  1. You've received some great responses here already, but I'll put in my 2 cents as well for you. For me, I made sure I had at least the GPA and GRE scores that the schools I was applying to said were the averages of the applicants they accepted in recent years. If I didn't get in, it wouldn't be due to my scores. Have multiple people whose opinions you value proofread your essay. You don't have to make all the changes, just the ones you like. Suit your essay to the general desires of the schools to which you are applying. Many schools mentioned diversity, leadership, and integrity in their mission statements and other promotional materials. So, my personal statement was focused on how I fit their goals and ideals. Also... try to sound confident, but not arrogant (this is why you want the peer proofreads).
  2. Hey guys!! I just wanted to share my excitement. I have applied to 5 schools and have been accepted to 4 so far. I haven't heard from the 5th yet (UMT). I'll be making my decision this weekend and open up some spots for those of you on the waitlists. Congrats to everyone who was accepted and to those who get off the waitlist soon! Yay!
  3. I also had trouble communicating with UMT. When I applied to take a few of their postbacc classes, they didn't respond. About a month later, I emailed again to ask if I was accepted yet. I was told they didn't receive my application so I forwarded the email I had already sent and was told about 2 days later that I could enroll in classes. So... it seems like the people running the program (or maybe their assistants) aren't very good at communication. However, after taking 2 of these postbacc classes, I have noticed that the professors are on top of it. They are great actually! I wish I had taken more of my postbacc classes from UMT. They really try to give you a well-rounded education, so that you not only know the material but how to apply it. So, I think we shouldn't judge them based on how the people who aren't educators are doing. They really need to fix their communication problems though. I have also applied for their graduate program and have not heard back yet.
  4. The schools should have their prerequisites listed on their website and if they don't, you should email them to ask because every school has slightly different requirements. I don't know Utah's specifically, but in general, most schools will require what southernspeechie listed, with a minor change: you can take chemistry OR physics. Basically, you need the SLP courses that the individual program requires AND you need to take these courses for all programs as an ASHA requirement: Biology Physics or Chemistry Statistics Psychology and at least one other social/behavioral sciences (like sociology, anthropology, or public health) and consider taking Human Anatomy & Physiology to make your application look even better See Standard IV information on the ASHA website (http://www.asha.org/Certification/2014-Speech-Language-Pathology-Certification-Standards/)
  5. Just wanted to share... I applied for Univ. of Arkansas, Univ. of Arkansas Medical Sciences, and Missouri State Univ. I just got accepted to UAMS last week, no interview, and I haven't heard back from the others yet. Any more news about applications to those good ole southern schools?
  6. TalkItOut_9, thank you sooooo much for including those dates in your signature line. I know this is an old thread, but I am getting anxious already and wanted to have an idea of a normal range of dates for when I'd hear back.

  8. Ok, so I thought I would update just in case anyone else runs across this issue. They finally got back to me to clarify. Yes, I had to submit my physical transcripts from my study abroad. I sent in transcripts from all of the colleges attended to CSDCAS.
  9. I have am just about to finish up my post-bac from University of Alaska. It's a good program. Classes are in semesters, online, about $750 each, and scheduled once a week 4:30-7:00pm AK time. If you take all the classes, it counts as an SLP minor now. They don't have everything you need for most schools though, so I have just enrolled in 3 classes from University of Montana as well. These are more expensive, about $950, have different semester schedules, and are asynchronous. I think both programs take about 2 years. Best of luck!
  10. Has anyone been able to figure out if you should include your study abroad work on your undergrad transcript or as a foreign institution? The FAQ section on CSDCAS says: "Did you study at any of the schools on our Overseas U.S. Institutions List? Report the school from the list and list your coursework under the Overseas school and during the transcript review process you would mark these courses as “Study Abroad.” A transcript sent to CSDCAS directly from the Overseas U.S. Institution is REQUIRED." AND... "If your FULL CREDITS AND GRADES for these courses appear on your undergraduate transcript, then you should list these courses normally with the rest of your undergraduate work. During the transcript review process you would mark these courses as “Study Abroad.” No additional documentation is necessary. Do NOT report your study abroad school as a foreign institution." Um.... what if BOTH apply? Do I count it as a separate school or not?!? I asked CSDCAS customer service... they said: "You would need to report John Cabot U. and have that transcript mailed to CSDCAS. You would also need to list "Fulbright Col of Arts & Sci" as a foreign institution. You would not be able to report those courses in your application because they're appearing as "foreign," and we would not accept a foreign transcript for this school." Well, that doesn't make sense because Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences was the "college" for my major at the University of Arkansas. That's not "foreign." You know, like a health, education, or business school (basically department). Has anyone else had trouble with the CSDCAS customer service not having a clue what they are talking about and advising people to do?? So, I ordered the $30 transcript from Italy that will probably never arrive because none of the postcards I sent ever did! I still don't know if this is right though.
