  1. Good luck @haltheincandescent! I keep telling myself "I only need one (acceptance)". I'm also really anxious/excited to get my own apartment! I found a great one near my top choice school, so needless to say I'm very attached. This could end really well or really poorly lol. Stay tuned.
  2. Thanks Gingin! My first interview is in a couple of weeks and I am super nervous. I know that being invited means I have a good shot at being accepted, but I can't stop thinking "what if I don't". Gah.
  3. Haha, yes I applied to several places. While I am upset (it was a tie for my first choice), I do have 4 interview invitations (one is the other top choice). I'll be right here when you're ready! *raises glass*
  4. So, got my first rejection today *grabs wine*
  5. I've never been asked by any of the schools I researched and ended up applying to (save for Chicago).
  6. I looked into applying to a program there and was put off by them asking what other schools I was applying to. Ended up changing my plans (decided to apply to PhD not MA) but IMO that's unnecessary information.
  7. Thank you both. That is still unbelievably frightening! I've never had to prepare that much just to go from my house to my car But I do want to live down south (family scattered all over) so I better get used to it? Maybe I'll settle in Virginia as a happy medium.
  8. I applied to almost exclusively southern schools and I'm kind of starting to regret it I've lived there before, but spent 95% of my live in the north and don't remember what the day-to-day heat was like. I can handle high temps, but unfortunately it'll be coupled with high humidity. I visited the Midwest in summer once and the dry heat was amazing. As far as tips, all overheard is "you get used to being soaking wet and not being able to breathe because of thick air". Lol
  9. I'll be missing the first 2 weeks of classes for interviews. I know returning to class after that (or, starting classes I guess) will be super overhelming, but hopefully I'll have some acceptances by then?
  10. @lemonpartyHop on over to one of the many active threads for current applicants. Much more camaraderie there than making your own post.
  11. Wow that must be awful @Timemachines:/ I hope you hear soon.
  12. I'm applying to psych phd programs which almost always require interviews. More so for clinical/counseling psychology because interpersonal skills are important to being a therapist.
  13. Is it ok to whine over having interview conflicts?
  14. If the person who posted the most recent UT Knoxville counseling interview could PM me, that would be great
  15. Two weeks may be enough time to plan a trip somewhere, but it doesn't make it any less expensive for applicants lol
  16. A program I applied to notified applicants before the holiday break of interviews, yet I haven't heard anything. Interviews are 12 days away, is it too early to whine (and wine)?
  17. It depends on the program as well. One place I applied to doesn't accept students into one professor's lab, because all the professors work in collaborative labs. You're expected to jump around and find your interests, and you won't necessarily do research with your advisor. So students are just accepted based on the faculty's collective preferences. We weren't even asked to identify a professor in our SOP. They said we could, but it was more important to state your research interests clearly.
  18. Could the UT-Knoxville Counseling people* PM me? Not asking for your POI (unless you feel comfortable sharing!) but I do have a couple questions!
  19. @lola4 if you're not familiar with the results page, you can search for your specific field (and even program/school) to see if people are hearing back. Although people may not post right away or at all! Psychology is here, you can change parameters to say "clinical" or whatever: http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=psychology. I've heard definitively from 2 (invites) and had a positive phone interview the other day with a 3rd. Waiting on several others. One program I applied to notified applicants before xmas break, and I've heard nothing. I'm trying not to anticipate a rejection just because I haven't heard anything--I see no reason to think negatively about what I "should" have done better in that application. Getting invites from my top choices definitely helps me feel better though. Good luck everyone
  20. I don't think there are any compelling reasons not to follow up.
  21. I've had issues with ETS too. One school still hasn't received my official GRE score.
  22. The Graduate Admissions Committee is usually just the big oversight department that checks to make sure you meet minimum requirements. This could vary between schools, though. I don't think you'll have any problems, unless say you have a sub 3.0 GPA and the program wants to take you anyway, but the GAC won't accept exceptions to the 3.0 rule. Congrats!
  23. Could the person who posted that Georgia State update PM me please? I received the same notification and have a question for you! TIA
  24. I believe @TakeruK suggested not asking questions like that in an email. Not that you shouldn't ask at all.
  25. Have you searched the forums for threads on interview conflicts? There are numerous threads on the topic. It doesn't matter whether you interview with the professor and with the graduate students at the same time. You just need to interview with them. Cancelling in person interviews you previously committed to is a bad look, but ultimately up to you. US Graduate programs provide similar finding for international students; if funding is tuition remission plus stipend, everyone gets it. Canadian programs don't (from what I've been told by several schools).
