a prerequisite though USU that my undergrad didn't offer, and became a literacy tutor. Changed my SOP a little but not much. Thankfully it all worked out and I received two acceptances!

I'm taking out loans, applying for a GA position, and looking into available scholarships. It helps that the school I'm going to isn't crazy expensive for an out of stater, and I definitely won't be waiting to try again since this is my second time around. I think taking out loans can be totally reasonable and doable, especially because SLPs do make good money. It all depends on what you debt you may have from undergrad, how much your grad program is, and how much debt you are comfortable living with. Loans may not be right for everyone, but I think for a lot of people they're a reality.

When I had my interview at Gov State, everyone was dressed business casual: dress pants, cute top mostly. I wore a dress with short heels and didn't feel out of place. Don't stress

Yeah, I'm definitely thinking reaching out to the school is a good course of action. I can't possibly be the first person with this problem lol. Wishing you the best with your decision making...you have a lot of options!!

I'm not sure that I've seen any listings for August. Most of the leases seem to begin in May/June, which is annoying on its own because I don't plan on moving out there until August. I've come across maybe seven listings that will work for me for the 2016-2017 year, but of course I don't know how many other grad students will be looking at those same listings. Ugh. Its like every time I think I can stop stressing, I find something new to stress over!

It starts in fall, so I was definitely hoping May/June would be fine. I had emailed one of the local management companies about the best time, and they suggested signing a lease in April!! That definitely freaked me out. I am hoping the fact that I am looking for a 1BR will be an advantage and be available later in the summer because most people live with roommates, but I just can't help but worry.

I have decided to attend a program out of state, but I am now worried about housing. It's unlikely that I will be able to visit the area to look at housing until the program orientation in May/June, but this worries me because I know most leases for next year are already signed, and the town I'll be moving to is not a large one. All my anxieties about getting in have been transferred to worrying about finding somewhere to live haha. Is anyone else already looking into housing, or are you waiting? How are you handling this as an out of state applicant?

I don't think it would make sense to do a post-bacc if your degree is in CSD unless you are missing a prerequisite or two that schools are looking for. You may be able to become an SLPA depending on the state you live in. Maybe retake the GRE if your scores aren't the best? I would consider getting yourself involved in some volunteering that can still relate to the field, like literacy tutoring or with a program that serves special populations.

Don't worry about having a 3.5 GPA. It may not be easy, but its definitely possible. I've been accepted to two schools with an overall of 2.84 and similar GREs. All I did differently this year compared to last year is show continued interest in speech by becoming a literacy tutor for adult immigrants, take another prereq, and did some serious research on schools' acceptance stats and reaching out to each one individually and discussing my situation to see if I might be a good fit as an applicant to each program. Took forever (spreadsheets on spreadsheets on spreadsheets!) and I had to really expand the geographic area I was willing to live within, but it worked out in the end. I'm very excited about my options. Don't lose hope!! Feel free to PM me if I can be of any help.

First, don't give up on this year. It's not over yet! But, I know the feeling. I'm a second year applicant. I got into two schools so far this year, but last year I was waitlisted or rejected from all 12 schools. I can't speak for you, but I can tell you how I handled it. First, I emailed the schools I was wailisted at and asked how I could improve my application. Most importantly though, I did some research (ASHA EdFind is your friend). I have good GRE scores and last 60 GPA, but low overall GPA due to some personal crap I was dealing with earlier in my undergrad. So, I emailed probably 60 schools back in May to find schools that only look at last 60 GPA, or schools who review every applicant holistically, rather than just by GPA cutoffs. It took forever, and I had to expand the geographical locations I was willing to live in, but in the end I got a bunch of really honest responses and it helped me whittle down my list. Beyond that, I took another prerequisite course through USU that my undergrad didn't offer, and I became an English tutor for adult immigrants. I also kept up with other volunteer activities even if they didn't have to do with SLP, like the local astronomical society, because I enjoyed them and figured they showed a little more about who I am as a person. I also made sure to get some fresh eyes to look at my SOP and see where that could be improved. I think the key is the play the numbers game: what are my stats, what schools fit them, and how many applicants am I up against? Of course you can still apply to reach schools; I did. But, I think if I hadn't done my research to see what schools would be a good fit for me and showed my continued language interest by tutoring, I never would have gotten in. That being said, I'm hoping you have get some good news from SFSU and don't have to worry about doing all of this again

@Cowsy You are definitely not the only one feeling that way! I thought my mind would relax once I got in, but I just keep finding more things to irrationally worry about

ugh, that's such a crap feeling. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Is anyone else seriously considering accepting an offer before hearing back from their other remaining schools, or am I a crazy person? I don't want to be impulsive...but I'm not convinced that any acceptance I get at another school would deter me from my current offer.
