  1. No problem @ClinicalApplicant07! I've been incessantly refreshing that page for the past week
  2. @asa.pearl You're better off here: http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=psychology SDN tends to be behind in posting interview invites, since they're medically oriented and don't have as many PhD students over there. They get most of their information from here
  3. Current psych PhD applicant - most of the schools I applied to listed the professors who will be accepting students. 2 didn't (my 2 top choices!) and I hadn't realized. I emailed one less than a week before the deadline and another the day/evening of the deadline. They both said that they were accepting students, were impressed by my CV, and look forward to reading my application. I was worried that it would have a negative impression, especially since I submitted my applications in October, but it doesn't seem like it did. For one, I wrote something like "in my excitement over the admissions process and learning about your research, I forgot to email and ask if you are accepting students". It was, thankfully, well-received. Good luck!
  4. I had my first invite on Tuesday You were right @FeelGoodDoGood, this week has been a very busy time for notifications!
  5. It varies by school. The general range is 20-25. The schools usually list this information on their website somewhere. You should decide whether you do an in-person or Skype interview based on 1) which program you prefer and/or 2) which place you feel you have a better likelihood of admission. Honestly, #2 is pretty impossible to gauge. I, personally, would base my decision off of #1. Either way, this is a great problem to have (as opposed to receiving less interviews or no interviews) and I wish you the best! You should be proud of yourself.
  6. Many programs begin reviewing applications as they're completed (that's how applicants are finding out so soon after deadlines). I received an invite yesterday, and the DCT told me they finished reviewing all applications already. However, that school also receives a significantly lower number of applications than other schools (less than 100). That probably helped them notify us so soon. I'm still in college, so I decided to submit my applications in October so I wouldn't have to worry about them during my senior fall.
  7. I'm so shocked that so many are being notified so soon! My applications are half clinical, half counseling, and I feel blessed to have an interview before the holidays! That'll tide me over until January, but hopefully other schools I applied to will notify soon, too
  8. double post due to slow internet connection.
  9. SUNY Albany, Counseling PhD is making calls! I got called by my POI about an hour ago. Info posted in the results thread.
  10. I second the above suggestion. I didn't hear it from anyone, but I've started to do that on my own since I have also been jumping at every notification lol.
  11. Congrats @FeelGoodDoGood! I'm hoping to hear back from one school I applied to next week, since that's when they notified applicants the past couple of years. Hopefully all my schools notify me before break, but that's wishful thinking lol
  12. $50, wow! Mine were on average $75. I had to pay $35-$40 for each school for my transcripts, because I had multiple transcripts from multiple schools (home university, study abroad, etc). My total costs of applying to 7 schools was about $750-$800. Definitely ruined my semester savings plan
  13. Congrats everyone on the early invites! Hopefully I have good news to post here within the next 2 weeks. Judging by the past couple years of threads here and on SDN, one school I applied to calls applicants in the mid-teens of December. This is my first, and hopefully last, time applying to both counseling and clinical programs. Fingers crossed.
  14. So happy this is happening! I thought SDN would have a thread already but they don't, not since I checked the other day.
  15. Good luck! I decided against applying to master's programs although that was my original plan. I think my plan B is to find a job (research or clinical, I prefer clinical but I already have a lot of that). I decided against PsyD because I just wasn't informed enough about them, and I only know that Hartford and Rutgers are reputable. But they required the psych GRE and I decided against that lol.
  16. My apps have been in for a month now. Although I'm happy I got things in early, it only prolonged this painful waiting period Going by the last couple of years, I could hear back from one of the schools I applied to in the next two weeks (interview, rejected, or waitlist)! Can't believe it. I don't know what I'll do in the meantime. Luckily the holidays are coming up, and so is my birthday. Hopefully that will keep me occupied for a bit.
  17. Aw man I've applied to a couple of clinical, but my heart is in counseling. I'll just head back to SDN
  18. bump!! I know there are more out there :)
  19. I don't understand your response to my post. I stated that one should follow what the program says, and that I specifically would not be deviating from that. If you were simply agreeing with me, my apolgies.
  20. My remaining recommenders have sent in their letters so my applications are officially complete! Some of them even say "your application is now under program review". So excited!
  21. Last night I decided to add 2 more schools, bringing my total applications to 7. I just need December 1 to come so I won't feel compelled to add more
  22. Submitted mine! Waiting on 2 recommenders to submit their letters and my applications will be complete. I can't believe the process has officially started good luck to everyone!
  23. Ah! I typed up an entire response that somehow didn't post. Ah well. -Why counseling psych? It's the right mix of clinical psych and social justice. Although I am interested in psychopathology, I want to approach it from a resilience angle, so counseling psych is perfect for that! -What do you want to do with your degree after graduation? I want to work in a community health center or a hospital with a community health (probably outpatient) program. I definitely don't want to teach or do research, but who knows how I'll feel in 4-7 years I think research/teaching is something I wouldn't mind doing later in my career, but that's probably not feasible unless I keep it up after grad school. I wouldn't mind teaching a course here and there, maybe a practice course! -Research interests? Adolescents/transition age youth and depression. How factors like poverty and discrimination impact mental health. -Schools you're applying to? (Don't have to answer this question if it's uncomfortable/unnerving) Won't say specifics but applying to more clinical oriented programs, ones that give a lot of training in treating psychopathology. -What are you doing during this app cycle? (Working, finishing senior year of college, etc) Finishing senior year of undergrad and working! Can't wait for it all to be over and to just know what I'm doing next fall, hopefully in grad school lol. There have to be some more people applying to counseling programs!
  24. Hello everyone! I didn't see a thread for this so I decided to start one. Anyone who's applying this cycle can talk about the process or just life in general! When interview notices start coming in, we can post here, too. Here are some questions to get us started: -Why counseling psych? -What do you want to do with your degree after graduation? -Research interests? -Schools you're applying to? (Don't have to answer this question if it's uncomfortable/unnerving) -What are you doing during this app cycle? (Working, finishing senior year of college, etc) Good luck everyone!
