I did! I think it was worth it even though I'm not sure if it helped much. It helped me manage my expectations too. For instance, one POI from boulder seem really interested while the other one thought I needed work experience before coming to their program. So after that encounter I knew I had a very slim chance of acceptance. But the times I did have a nice rapport, I was accepted to that school.

soooo plot twist, vic got offered another job within the same department. But this second job is a soil technician job and its exactly what he wanted. It pays better, has a better location, and he will gain experience so he could become a professional geologist. He was head hunted, he asked whether this would cause problems concerning the first job. He was told it was fine and the hiring woman would talk to mary. Sooo they were on first name basis! Its 7 hours away though so instead of every weekend, we will visit maybe twice a month. But we are super excited. I found a couple of apartment complexes that I would like to live in so we are trying to settle everything. Going to talk to the landlord to see if we can convert it to a 6 month lease. I don't need a big house and I want to live in a gated community/nice apartment. Plus I can get a cat! I found the perfect cat too. @Effloresce sounds like me! I love unpacking everything when I move in. It drives me nuts otherwise. But it takes me two weeks to unpack a suitcase. @hippyscientist I hope you enjoyed your birthday! @jlt646 I'm not a huge hiker but that sounds fun/scary! You weren't afraid of being struck by lightening?

The GRE sucks, but so does every standardize test. If you bomb a section, thats ok! You can either retake it or not. I got into grad school with a very sad quant score. And I also want to say good luck/welcome!

@Neist Ah ok thanks for the explanation! Sounds interesting to visit. I might not be their target audience though. If I already made the commitment to put on pants I want my groceries to be at the store. @pterosaur Never had german chocolate, but i've heard its good. My old norwegian friend had me try their chocolate and it was good/fruity tasting. Thats awesome your friend is willing to go to target for you! Good friends are hard to find sometimes.

Yeah its for a masters and each class is 3 credits. My schedule is Tuesday-Thursday 8:15-11:50 and Wednesday/Friday 10:30-11:50. Its a terminal masters degree. I've received fellowships that don't require any work. Yeah he is the smarter one between the two of us! I guess I just got so used to having a job. I've built up my savings so there's no pressure at least.

Target is kinda meh to me. I'll go if someone else wants to but I usually shop at walmart since its cheaper. Now TJMax is my jam and I love that place. @sjoh197 I'm sure the cats will get over it soon, like 5 years? And I'm debating whether I should get a part-time on campus library job. I'm taking 9 credits and they all end at 12 in the afternoon. Bf says I should wait to see how my classes go first. He's right but I like having a job/not having to rely on my parents. Plus it will keep me busy/not be lonely since bf will be couple hours away. But I don't want to get too overwhelm. What do you guys think?

Ah that is kinda weird, maybe they were showing people apartments? I've known several complexes that lock up their leasing office if only one person is on duty. Hopefully the humidity wasn't too bad. Thats one thing I don't miss about the east! And good news is that you just missed festival season, that would make traffic a nightmare!

@Pink Fuzzy Bunny He's going to be working in a government office that deals with soil and making sure farmers have the right permits, the soil is still good, etc. It will give him an idea whether he would like to be in the office side of things or be part of the soil technician side. Its what he wants and the benefits/lifestyle will be great. Money is ok but we live a low cost lifestyle! We are super excited. Thanks!

lol that sounds like something that would happen to us. Its a tentative job offer so he doesn't want people to know until its an official offer. But its a background check and filling out paperwork. Its 3 hours away so we will be long distance boo. But we will be able to visit each other a lot/over weekends.

Thats so cute! Urg I really wish I could have a pet. Hopefully the move goes ok. My parents just left, they visit for the weekend. We weren't that great at hosting since we had no idea what to do around here ha. But I brought them to the museum I was interning at. Poor bf got sick at the end of it. I also got to see the texas tech museum and I'm in love. Its so beautiful, I'll need two weeks to soak it all in! I know what classes I'm taking but I can't register, I don't have the "permits" so they have to do it for me. So thats annoying.

@MarineBluePsy Nope the only thing that has changed is where I'm living now. Back in radford, I didn't have any problems. @sjoh197 I moved from raford VA to Lubbock. It was pretty humid back in radford. Now its very dry and extremely dusty. I was hoping they would die in the fall. Good news is that I found the perfect apartment so if my bf moves long distance I would feel safe/comfortable there. We are planning on moving there when our lease ends. Need to get a 2nd floor though!

Honestly I would go after the elective course. You are just getting started and it will be easier to know how much of a learning curve you will have. Do you need to take an elective for your program? My program requires to take some electives. But I'm also risk averse, so that influences my advice too. I'm also starting grad school so I don't know how much help I'll be. Haven't signed up for my classes yet, have to wait for orientation. Good luck!

I'm sorry about the panic attacks, thats awful! Sooo apparently I'm allergic to Texas ha. Or at least its climate/bugs. We have this pretty yard but its so hot here (100s), but it does get cooler at night. But then the bugs come out and eat me. Sigh, if only I had a giant plastic ball I can stay in.

@Neist That's something we can agree on! I like to avoid working with friends unless I know that we have similar work ethics. Some people just don't care, and thats fine for them. But I view my work as an extension of my reputation and I care about that very much. I've lost some friends over this and it makes me sad. They let me down at work and took advantage of me. I usually just give one chance and thats it.

Something very similar happened to my boyfriend. He felt tricked by his program and he shortly left afterwards. If you choose that, I wanted to let you know that you aren't alone! He thought his research was going to be one thing/take certain classes but when he got there it was exactly the opposite. His advisor didn't tell him that he wouldn't be able to take classes or do certain projects. He wouldn't have gone if he knew all of that. He felt like it was a huge waste of time. @Danger_Zone Work dorks unite! I had to check a certain webpage to find the calendar, you would think they wouldn't hide the workshops ha. Hopefully you find awesome ones. I only need to go to 3 but I saw 7 I wanted to go too.
-
There's a workshop about grants and i already marked it in my calendar! I marked all the workshops that I want to go to, my boyfriend calls me a work dork ha! They all just seem interesting. @Neist Yeahhhhhh group work is the worst. Most of my group work I was able to pick my team. Except when the project was worth half our grade (had to write a research paper on our assigned area and make a geologic map)......A sick joke by my prof ha. Luckily I and my other teammate were able to get everything done. Our 3rd teammate, not so much. He didn't do any work and tried to "borrow" my field notes, that wasn't happening!

Hey kumapanda! What do you want to know? Just everything in general or do you have specific questions? I really appreciate speech pathologists, i went to speech therapy for seven years. Let me know how I can help!
