  1. Yeah, you hit the nail on the head! That's exactly what I meant. I didn't choose concise words. That's really interesting to me. It kinda sucks because not everyone has the opportunity to go to brand name schools or maybe a brand name didn't fit what they were looking for in a UG university. Not saying it's necessarily an unfair advantage, it's just a privilege not accessible to everyone, in my opinion.
  2. Good point, that's what I was getting at but said the inverse.
  3. I can see that. I think student affairs is a little more accessible being that it's a field that (I think) appreciates diversity more and you can get years of student affairs experience at pretty much any university. I would think UG institution matters more in research based degrees. I have nothing to back that up, simply just starting what I think would be an interesting discussion.
  4. Would anyone say having your bachelor's from an unknown university gives your application (specifically your GPA, LoR, and research experience of course) less weight?
  5. I'd like to blog! I feel as if there isn't much about my intended field of study, unfortunately.
  6. That's how I feel in the Student Affairs thread! I feel like I'm the only one that applied to less than 4 schools. Hopefully it works out! If not, I've been provided a great list of schools to look into for next year
  7. Not speaking from any type of experience besides being a good dresser Haha but I think that looks fine! Not too dressy, not too casual. It looks like you're put together but not over doing it. I'd recommend it.
  8. Sorry to ask a question that's already been answered but thanks for posting the answer here.
  9. That makes sense. Do you think not waiving that right matters much?
  10. Anyone ever heard of someone being rejected due to not waiving right to see LoR?
  11. I mean this is just my opinion but it kinda does sound like you're valuing your own time over the professor's which could be a source of irritation. But at this point, what's been said has been said and there's nothing you can do about it but try to make up for it as respectfully as possible.
  12. I only applied to one place. I could probably be a strong contender at other schools but the one I applied to I think would be the best fit for me and it was really the only place I got excited envisioning myself at. (Among other reasons such as school qualities)
  13. I'd tell myself to apply to more than one program and compromise on the location a bit.
  14. Ah, okay. My mistake, wasn't trying to be offensive or anything. I'm just interested in schools that are lgbt friendly being transgender and wanting to work in student affairs.
  15. Welcome! Here's the link - http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php It's the page where people can read and submit their acceptances, denials, interview invites, etc, as they're received from perspective schools.
  16. Hey guys, Judging by the results survey, interview and acceptance..and denial (but we're not gonna talk about those, right? ) emails and phone calls are starting to roll in. We would probably all like information about the programs we're waiting to hear back from but posting a response to the survey just asking other people to post their results clogs up the page. So we can use this thread for that. If you're looking for results for a particular program, post it here, instead of on the results page, and hopefully people will respond. (If you think about it, people that aren't interested in posting their results probably won't look at your request on the results page anyway because they're not interested in that)
  17. Hey guys, make sure (if you're comfortable with it) to put your admission results on the results/survey page! There's barely anything about Student Affairs on their and I'm sure it'd help out other people and future students. Rep Student Affairs! And congrats again on the Vermont invites to those of you that got them
  18. I think it'd be best to email someone from the program asking. I've seen tons of posts on here saying a late LoR is fine but I emailed a program I applied to and I was told they wouldn't even look at my application without all LoR being there on time (meaning if a letter was late, spots could fill up before they look at my app).
  19. I'd say ideally, normal 1" margins are implied. But if it fits from unnoticeably tweaking the margins slightly, no biggie
  20. I'm definitely feeling that. All of my credentials are pretty good, good letters of rec, got really positive feedback on my essay. I feel like I'll be rejected just because it's the only place I applied and getting in would be too good to be true. Guess I'll just have to wait and see (and hope and pray)
  21. The university I applied to said they wouldn't review my application until all LoRs were turned in. You might want to just contact them and ask what their policy is.
  22. If it says not to email and ask, I would assume that generalizes to all forms of communication and not call. Like they said in other posts, admins have a lot of stuff to do and this school specifically said not to contact them...
