I went and visited before they made offers and they told me I was on a "shortlist" for potential candidates and they were making decisions the following week. My friend who is a current grad student there told me later that they made offers (2 total in Sculpture) and those people have until April to accept or decline before they more through the aforementioned shortlist.

Has anyone heard from GSU Studio Arts? I know a few of the successful candidates have been contacted, so I have been expecting a rejection letter for weeks now. Should I abandon hope and assume my application travelled into a blackhole?

Just know you aren't alone with these feelings. I can really relate. All we can do is keep on going. There's so many people on this forum who applied for multiple years before getting in this year. We are learning from every application cycle and we will get it eventually if we preservere.
    At least, I hope so!

this was my first time applying. I've only officially heard from 2 but already decided I'll just apply next year. as far as what to do with my life, I'd already been a working artist before this...really institutional validation is nice but I'm not holding my breath. Art is supposed to be a space of fun and freedom and community and panels don't have the right or ability to deny that to you.
honestly, I was really depressed when the rejections started happening. I started to question my portfolio, the ideas behind my work, whether I was wasting my time doing detailed oil paintings. rejection confirmed all my worst insecurities. what's been making me feel better is spending time in my studio, being part of an upcoming group show and the planning/distraction behind it, and time.

I'm no expert. I've talked about this a lot with my mentors. And I've attended and left a graduate program because my needs weren't being met. Ultimately it doesn't matter where you go to school. the work matters. The school matters in the sense that you want to be around people that match your energy and intellectual hunger. Your peers matter. The community matters. Sexy schools can give a little bump and a lot of rigorous and invested students and faculty can end up there, but there are some less sexy programs that are just as good.  For me graduate school is a means to find comrades and mentors. It is a space to work hard and take risks. It's expensive. There isn't one right answer to this. It depends on what a person wants. Go to with your gut or go with the sexiest school. You will be fine either way.

It was easy for me to enter this with high hopes, but I'm coming to terms with having to wait. I think it'll be good in the long run. Now I'm thinking about going for residencies, but I don't know much about applying to those. Another intimidating thing!

Im used to it.  Took me two years to get into my undergrad.  Waiting is pretty normal in my life.  Oh well, Ill continue making money/working and maybe next year will be a better opportunity for me.  No sweat, Grad School isnt the endall.

    hey thanks Relm.
i got this from the U Iowa this morning:
"It has been recently decided that we will not be accepting any incoming graduate student to the Intermedia discipline this year.  If you are still interested in our program perhaps you would like to apply next year."
bad news for anyone else in intermedia, good news for others?

Just had my UChicago interview--which I think went fairly well aside from them being squeamish about answering, what I thought, was a fairly general question about what they find compelling in contemporary art right now...it turned out that it was too personal of a question for some of them to answer? I honestly hadn't thought of it that way and felt pretty uncomfortable/embarrassed about it afterwards. Other than that, it was good. The grad student that was there was really nice too.
I'll just make sure to mark that off my list of things to ask. haha.

Adobe Suite, coding skills and web design are skills you should be able to learn through your community college - I would not recommend art/design graduate schools if these are the skills you wish to acquire.  Have you looked at codeacademy.com?  There are many free resources online that allow you to learn these things from your home, often for free.
If your primary goal is job placement, I'd put your efforts to upgrading your computer and getting software so that you can perform the work you're looking to do.  There are many opportunities for freelance graphic design and web design jobs, many of which can be done from the home.  Once you've got a little bit of experience, it will be easier to move onto bigger jobs or higher education.

Rejected from Rutgers -- kind of bummed about it but so it goes
Still haven't heard back from VCU, UT Austin or Columbia -- from what I know the interview process have started and I've got my fingers crossed.  Every time I get an out of area number I hope its them
