Online (at least part time) SLP programs??
2bridges replied to Rosie Mc's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Look into Speech@NYU. Part time is at least 6 credits. All classes are online and you only have to come to NY for 2 long weekends during the course of your studies. Most of the live classes are held between 4-9 PM Eastern time, but there are a few earlier classes. -

What is the private Facebook page for students? I tried the link someone posted on 2NYU but it doesn't work. -

I second Magoosh. Download their free vocabulary and math app and practice whenever you have a free moment. I raised my verbal score by 5 points in less than a month by studying their flashcards. Also try reading sophisticated newspapers like the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Reuters. Often their vocabulary is in sync with the GRE.

NYU Steinhardt online distance program
2bridges replied to HopefulFutureSLP2016's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Hi, since you started the online cohort, I had a question about the academic calendar. I looked online and the NYU calendar says summer classes end around August 15, but when I was on Albert in showed the that Speech@NYU classes end around August 25. My question is, how much of a break is there between the summer sessions and the fall? I have a destination wedding next August in Europe and I'm wondering if I can make it. -
I'm starting in September. How do you like the program so far? How are lessons structured? Is it a lecture style or more of a discussion?

I agree, $75 is a small price to pay! If I'm lucky enough to get called for an interview I will definetly PM you. When did you submit your application? -

When did you submit your application? I applied but I think I just donated $75 to the DOE lol. I already have a NYS ed license and I know it bars me from consideration, buuut I figured "who knows what might happen," so I sent an application in anyway. Good luck and please report back about how the interview goes! -

Touro College vs LIU Brooklyn

LIU is on academic probation. Read the report on CAA. There is about 8 reasons why; and they have until January 2018 to fox the issues. I took my pre-reqs there and the department was disorganized. This creates a lot of undue stress. The office staff make it seem like it is a hassle to do anything for you. I heard the head of their department was let go. You may be put in their online cohort so if that is not a learning style you are comfortable with then I would give it some consideration. An old coworker of mine is graduating from Touro in May. She took her pre-reqs there and she seems happy with the program. I have heard bad things about Touro in general for all programs including SLP. Some people do not think very highly of that school, but I'd lean more toward Touro than LIU. -
NYU SLP online program?
2bridges replied to HopefulFutureSLP2016's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
What cohort is this group for? I start in September. I must be a real Scorpio (private type) since I keep low social media profile and don't even have a Facebook! Just IG. Do you recommend signing up for a Facebook account to join this group? I like the idea of chamraderie and getting to know my classmates. Is Facebook the only platform, besides the NYU affiliated, that students use to communicate and pass information? -
Thank you! Fingers crossed for you!

Just received my rejection letter in the mail from St. John's! Disappointed since it did not even mention their waitlist. I wonder what type of student this school wants. My GPA and GRE scores are higher than most of the people who posted to the results section. Maybe they want a traditional student or those interested in the medical side of SLP. Someone on this forum once said the program is medically based but everyone I've met who graduated from the program works in a school. Oh well, I'm grateful I was accepted to three other schools. Best of luck to you and I hope you get an offer!
-
I just called graduate admissions and a recording stated that the school is closed from today Thursday April 13 till Monday April 17. I doubt anyone will get offer over the next few days unless there is some sort of automated system. This is one of my top choices but with all this stress I'm wondering if I should just be happy with my offer to Speech@NYU. Both programs have pro's and con's.

I saw someone on the results page was accepted to St. John's today! I wonder how they determine who gets an acceptance offer because a lot of the people who have been accepted to St. John's have lower stats and GRE scores than me.

BTW I see you applied to St. John's and Touro. Have you heard back from St. John's? I haven't. If you have not heard back from Touro, don't lose hope, two years ago my coworker found out in May that she was accepted to Touro.- 57 replies
