  1. Not sure if this helps anyone at this point, but I declined UT-Austin, the University of Delaware, and the University of Connecticut late on April 13. I declined the University of Minnesota on the evening of April 15. Hopefully someone will benefit from at least one of these slots.
  2. I will be attending William and Mary!
  3. I found out a few days before the April 15th deadline that I got in off the waitlist at William and Mary. After much thought and consideration, I accepted their offer! It was a tough decision, but I'm very happy with my choice.
  4. I got rejected by Brandeis today, which wasn't too surprising given how long it's taken to hear from them. I still have one more school to visit (U Minn) before I make my decision. There's still a lot to think about!
  5. Congratulations! Did you attend the open house there last month? If not, and you have questions, feel free to PM me (I was there).
  6. Just curious, is it advisable to wait until after I've made my decision to enter information? Should I include all of the offers I received, or only the one I accepted?
  7. UVA's visit starts tomorrow, so I imagine if you haven't heard by now, that's not a good sign. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! As @archersline said, UT Austin already had their recruitment weekend, and made it pretty clear to those in attendance that they were the pool from which admits would be drawn. To the best of my knowledge, they have not made an official decision yet, so a waitlist situation is still possible there. Looking at the results page just now confirmed that no one has reported an acceptance to UT Austin in history yet this year (those posted are art history). I don't know about Emory.
  8. I'm colonial and early Republic America - my thesis research stretched from the mid-1600s to the mid-1800s.
  9. I'm trying to arrange to stay with a current grad student. The department put me in touch with a couple of people who are coordinating housing, and it is my understanding that they're working out the details this weekend.
  10. I know I'm a bit late to the conversation, but I'm going too, and would be interested if people are still planning to meet up.
  11. Thanks! Indeed, as of this afternoon, my rejection from Harvard is official. I'm honestly not surprised.
  12. Anyone else still waiting to hear from Harvard? I'm pretty much assuming rejection at this point, but it would be nice to know for sure.
  13. @alain I also applied (and got accepted) to Minnesota, though I'm still waiting for my formal offer. Most of what I know comes from investigating the school's website - both for the history department and for affiliated departments and resources. I'd be happy to share what I know if you think it will be useful. @ashiepoo72 Could I PM you with some questions about Minnesota?
  14. UT-Austin invited me to a recruitment event via email over the weekend. It sounded like they had not made admissions decisions yet, and might wait to do so until after the event (3rd week of February). Good luck!
  15. If cost is the only factor steering you away from the iPad, I'd recommend used or refurbished. I've gotten two laptops from sellers on the LEM (Low End Mac) Swap List, both of which were in good condition and have lasted for years. I just checked, and someone is selling a 3rd Gen iPad now that might meet your needs: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/lemswap/ipad|sort:date/lemswap/gYrznp1ORO8/EhSxLQL8BgAJ If not, try Other World Computing; they offer nice refurbished Apple Products at reasonable prices. I got my first laptop from them in 2005, and have purchased other components (drives, software, peripherals) from them over the years. They have several iPads right now: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Apple-Systems/Used/Apple-iPad-Tablets?_ga=1.55656291.999890133.1450013606 If you aren't looking to buy right away, it's worth checking these sites frequently, especially after the holidays, when people are selling their old tech after getting new devices as gifts. P.S. This is my first post here - hope that's ok! I'm an Early Americanist with an MA/MLS (History/Archives) applying to PhD programs this cycle. Someone in my cohort used an iPad extensively for photographing 20th century documents in the archives when she was doing research for her thesis and seemed quite happy with the results.
