  1. @shadowclaw @Pitangus I know how you feel, the two-body problem is super frustrating. I'm currently in a city for grad school that neither my bf or I enjoy. Luckily its only two years and I'm almost done with my first year. Like I can't go outside very long because it causes my body to experience reactions and I feel tired all the time. We both want to move back east but job situations are preventing us basically. Since the hiring freeze, my bf now has been looking into seasonal jobs to get experience on his resume. These jobs are all over the country, so we have no idea where he will end up. Also my program requires at least a 6 month internship to complete my degree. But now with the possibility of agencies' budgets being cut, the job market is even going to be fiercer. So we have a lot of unknowns and what ifs. @shadowclaw does your husband just like to vent and doesn't realize the impact it has on you? I've done that too my bf before and we actually had to sit down to talk. I'm now working on that habit. @Pitangus I can see why moving back to a location where you are limited will be frustrating. It seems like we have to choose between our careers and home life happiness at times. Would I love to work in certain locations, like Maine? Yeah I would, but I've decided that staying with my partner was more important. We also talked and I reassured him that I could work at a museum, library, park, university, etc. He was afraid that I would grow bitter against him. Now I'm not religious but I would love any good wishes or good luck! Bf has an interview on Monday!
  2. I agree! But I love snow, so more the better! Btw new mexico is a fun place to road trip! Bf and I drove around, saw several parks and ate some awesome food . Now back to studying..... @rhombusbombus I'm sorry! That does suck. I kinda know how you feel, I applied for several internships with the Smithsonian and I didn't get them. I wasn't shock but if I'm being honest, I was a little disappointed. I felt like I had a great shot at it, even though I downplayed it to everyone else.
  3. stay warm guys! my mom works in DC and they were predicated to get 1 ft......they got 2 inches lol
  4. I started my MA at 22 but I'm also one of the younger students. Most are a couple years older but we have someone in their 60s. 30 is young! You have all the time in the world
  5. It may also be a masters vs phd thing as well. I'm currently attending a terminal masters degree for museums. I receive funding (not a lot) and its a very interdisciplinary program. While my focus is more STEM aligned, my peers work in art, anthropology, registration, etc. My program actually encourages us to try and obtain internships. My job isn't exactly restricted by time, I can either stay here and work during the summer or I can leave.
  6. @Anathem I'm sorry! I really hope that time will heal this wound. I know you said that this internship won't be waiting around forever, but I think its still a good idea to keep in contact. Let them know due to policies and conflicts you will not be able to accept this opportunity but you look forward to future collaboration. Keep an eye out on job postings as well.
  7. I also can't answer the Quebec question but I can try to help with the other question! I think the first step is to create a budget. Use an excel spreadsheet and watch youtube videos! That way you can actually see how much it would cost and if you can afford. Look at rent prices, grocery bills, etc.
  8. I also recommend trying to find an on campus job. I had a choice between an off campus job vs on campus. While the off campus job paid a little more, the on campus job provided more flexibility. Both jobs were in my chosen field (museums). However, the on campus job required less hours and paid more hourly. I will have to say that I think having flexibility really helped me and my grades.
  9. omg, i wish we had fun holidays like that. unpopular opinion, i love franchise diners. Denny's is the best and i love all their unhealthy food
  10. I've never heard of anyone else being allergic! Mine swell as well, turn red, have a surrounding rash, then turn purple. This process lasts between 3 weeks to a month. Doctors think this is very unusual reaction...um i agree. thats why i mad an appointment lol
  11. @hippyscientist My geology professors wouldn't mind . But it really helps me and I hope it helps you! @Pink Fuzzy Bunny Sigh, I think its also very excessive. I have a doctors appointment in april to test whether i'm allergic to mosquitoes or developing an autoimmune problem. I know nature is coming back to life though. I could only be outside for 30 mins yesterday before my throat and eyes started to hurt. This was with medication.
