  1. There's nothing else to say about chances if you didn't interview beyond "small"/"highly unlikely". If you check the app portal your status should be "decision made" and you'll get a letter in the mail. But those who are accepted were notified by phone and email.
  2. Popping in with a positive waitlist story and to give some encouragement and compassion to those waiting. I was waitlisted at 5 programs and people started accepting their offers. I became really depressed and isolated myself over the past couple of weeks, feeling like a failure (not getting accepted =/= failure, but feelings aren't logical!). Then, yesterday I got a call from my POI at my top choice offering me a spot! The person who was initially accepted *and* the person ahead of me on the waitlist both declined their offers to go elsewhere. I thought that would be unlikely to happen, so I pretty much resigned myself to looking at post-grad jobs (amid bouts of crying haha). Waitlists don't always have happy endings. But it's possible. Try to be kind to yourself while you're waiting, and especially after you receive bad news that you won't be getting an offer (if that happens---happened to me).
  3. (Today) I was on the phone when I heard the call waiting beep sound. I thought it was probably my mother or something, until I ended the call and saw the area code for my POI at a school I had been waitlisted at (not even first on the waitlist, so I didn't really have hope). I tried to answer, but my POI had hung up already. Luckily they had immediately called back. I didn't get my hopes up right away because I did actually get a call earlier in the week from a POI at a school I was waitlisted at, just to tell me I wouldn't be getting an offer. But I'm beyond excited that it turned out to be a happy call!!!! I had really been down in the dumps these past few weeks because I got not good news from everywhere I interviewed with. I can't even put into words how I feel right now.
  4. I can't believe I get to say this..... BUT I GOT IN TO MY TOP CHOICE*!!!!! *one of two top choices Wow. Unreal. The stars really aligned for me as I hadn't had any offers before getting this great news.
  5. Skowhegan is simply one program.
  6. I don't think you should say you have other offers unless the waitlist school asks. We (as applicants) have no idea what schools do with this information. It could help you get off the waitlist if they really want you, or it might hurt your chances if they think you'll go elsewhere. Just update your CV with your academic/research accomplishments.
  7. I'm waitlisted at every program I interviewed with. It sucks to be waitlisted, and it sucks waiting for people to make a decision. I plan on following up with my top choices toward the end of March restating my interest and asking if there have been any changes. It's tough, but hang in there. Hope the best for all of us.
  8. This sounds like an absolutely ridiculous request. I personally would follow through with it, and would instead as the department head (if he isn't that person) if this is expected of applicants/are professors allowed to do this to applicants. I agree with you in that I wouldn't want to work with this professor. If the website stated that ALL applicants would be given a project as part of admissions, that would be different, but this project seems like a huge burden (at least 20 hours a week????). I understand the pressure you're feeling since this is the only program that you've heard from, but I don't think it would be worth it or that you would be happy in short and long term if you worked with this professor. Have you responded to his request?
  9. Well, my wait is over. I have no offers this admissions cycle. This will be my last post here—good luck to those still waiting.
  10. For my applications, all applicants were assigned an "admissions counselor" that was a point person for making sure all application materials were in. Once complete, they were no longer the point person and any questions should be directed at the department. Note that I applied for PhD programs, so Master's may be different. Generally in PhD programs, you apply to work with a specific faculty or research team, and there are either no admissions counselors, or they do exist but have no input on your application. Instead, the professor or research team chooses to accept, waitlist, or reject your application.
  11. I echo the advice given by other posters -- contact the school you're accepted to and ask for an extension. I think it may be helpful to contact the nice person at your goal program and talk with them about your situation. I wanted to point out something in the quoted post. The mutual agreement to give accepted students until April 15th to decide is only for programs in the "Graduate School" at the institution. While other graduate programs may still use April 15th, they are not bound to it as they are not included in the Council of Graduate Schools Resolution. So, programs in a School of Education, Public Health, Medicine, etc are not part of the resolution. While many US universities are a part of the resolution, absence from it doesn't mean anything in my opinion. Especially since it's not legally binding and universities won't feel any backlash or receive punishment if they break from this resolution. Even though it's not pertinent to the OP's situation, just wanted to clarify that for anyone applying to US programs. Good luck @VictoriaKBun!
  12. POI as in Person of Interest? Absolutely LOVE the show, sad that it'll likely be cancelled after this (short) season coming up in late spring/summer.
