I second that this is department/school base. I'm in a very interdisciplinary program and my cohort has a wide variety of degrees. I will have to say while Bs aren't as good as As or A-, in my program there isn't a huge emphasis on it. My program seems to adopt the attitude that B is still passing and as long as you are passing then its fine. The only concern is that you may possibly drop below a 3.0 which may cause funding issues.

Why do they feel compelled to give the A- ?
Need Coffee in an IV replied to Averroes MD's topic in Religion
I recieved two A- this semester and one A. I agree with @Eigen about the work consistently ranging from B-A quality may affect the final grade. That's what happened to me. Overall, you shouldn't be worried since grad school cares more about your development/output than grades. At my school though a A- is still a 4.0 so I guess it ranges from school to school. I guess take this as a lesson on what your professors expect of you. -
Y'all, I need a bag that screams Professor

This is more on the fashion side than the practical side but I've always been happy with the quality and look of kate spade bags. They look professional but usually don't have extreme amount of pockets, zippers, etc. But they usually have surprise sales where you can get great deals. Also if there are department stores near you, I think Dillards, Macy's, and Nostrdom have a great selection too. -
I'm very sorry that this semester didn't go as planned! I have a speech impediment and my bf has an autoimmune illness too. So you aren't alone and while I can't completely understand since I'm not you, I can kinda relate. I know expressing your problems will be difficult but I think that is the only way you can get over this hump. Maybe go to the disability office and have a couple meetings to come up with a game plan? Then email your chair/head of department to see if they can come by so they can also be a part of plan? Then with your permission have the chair privately discuss this with your upcoming professors and maybe talk to your new professors after the first day of class to be on the same page? This way it doesn't look like you are trying to make excuses? Idk if this helped but I wish you good luck!

@hippyscientist well I'm glad to brighten 2016 by a little! I finally read Breakfast at Tiffanys and I wasn't impressed at all. I didn't connect with the story or the characters. I honestly don't get the appeal. Its similar to Gone With The Wind. I loved the book, it had a great plot. But I'll never understand why anyone would want to be Scarlett, yes she's complex but not exactly someone I want to model after.

it feels weird that carrie fisher is gone. She was only 60. She helped remove the stigma of mental illness a little bit which was super brave of her. It makes morality kinda real because my parents and bfs are close to her age. I'm basically done with my application now I just wait for letters. Again ha.

That's true! I would have to say (not relying on any data, just personal experience) crime in norfolk wasn't gendered skewed that much. Crimes around the area were primarily petty robbery and car break ins.

It really depends on your budget! I would recommend if you can, you should visit the city and apartments. That way you can get a feel to see if you like it particularly at night. Unfortunately I don't have any personal experience on recommending apartment complexes though. My brother never left that particular area when he was going to school there. But I think its better to pay a little more to get a secured building.

Once again they chose the WORST designer to win. Her clothes were hideous but the judges said she was "fashion forward". My favorite was robbed! Its even more annoying because you could easily tell that she was the favorite and they wanted her to win. She was on the bottom 3 TIMES! She also did the same thing over and over again. Humbug ha. Happy Holidays everyone!

Are long skirts okay for interviews?
Need Coffee in an IV replied to Kaede's topic in Interviews and Visits
I think that skirt is awesome and appropriate! I'm in a completely different field though. Where is the interview taking place? Will there be a lot of walking or will it be more of a sit down interview? Make sure that you are comfortable and be able to move! If I was going on an interview I would pair that skirt with gray tights, a navy/royal blue blouse, a forest green blazer/cardigan and possibly either caramel heels or black heels. Its all solid colors but they go together and I think the outfit sounds interesting. But I like getting creative with my colors and my field is a bit more loose on the formalities. -
My brother went to ODU for his undergrad and my family still lives around the area/virginia beach. Tbh I wouldn't live too close by if you can help it. The undergrads can be very noisy and there is some petty crime. Parking has been a nightmare for sometime but I'm not sure if they have fixed it. The pros is that everyone I met while visiting my brother was friendly. Also if you are passionate about sports, ODU has a lot of school pride. There are a lot of places to eat, shop, and explore. If you are into concerts the NORVA can't be beat. The tickets don't cost a lot and well known bands play there frequently. The Macarthur Mall is pretty nice as well. Virginia Beach and its boardwalk isn't too far away if you like the beach. Seafood is super awesome and if you go to Virginia Beach, go to Rubys. Its amazing. There are also museums and an aquarium nearby. Overall, Norfolk is fine if you like a city environment and beaches aren't too far away. I'm more of a mountain girl so I won't settle back after grad school. Traffic in general is awful but the people are ok/friendly for the most part. Hope I helped!

@MarineBluePsy Yeah and while my mom would never say anything I know I don't want to take advantage of her kindness. She really is a great mom. Honestly it seems like miscommunication and egos are influencing this spat between your professors. Honestly you are handling this with a lot of grace and dignity. I'm like admiring you right now ha.

@MarineBluePsy Ouch that sounds awful! I'm so sorry you are being treated like this. Its not even you asking for "life to be fair". All you are asking is to be treated with respect and decency. I could but I'll be adopting the cat and I don't know if its necessarily in the best interest of the cat to drag it around to new places. Plus I would be crashing at my moms place since it will save money and that puts my mom in an awkward position. But if I get the internship, I'll adopt the cat afterwards. I'll know the decision by mid-February and I don't even move in to my new place till May.