  12. Have you tried writing down your thoughts and then saying them outloud? Kinda like a rehearsal? I know you can't fully prepare but it will make you feel confident at least saying the principles out loud. Thats what I do, I have a speech impediment so I completely understand. I also talk to someone about it over and over again so I'm used to having a human looking at me lol
  13. My body has one of those weekends every now and then that it just shuts down. I barely got everything done that was due by midnight tonight. Ill try that! Thanks for the luck. Its an online class so this will be our first impression. I'm kinda a spaz though. Oh and my familys helpful suggestions on my literacy research "people are just lazy", "you can't quantify souls", "its their personalities"......thanks for that guys lol
  14. All As so far! Don't want to jinx myself though. I know what you guys mean, coffee isn't having the same effect as it used too. I slept so much this weekend. 12 hrs on friday and 14 hrs on saturday. I have a meeting with my literacy professor to see if I can join her on a project. Hopefully I make a good impression...
  15. I've risen from the ashes, also known as tests lol. So far this semester has been good. Didn't get the Smithsonian internship though
  16. I love sleep. I also love being in bed and just relaxing. Bf and I are very laid back travelers/tourists. We walked around the river walk, ate some food and visit the Alamo. Now we are just relaxing at the hotel and will venture out for dinner. We hope to make some stops at certain parks on the way out
  17. We are going to Mesa Verde National park! No skiing for us but we love road trips and going to national/state parks. We haven't done it for awhile so we are excited
  18. @Pink Fuzzy Bunny Awe I'm sorry, I hope it gets better! I know this may not be what you want to hear but you could always leave with a masters @hippyscientist secrets can be the worst ha. but bf and I are going to colorado this weekend, yay!
  19. @hippyscientist Not in grad school but bf and I were in the same department for undergrad. It worked out wonderfully for me and we have been dating for over 3 years now. But I guess in my opinion is that love is one of the few things that makes life worth living. I've always had this trick where I flip a coin to decide. However, if I'm disappointed by the result then I have my answer. Plus gravity is one of the things you can always count on @MarineBluePsy Its been day 4 and the cat has been coming back everyday for love and the meow mix! She sleeps on our porch now. My semester has been okay, not too busy or slow.
  20. I guess some people are just oblivious towards things that are common in their daily lives. But I think a cat has adopted me. He/She has been coming to the house everyday. The cat rubs against me, lets me pet he/she and is super friendly. I've been feeding it so hopefully it stays around long enough for me to officially adopt
  21. I don't think there is anything you can do about it now. I guess just take it in stride and know that in general you should waive them. The main experience I've had is that one of my LOR refuses to write for anyone who doesn't waive. He said he found it disrespectful. Now thats just my mentor and not everyone on the planet. I don't think this will sink you but I've only been through this process as a MA student. I think you will be fine!
  22. @MarineBluePsy That does sound really good! And I wonder if its because Austrlia is such a big region that there isn't just one majority diet/dish and thats why theres confusion? I feel like it would be similar asking an American what American food is. You might get different answers depending on the region.
  23. Ah ok, thanks for enlightening me! That does sound super good. I just saw a a library job open up and the salary/benefits are super attractive....man I wish I was already done with school ha.
  24. @MarineBluePsy You should listen to their voicemail sometime....they really commit to this act lol. What exactly is Australian food? I'm very uncultured when it comes to food lol. I've always wanted to try Greek, Mediterranean, and others but never get the chance
  25. @Pink Fuzzy Bunny I'm sorry! Treat yourself this weekend. This too shall pass. I know this isn't the venting thread but I kinda know you guys. i really hate everything trump is doing. everything. its also for very selfish reasons. Hes making it impossible for my bf to find a federal job. All the jobs he has been referred to and waiting for an interview have been frozen. now we are trying to come up with a plan b. it makes me so angry that this dumb jerkoff froze agencies that don't even make up 10% of our federal budget. Also his plans or the puppet masters just shoving things in front of him are going to make it very hard for me to find a job when i graduate. But ooooh no, don't worry we are going to spend billions on a useless ignorant wall. You know what we can do with that money?! We could cover every birth and birth care for every woman for 5 months. Do those "pro-life" people care?! Naw, they are just focused on taking away options from others.