  13. Getting antsy since I haven't heard back from a program that has a fellowship deadline of March 1. It's not required, but it'll give a stipend of $30k vs the standard $13k GRA. Nothing has been posted on the results thread so far, so I'm holding out hope that no one has heard (vs acceptances already having been sent out last week and I just wasn't amongst them). The program told us last week that they would try to get back to us *all* by last Friday or this Wednesday at the latest. You have to be nominated by the program before applying, which entails writing a 4 page double spaced essay. Fingers double crossed.
  14. I got several down votes in another thread for pointing out how those kinds of comments don't go in the results thread and all they do is clog it.
  15. Got a call from a program I applied to just now. Heart jumped thinking it was an acceptance. Nope. First on the waitlist (on the plus side, if I'm given an offer I'll be awarded a fellowship). Life is officially trolling me. I'm 4/4 with waitlists. If I'm waitlisted for the program I interviewed with today, I am getting on a space ship and leaving the planet for good.
  16. Going off of what Eigen said--if you did say you had several offers when you only had other one, then you're in a tight spot. You could tell the truth, possibly by saying you're only seriously considering this other school you were accepted to and the one you're waitlisted at. You could also lie again (if you did in the first place, maybe you didn't!) and say you turned down other offers and are only considering this one school (that you actually got into) and the one you're waitlisted at. But that would just be another lie on top of the original. I definitely wouldn't lie and make up schools you were admitted to when you weren't. Faculty are well connected, and you're likely to say a program that a faculty has connects with and could easy verify ("verify" could just mean having a chat about an applicant if they're friendly with that POI). I posted this on another post, but an extreme example is that my current advisor told me that a POI called him up, told him he wouldn't be accepted due to fit, but then listed *everywhere* my advisor applied (advisor never told the POI or program where he applied) and told my advisor that he would be getting offers at all those other places, so not to worry about this rejection. And he did get all of those offers. This is not likely to happen to anyone else, but there is a high chance your POI knows people.
  17. Same here. A couple of schools I applied to assign applicants actual student ID numbers (and email addresses but we aren't told those, I only found out by happenstance from a secretary) that then transfer if you attend. Seems like a waste/extra effort on their part. And it does get your hopes up haha also, ditto to everything bugabooo said. always support here
  18. Aaaaand I'm done. No more interviews! Today was great, loved everything about the program and people. Sad to say it offers the lowest stipend of all the places I applied (by about $2-4,000) but it would be hard to turn them down. I had an interview with a faculty who wasn't my POI, I was kind of thrown off by that since everyone else only met with their POI. But the professor started the interview with "I know you don't do anything in XYZ area (his research area), but I read your application and really wanted to talk to you!" I was definitely honored to hear that And we found out we actually have a lot of research ideas in common. Hopefully that gives me an edge in admissions.
  19. Have you tried contacting the program's you haven't heard back from? That's the only way to be sure of your application status. Congrats on the acceptances in hand and good luck!
  20. Heading to my last interview. If this school follows its notification pattern for the last few years, then I'll have an acceptance on Thursday or Friday, and a waitlist or rejection if I don't hear by then. Fingers crossed its an acceptance—it'll be my first and probably only (low chances of getting off any of the waitlists since I know that the applicants given offers accepted them immediately). I'm fine with just one! Only one school I visited gave me bad vibes (not the people, but the program structure or lack thereof) but I expected that going in given their stats. Trying not to freak out but this is pretty much my last chance. I don't know how to wow them into giving me an offer instead of putting me on the waitlist! I'm grateful for a waitlist vs an outright rejection, but the outcome has been pretty much the same for me
  21. The April 15th deadline is only for Graduate Schools within universities that signed the Council of Graduate Schools resolution. Most universities are on it, but if a program doesn't specify, I would ask. It also only applies to Graduate Schools, not professional schools, schools of education, etc. Of course a school can still have that deadline without signing the resolution, but it's better to just ask.
  22. I'm also waitlisted at a couple programs. Such an emotional roller coaster, it's definitely stressing me out. As an aside, I'm not sure if it was you who posted a link to this thread on the results page, but please don't do that again (you, or whoever posted it). Clogging the results page with comments (which don't belong there) instead of decisions makes it more difficult for current and future applicants to find relevant results. Good luck this application cycle.
  23. Just received more upsetting news. It's looking really grim for me right now. I remember how happy I was to get so many interviews, but now I found myself wondering what went wrong.
