  1. The 11th of what month? It looks like they've gotten into responding to those looking to enter the two year program! congrats!!! If I were to attend, I would be entering the health/mental health track as well.
  2. Has anyone else heard anything? I've been checking my mail like a crazy person but I might totally be jumping the gun thinking they may have send out some decisions yet.
  3. I would have to say my top choice is Smith College. Their program is just set up unlike any other program I have ever seen. I love the idea of having class over the summer and doing my field placement somewhere else in the country full time during the year. Also, they offer such a wide range of amazing and applicable classes. I should hear back from them within the next two weeks, and I can hardly wait.
  4. Oh man I'm going to be checking my email like a crazy person now. My application was complete on December 20th! congratulations again, though. Do you think you'll be attending?
  5. Oh yeah, that's definitely true. It only makes sense if it's basically your first choice, which it is for me. I just recieved my financial package from Simmons, and I'm just trying to figure out how anybody pays for these programs plus the cost of living ?
  6. Oh wow congrats!!! When was your application submitted? And how did they notify you?
  7. Hah, spoke to soon! I still haven't gotten the letter in the mail, but I got an email in the middle of the night last night saying "Confratulations on your acceptance to the Simmons College School of Social work" so that's super exciting!!! still waiting on some info about funding. I hope that'll be included in the mailed letter!!
  8. I visited a little over a year ago and fell in love with the area as well! The people were so friendly. It really shocked me too. Im a big travel buff, so my only qualm with attending in Boston is that I think I eventually want to settle there long term, so I may want to attend in a different area first to really experience other places before settling. That's one of the reasons Smith appeals to me so much. Honestly, though, when I picture myself in grad school the setting tends to be Boston. I guess I'll just have to see what happens! I wish you the best of luck! What specific schools did you apply to?
  9. Honestly though. I've been checking like a maniac every day since then even knowing there's virtually no way it'll be there ? I recieved the email at 1 I the morning, too. So technically on a Saturday morning. Pretty bizarre.
  10. My application to Simmons was finished on December 20th, and I got an email on Friday the 13th that they made a decision and mailed it. I haven't received it yet, though. When was yours submitted exactly? You may want to reach out to them depending on when it was
  11. Hey everyone! I've seen a whole bunch of area and school specific posts and decided to go ahead and start one for Boston so we can all keep each other updated. I applied to Simmons, Boston College and Smith (which is a ways outside of Boston but I figured I'd give it a mention anyway). Simmons sent me an email that they made a decision and placed it in the mail on Friday. All of this waiting is driving me nuts!
  12. I applied to BC and SImmons as well! I would also be relocating if I accept an offer from a Boston area school.
  13. My last supplemental material was submitted on December 20th and I've gotten an email saying that the application is officially under review! I'm super anxious to hear back. Congratulations on your acceptance!
  14. I'm applying here, but didn't make the December 1st deadline. UChicago is actually the only school I haven't finished the application for yet. I had to write a few different Personal Statements and once I finished those its been harder for me to find the motivation to finish the one for Uchicago. I'll definitely make the next deadline though!
  15. Have you found any good external schlarships or fellowships? I've been having so much trouble finding any!
  16. How did funding work for SImmons? I got an email that they received my FAFSA, but they requested another form. They included the link in the email, but it didn't work. Are you familiar with this form? BC has a similar form that it requests, but the only one currently online was for the 2016-2017 year... I figure I'll just keep checking back.
  17. I've always figured I would look into working in an Americorps Public Allies program. Check it out, it's pretty relevant to our field because you are basically placed in a non-profit for 10 months and working for a stipend. http://www.publicallies.org/site/c.liKUL3PNLvF/b.2775815/k.20E5/BE_AN_ALLY.htm
  18. Anybody else applying to Smith? I just finished my first draft of the essay. The questions are so specific, I really hope I answered them fully.
  19. May I ask, what schools in large cities did you find that were around 20k?
  20. I'm applying to BC and Simmons as well! Waiting on the BC application to open, though. I'm also applying to University of Chicago, Loyola and Smith. Smith probably being my top choice.
  21. Would anyone who has been accepted as an out of state student mind sharing the funding that UIC offered? I am interested in applying at UIC (next application season) but I am from out of state, and worry that it would be a waste of time considering that I would not get the cheaper in-state tuition price, and since its public the school may not be able to offer me much funding compared to a private school.
  22. Congrats on UChicago! Do you mind if i ask what type of prior experience you had in the field before applying, and how much of it? I'm also trying to figure out just what exactly I should be trying to get on my resume in the months before I start filling out applications
  23. Hey everyone! I am wondering if anyone has any info on the aid that university of Chicago and UIC gives out on average? Uchicago's program is so appealing, it seems just perfect. However, all I ever seem to read about is how absurd the price tag is. It says on their website that 95% of admitted students are offered aid, but I wonder what that entails? Is it even worth applying? I hope someone can shed some light on this for me! On another hand, I know UIC is highly regarded, and is also known to be cheaper. However, I would be applying as an out of state student. As far as I can tell, it seems that private schools are a better but for us out of state applicants because they have more money to offer. I am going to be starting the application process to MSW programs in fall 2016, for fall 2017. My list of schools I'm interested in has ballooned to about 8, which I think I should be able to cut down. I want to knock one of these two off of my list, as I'm starting to think they are kind of just pipe dreams in terms of finances. Can any of you share your experiences with either of these schools?
  24. Thank you so much! I think I will start volunteering at a crisis intervention center soon. Hopefully thatll give me some good stuff to work with!
