  1. I wonder if people going to medical school get those kinds of responses from their parents (being a pro student, not doing real work etc). I assume not. Kind of funny how parents want their kids to excel & be financially stable, yet aren't always supportive of the journey to get there!
  2. I'm still waiting on Georgia State. There was a post in the results page 2 weeks ago that interview day is 1/29. Hopefully they're postponing it, or accepting people without interviews @psycgrad37Update posted in the results thread!
  3. I wouldn't say it has "less weight", just that more well known schools (not just nationally, but regionally as well) give more weight.
  4. @raaawrI'm going from BS/BA to PhD too. For specifically what I want to do, an MA is not required and would be a waste. about half incoming students have a bachelors, half have a masters. generally can finish in the same amount of time (I specifically asked a POI at one school if there was any difference in length to completion, POI said no)
  5. Look into clinical-community programs (APA has a list). And counseling psych programs
  6. I would email and ask. I was in a similar situation and when I asked, they told me I wasn't offered an interview. It won't hurt.
  7. I never paid attention to what my instructors were wearing, so I'm surprised to see that this is something grad students/instructors are concerned about. And I certainly wouldn't judge am instructor for wearing warm gear indoors. Anyway...This is hopefully my last winter here as well! Can't stand it, though I'm not heat resistant at all.
  8. My first interview is this weekend, and while it seems far away, I know the week will fly by! And I want it to. I'm nervous but excited. Good luck everyone @raaawrI applied to psych PhD programs
  9. South Carolina sent all invites out last week @pittpanther. They gave us a deadline to RSVP and that deadline has passed.
  10. I've never heard of it "hurting" anyone's chances, but many clinical programs (and PhD programs in other disciplines) refuse to accept an applicant if they don't have a related master's degree. One program I applied to started accepting applicants with only bachelor's degrees this cycle. So, if I'm accepted and enroll, I'll be one of the first students (possibley the only) entering without a master's degree.
  11. @sjoh197 Many programs start reviewing applications before the hard deadline. They simply notify everyone at the same time instead of giving out decisions in a rolling manner.
  12. I, too, sleep through the better half of the day in hopes of waking up to an admissions email. Hasn't worked yet, no emails
  13. I think the compiled list is a good idea, although it is missing a lot of schools posted in the results thread. But now it makes it harder for us to continue to post here to ask questions. They get drowned out by very long posts you have to scroll through.
  14. I wrote my essays (technically one essay tailored to each school) talking about my practice experience(which led me to want to be a practicing psychologist), my research interests and experience, and career goals (to be a practicing clinician, not a researcher or academic). I've gotten 4 invites and 1 rejection so far, waiting on 2 more.
  15. @buttercup8d what are you referring to ("...how this works?")? Admissions are not solely based on numeric stats.
  16. Anyone hear from Georgia State counseling? There was a post in the results page last week-ish saying the interview is January 29, and we should hear back "between now and then". With 2 weeks until then, I hope that's not the actual date. It'll be very expensive getting a plane ticket to Atlanta now.
  17. I have new LinkedIn profile views too. Although I don't know my settings, so not sure what they can see lol
  18. I couldn't apply to just one clinical psych PhD program....I might as well not even apply lol. For masters programs (I was thinkin MSW), I planned to only apply to 2 or 3. Ended up going solely for PhD. But of course, if I get into my top choice I'll say "man, I should've only applied here and saved money ". How about this....if sometime between January 25th and February 1st (possibly a tad later) I post "man, I should've only applied to one place " that means I was accepted to my top choice. Let's see if anyone remembers (including myself haha).
  19. That isn't an issue for me. Many people go through "imposter syndrome" regardless of how many acceptances they have. It's an ok feeling to have, as long as it doesn't linger and hinder your performance. I already have a top choice (my first interview next weekend). Unless something goes HORRIBLY wrong, it'll remain my top choice and I would commit in a heartbeat if accepted. It would be great to sit and compare aid packages, research, quality of life, etc but options stress *me* out more. I think there's a greater chance I'll have "what if" doubts if I actively choose to accept one offer and decline another. I do have another school tied for a top, and realistically it would be more advantageous for me to have more than one option (hope I get into both). It's good stress to have. And it does feel good when more than one place wants you
  20. I have probably over 100 books I've collected over my 4 years of college....when I get an apartment I WILL get a proper bookshelf, categorize them by topic (then put them in alphabetical order), and read each. Slowly. Very slowly.
  21. If you email them asking for an admissions notification timeline, I'm sure they wouldn't mind telling you.
  22. I would appreciate if the Kent State clinical person would PM me, I have questions (will not ask your POI)! TIA
